Nope, Rusty, haven't heard a thing further about the Las Vegas con, and supposedly I'm invited. So I think they'd tell me if anything were different.
However, the location is all I DO know: not the date, not the hotel, not anything else. So I have the feeling that it's still all being cobbled together.

Okay, I just answered this on the other thread with links and stuff and got locked out. Grrrr... So here goes again. The con sounds like a definite go. July 29-August 1 in Las Vegas. A hotel has been chosen (The Imperial Palace: www.imperialpalace.com/), and 100 rooms reserved. The contract with the hotel should be signed this week. Room price is $62 per night. Registration should be about $60 and includes several meals. All subject to change and to my extremely short memory. Here are a couple of URLs you can check out: www.livejournal.com/users/writercon www.the-sandlot.com/writercon/There is also a Yahoo Group set up for updates straight to your mailbox. I imagine the sign up for that can be found at one of the above. Are you going, Rusty? Because I think I will. Nan, I know, has been invited. Anyone else here thinking of it? Rob? Might be lots of women... if that sort of think interests you! *snort*Or, um, er, ANY of you... ;D Rusty, I haven't checked out the writer's group yet. Your description sounded a little scary to me (!!) so I'll have to think about it a little more - but I WILL go take a look. Thanks so much for filling me in on it. Nan - I forgot to mention... Have you seen the new Tarzan? I haven't been particularly impressed yet, but the show seems to have some overtones of B & tB, so I thought I'd mention it. Probably won't turn out to be anything like it, but it was kind of an early impression. Mary

As long as it doesn't conflict with S'cubiefest '04 I'd probably want to so it. Money is a big issue, of course. It's a thought, though.

It's a thought, though. I totally hear you, Rob. Money is ALWAYS an issue. I think there will be a place online to sign up for roommates so that could cut back on the hotel cost. I mentioned to Spring that these were the dates of this con - or at least I THINK I mentioned them to her - so I hope Scubiefest won't be the same weekend. Mary

The viewers who reported were rather drooling over this underwear model's physique (naming no names, of course), and I got the impression that was all there was on offer. Abs and thighs alone do not do it for me, sorry. However, if there's some halfway decent writing (you're the first to imply that might be the case), I'll give it a look-see if I remember. Nothing else I watch on Sundays anyway. I doubt there's any S'cubie who has the TV off as much as I do. I'd rather write, read, almost anything than watch TV. Ms. Peculiar here, I know.

Mary, Maybe they are just drawing it out so none of their fans are disappointe. (Yeah, that's it.) Hey Nan and Shanno! Whoa, three very verbal ladies (and me). It's it the middle of the night in England? Shanno--do you read fanfic? Are you aware that Nan and Mary write some of the best fanfic available? Plus Rob and several other S'cubies, but Nan and Mary are on at the moment. My older daughter is going to London to visit a friend at Oxford in about 10 days. It's her first trip overseas. Any advice? Sue

The only other time the TV is on is when 6yo son is watching Saturday morning cartoons or when he or his 2yo sister watches a DVD borrowed from the library. Last week, it was "Wizard of Oz" and this week it's "Toy Story 2." The rest of the time, it's books or NPR for all of us. My son is in 2nd grade but he's supposed to be in 1st grade and even so, his teacher says he reads at 4th grade level. I don't think my son's a particular kind of genius or anything (mind, he's not slow ) so it makes me wonder about the standard of public education in the country and what TV's done to it. Shanno (jumping off the soapbox now)

Glad to help out with the con details, Nan. Get on that yahoo list - it will be a big help. As for Tarzan - can't say the writing has thrilled me yet, but to be fair, I was only listening with half an ear. I can't quite put my finger on what made me think of B & tB, but for some reason I felt like the story might unfold with similarities. The star IS droolworthy, but very Brad Pitt, a star I know doesn't cause you to salivate. The female lead, IMHO, looks too old for him, and is kinda cross-eyed. The 'instant' attraction he feels for her came across almost as being based on her being the first female he'd ever seen. It was weird. I do love how he 'scents' her though, which I find very erotic. The fight scenes, however, are wonderful. I don't know who designed the fighting style for Tarzan, but it strikes me as VERY animalistic, and therefore, very believable. I was EXTREMELY impressed by them. (Wish I could WRITE a believable fight scene - grrrrr.) Mary

Well, this year I'm watching Angel, which means I watch a total of, let's see... ONE show. Angel. That's not entirely true. I like biography and Poirot, and every once in a while I take a look at something else. But, like you Nan, I'd rather read or write. Or, um, watch football. I LOVE that! Mary

When I'm having computers problems I go into a complete panic that all my backups aren't in working order! How old is your daughter? I still hope to get to Europe someday. I've never been. Mary
