Man does she look beautiful! Looks like it was a pretty dress. Wish I could see the bigger picture but registering appears to entail a fee. Maybe we'll get some good free pic's on Slayage or Buffy News eventually.

Safe, and newly coiffed! Spent all day Saturday getting my hair cut and dyed (black/purple); one of my coworkers says I now look like Shirley Temple's evil twin. With that description I now picture you looking like Lindsey with purple and black hair

Smallville is good. Season 1 is good and probably worth the money, if you're into those things. I'm a long-time comic book fan, and I like seeing their take on his origins. But good writing. Thanks. I'll probably get it. I'm a fan of all superheroes and of things strange. Fan of the original Star Trek when it was originally on tv. When I see it now, I can't believe how simple the sets were as compared to what we see now.

Hi-ho, everyone. I've been catching up...Man, you guys move way too fast for me! Posting and posting and posting...And I've only been in the MAIN board here, and on Part 51 and 52...Don't any of you guys sleep/eat/have jobs/families/take showers? OK, I know you at LEAST take time out to watch the eps, but...sheesh!
So the many threads on Spoik's accent have been fascinating and illuminating. I'm a word nerd and studied linguistics in the UK for a while, so I get the "north of Watford" thing as well as listening to JM's accent sort of fluctuating between believable and...not so much. I knew he wasn't English but I was amazed to find out that AD wasn't. I *live* with a Brit who didn't realize AD wasn't English!
Anyway, is the subject of DB's Irish accent just avoided around here or has it already been done to (un)death? I don't know when Spike supposedly came to the USA; as far as I know, it could be fairly recently, so that's why he still has his British accent. But I've been wondering what the excuse is for Angel having a completely American accent. I mean, he came to the US at some point maybe 100 years ago but didn't really have any interaction with anybody. Really, he *should* still sound pretty much like Doyle, fresh off the boat. Or is it that nobody can stand DB trying to keep up the Oirish so they only have him do it in the flashbacks?

Becky, I'd caption that picture "Marching with Pigeons". It's so cute.

Shanno I think everyone just accepts that Angel's accent is non-existent because DB can't pull it off, and the less he does it on screen, the better. Also, although Angel was stand-offish, we've seen in so many flashback scenes that he did interact, and indeed was exposed to American accents (hanging out with the Rat Pack, American diners, hotels, etc.).

With Rob deciding to log on less and less, Josh's absence (I assume due to school), and Dave taking leave, I'm the only male who regularly signs on (Vlad seems more administrative these days). Can that be right? How ackward do I feel right now. (Feelings of insecurity in manhood rising....)

Besides, I'd think you'd like having your own private harem. ;D

Shanno I'm no Angel expert, but was it a case of his back story (Irish orgins) being developed after the character was already introduced and established as having an American accent? My initial response was to say Joss probably told him not to bother with "Oirish" accent because it was so....how do I say this without giving offense...., not good. But then he let JL speak in that so *not good* Cockney accent so that couldn't have been it. It's a credit to JM that his character is so adored and he is so greatly admired on the other side of the pond despite his inconsistent credibility on the accent.

I have to wonder if some of the inconsistency of Spike's accent in Just Rewards was on purpose to emphasize his confusion. We know William's accent was very different than Spike's, since Spike was a new personality that William created after being turned.

For those wondering, my job does, in fact, blow. Anyhoo, I got in this morning and logged in and was preparing to catch up on some posts when all of a sudden we had an emergency "pow-wow" (read: bitch session) about our most upcoming trial. The partners like to call these meetings "pow-wows" (I've told you they're stupid dorks) when really it's a time for them to rant and yell at us about the upcoming trial and how we are so woefully unprepared, it's not even funny. It's the same song and dance before every stupid trial. So, long rant short (HA! yeah right, you say), I'm back and NOW I can catch up on what I've missed this morning. I hope everyone is having a great day so far!! BECKY - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! [glow=yellow,2,300][/glow]

Can that be right? How ackward do I feel right now. (Feelings of insecurity in manhood rising....) Okay: Let's NOT have any insecurities about your manhood, ok? You are the only male on board today, surrounded by all these wonderful, beautiful, charming, funny (and fun), intelligent, and VERY modest women. So: you're COMPLAINING? !!!!! John, I KNOW you are not complaining..... AND: to Shanno: In response to your questions: 1. " Don't any of you guys sleep/eat/have jobs/families/take showers? " The answer is: sometimes we leave the board, but essentially we are here all the time. This IS our other home! 2. I think JM needs ASH to keep his accent relatively steady. Just Rewards' accent was "off" from what he'd been using for the last two seasons. Also, the writer (I don't think it was David Fury; he's written for Spike before. I think it was probably Ben Edlund (spell?) ) used dialogue for Spike that was just a little "off" as well. Although the gag lines (and there were many) were pure Spike. 3. DB's Irish accent is so bad they should have either hired another actor to play Angel or re-located Angel's story to another country! I grew up in an area where there were lots of immigrants, many of whom were from the UK, and everytime I hear DB doing a brogue, I just cringe! At the same time, every now and then I hear a little "lilt", and I wonder where THAT comes from. And, I'm off to work, my class is in another building, 10 minutes away, in 5 minutes. Crikey!

My job stinks too, but I can at least take comfort in the fact that I didn't go to school for years and years to qualify for it--plus, I'm a lot closer to retirement age than you are, Lee. Wait, I'm not so sure that's good thing.

I have to wonder if some of the inconsistency of Spike's accent in Just Rewards was on purpose to emphasize his confusion. We know William's accent was very different than Spike's, since Spike was a new personality that William created after being turned. But I'm not referring to just "Just Rewards", but to Spike over all, through the seasons. See Shanno's and Sarah's posts on the subject on this and the last thread. I had requested an English perspective about the authenticity of Spike's accent and both of them have posted valuable feedback.
