ARGH! Must vent a moment. . . . In his first full day of office, California Governor (oh, the pain) Arnold Schwartzenegger: 1) Repealed the increase in the car tax, which goes to fund fire departments and police and 2) Proposed borrowing up to $15 billion in order to balance the state budget. Surprise, Arnie - there was no secret book to open up and reveal all the extra money. And boy do I hate it when insanely rich men in positions of power use it to give money to other rich people. GRR, ARGH. Okay, dinner now. As you were. I feel your pain, and we're going to feel much worse, real soon now. Waaaah! What good is an audit, if there's no hidden treasure to uncover, I wonder?

If any of you were at Dragoncon this year, you may remember hearing Danny Strong (Johnathon) discuss his current aspirations: DS: I?m also a writer, that?s a huge part of my life, and it?s gonna be... (Applause) Yay, yay. And to be honest with you, I?m kinda pushing in the direction of being more a writer than an actor so I think that?s more of my future. (Applause) DS: Yeah and I got a book of haikus coming out. No, "Sarah Michelle Gellar: the Lover in Me." (Laughter) What are you all laughing at? It?s a really touching story. 5, 7, 5. (Laughter) I know he was kidding, but if Danny ever put this book together, it would be probably be hysterical. He is just absolutely hilarious. So I say we dedicate all future haiku's to Danny. WendyI like it! (Do you think he'll mind that they're mostly about Spike?)

I understand it. Kind of as in 'dawn goes down to day, nothing gold can stay...' sorta...kinda. Now you're getting personal, since I personlly stole cited that poem in my fiction. In that poem, the world "gold" is set up with meaning by the lines that precede it. Here it comes all alone, with no preparation. As it's a word with multiple meanings and implications, it generally needs a particular context to make the chosen meaning explicit.

No more reviews until more BIL chapters! In fact, you are no longer allowed to do any work of any kind. Nor eat nor sleep. You may take no more than 4 bathroom breaks every day and you may sleep up to 6 hours in any 24-hour period, but not consecutively. Showering is optional and may be done as often (or not) as you like (see, not so inhumane here). Shanno p.s. My mother says "It's only work if you'd rather be doing something else..." For this I get paid...what? Chapter 12 is done and readable, incidentally (hint, hint). www.livejournal.com/users/nandibble/4928.html#cutid1

I read your haiku and loved it. I've been impressed by all of the efforts people have been making. Haiku is extremely difficult not only because of its 5-7-5 (or is it 5-8-5? I've written both ways) format but because it's meant to paint a word picture. You should have something like a word snapshot in your mind from good haiku. Anybody can write couplets (my preferred format.) Limricks are harder. Haiku is rightly considered an art. I wasn't trying to be cruel on the last part, I wanted you to finish what you'd started. It didn't fail because it was bad poetry. What you had was both amusing and evocative. It failed because you gave up in the middle. I was hoping I'd made you po'd enough to go back and do it to the end. I'm very sorry if I hurt your feelings. Thanks for liking the haiku. As for the poem; that was really a joke poem more than anything. I had to stop because it was just getting more and more sexually graphic, and that's just not poetry! Well, it's dirty poetry. Believe me, it wouldn't have gotten better. I wasn't really insulted; I was just yanking your chain a little. I will admit I can be a little sensitive when it comes to my writing. I definitely can't compete with any of you guys! So don't worry, you didn't hurt my feelings. I think everyone who posts here is wonderfully witty and talented. I'm privileged to know you all. And I'm only marginally intimidated by most of you.

Nan....I SWEAR I didn't remember that til you reminded me! It's just one of my favorite poems....so very often when I hear the word 'gold' it pops into my mind.

Ok, I'm reposting the haikus that have been put in part 69 and 70 on their own little thread and if anyone gets any more bright little sneezy ideas, stick them there so we won't lose them! This done at the request of Anne D I think...and Anne, next time you can do it!
