Oh, and I just checked at Slayage.com, and they've fixed the URL of the review. It's correct now. So we may be getting some traffic on that account today. Despite the wrong URL, ours is STILL the only review of Hellbound listed. So were were still first. Good, usually weekends are so (posting) slow, maybe we'll get some action on the review thread.

The site advertising the book has a "play matchmaker for Buffy quiz". It's only 6 questions. My answers resulted in the following:
"Your answers condemn Buffy to a long life of hopefess lonliness. Way to go."

I'm pretty sure it was John who first suggested that Harmony might be the key to soul issue because she is resistin blood and killing. Then we all took that ball and ran with it. I think Spring might have mentioned Harmoney Shanshuing first (but not completely sure) and Diane had the funny comment that Harmony would probably get it by falling and tripping over it. Such fun! If she did Shanshu, it would be an awful way to kind of satisfy both Angel and Spike camps. Here's the original exchange: AND TO PROVE TO EVERYONE HOW OBSESSIVE I CAN BE, HERE'S SPRING'S ORIGINAL EARTHSHATTERING THOUGHT:

Here are a few quotes from the essays: <snip> “For all the beauty and wonder of Buffy the Vampire Slayer though, branding itself into our culture and collective hearts, I have noticed one disturbing trend in the series: the emasculation of the male characters. I have a theory about this. My belief is that Buffy is, in fact, her own special breed of vampire. Whereas traditional vampires suck the blood from their victims, Buffy drains the testosterone from the characters she is involved with—this appears to be the true source of the Slayer’s power.” -- Sherrilyn Kenyon, The Search For Spike’s Balls <snip>.
Disturbing? What's so disturbing? You gotta love that Buffy. What's not to love? Sorry - I think this author was just looking for an excuse to search for Spike's balls.

It worries me sometimes that I still believe in B/S, given the dysfunction in S6. On the other hand, B/S in the last half of S7 was sublime. They forgave each other and relied on one another in a healthy way. It bothered me when Giles said "You rely on him, he relies on you." like it was a bad thing. I thought, isn't that what people do?
That was an all around nice post, LadyDi, but I wanted to comment on the above:
I don't think you should worry about yourself for believing in B/S despite the dysfunction of Season 6. If couples didn't hang in there past dysfunctional periods, no one would ever stay together, and the two of them were showing nice recovery.
I hold no hope out for B/S though - not based on the dysfunction of Season 6, but based on the fact that I don't think Joss has things set up that way (I really thought the message of "Chosen" was that Buffy is moving on and away from both her vamp-loves) and that SMG isn't going to be coming back for any significant length of time.
GILES: I think, when he said that thing about "relying" on each other, he was disapproving based on the fact that he thought the continuining emotional connection was clouding and diminishing Buffy's Slayer-judgment, just when clarity was needed the most. He was wrong about this, but it was easy to see why it might worry him - both logically and emotionally. Buffy loved Spike a lot by the end of Season 7, and Giles could see that. As Buffy's "father," it worried him. As a long-time evil fighter in the fight of his life, it also worried him.

Spring, There were a good number of quotes, but I specifically included that one because I knew...I knew, I knew, I knew that it would provoke a response from you!

Buffy could pull him out of his funk and give him more lines on the Angel if she were to appear at some point.

Well put, although put in RL terms I think the period of "separation" between seasons 6 and 7 where (looked at in a strange way) Buffy and Spike both got individual "therapy" (Buffy mending ties with Dawn et al and deciding to "live again"; Spike getting his soul) for their problems was also a necessity.

Buffy could pull him out of his funk and give him more lines on the Angel if she were to appear at some point. Given the number of questions and the possible number of responses to each there are only a total of 96 possible combinations of reponses. I wonder if there are 96 different outcomes. Hmmm--we DO get an extra hour today...... EDIT: Based on a very small random survey I got Wesley twice, Riley once, Angel once, Willow once, and a whole bunch of condeming Buffy to a lonely future.

Hi,
Although given the size of the site you might be reading anywhere but here. We have a number of posters from your area of the country.
Hope you'll post when you get comfortable.

Clearly the rest of you are making better use of your Saturday morning than I. I need to go set a good example for the kid (but she's not up yet so...). BTW thanks for all the good thoughts for her earlier in the week. She's still hoping she never goes thru a worse week but once she got the test out of the way she settled down some emotionally. (Missing school all day Tues for the test and all day Thurs for cross country has resulted in a lot of make-up work--which is tough to do when you've missed 40% of the class time.) Anyway, the week took an upturn right at the end when she was elected to Homecoming court AND got her SAT scores back (not PSAT mind you) and was pleased.
Okay, that's not what the post title referred to.
I happened to spend some time in the Archives this morning. Not something I do much of, but it was fun. I really don't think I've ever read the "Spike's Pants" discussion which occurred even before "Part 1". I'm guessing that's another one of those threads Lee has in the "Misc" stuff which has not been posted yet.
Flipping thru the posts did make me miss Alexandra, Josh, ellie, Athene and some others.
It will most likely never happen but (this is the wishful thinking) I'd love someday to go thru and do an Index for the Archives. But even before that I hope (someday) to get into the current fanfic recommendations thread and pull together all of the rec'd sites and authors (probably not specific titles) into one overall spot. Someday....
Well, I could talk to myself for hours, but gonna go do some paperwork before the mailman comes.

Sue, I'm glad to hear about your daughter's (Allison?) good test score results (they got them already?), and election to Homecoming Court. All's right with the world when our children are happy and thriving. You are really ambitious to want to do the Archiving Index. Sometimes even now, peoples' thoughts are coming fast and heavy, I don't know how you *could* organize it. Good luck with that, if you do it. I missed most all of last year's stuff having found you all at the end of Buffy.

I missed most all of last year's stuff She took the PSAT on Tuesday (not used for much except determing National Merit Scholars--also a one time only shot the year you are a junior--that's why the big tizzy--no "do-overs."); She had already taken the SAT (used for college applications) on the 11th. Turnaround time is amazingly short due to computers and scores posted on the internet. (30 years ago it took months!). Those are the scores she got. Also, it was less stressful because it was just her first time and she definitely plans on taking them again either in the spring or next fall. We love her school, but it is an academic magnet and some of the kids are so intense in their competition.

Arrived about 3 weeks ago; it's a terrific book. Lots of wonderful insight, great stuff for weeks of discourse, all written by sci-fi and fantasy writers.
