ROBBED! and for you. The problem with my dad is that since last May, any time he pukes, it could be a one-shot because he overdid, or it could be another spasm/blockage that'll put him back in hospital. There's no way of telling, hence the . At least they're okay with helper service people now, even if it's only twice a week. They seem to be getting along well with the new lady; Jim found out she's a Kevin Kline fangirl, so they showed her the first act of Pirates of Penzance, with more to come this week. I am informed that there was squeeage. ETA: Thank you kindly, Ms Lola-Mindy.

Jim fell asleep and I was finishing a book so we "let it ride" so to speak onto the DVR. DVRs: wonderful gadget, useful. But also has totally changed the next day "watercooler discussion" approach to TV. No more "appt TV." Wonder how the whole Seinfeld and Friends phenomena of catch-phrases etc would have gone. Change---it changes things.

RACHAEL (and anyone else who has read or is reading Robert Sawyer) -- I just finished Frameshift and like it the best so far. Written in 1995 it has a ton of hard science stuff about genetics and DNA. Not sure at what point (if?) he crosses the line from proven science into fictional.
Still has more going on than strictly necessary: at least 3 plotlines related to genetics (which, admittedly, he sort of ties together at the end) but 2 additional side plots. The one about health insurance (so very timely) also ties in with genetic testing, but the does the one about Nazi hunting really add to book or distract?
Still -- the man clearly has a very active mind. And he also seems to usually include some thoughts related to the spiritual as well.
It was a good read: Frameshift by Robert Sawyer.

all the way back from Birmingham just in time 1th again now I'm going to sleep How do you DO that?? She lies in wait. Me, wanting my weekends back! I have come to the conclusion that my days as a Renfaire cast member are ending. This season is killing me. And it never seems to be enough. This time, knowing I have physical limits, they asked me to do the fireworks (where we cast members form living aisle lighting with lanterns). This entails walking halfway across the site and climbing the steepest incline there and half an hour sitting on a hard bench. As a concession, they sent me with several others who have a hard time keeping up. My "escort" was very kind and very patient, but the two newly-healed breaks in my feet were already screaming from the day's standing and walking and we will NOT discuss the state of my back. By the time the fireworks ended I could barely move and was in tears from the pain. I made it back to the entertainment building but had to sit for half an hour before attempting the walk to my camp. About 10 yards of painful limping later (and some consideration toward collapsing) one cast member came by in her van and gave me a lift. The most comfortable chair I own, and the one best suited for my back happens to be in my car. So by the time I got home I was beginning to feel better. Well, the foot (not the one with the breaks) comes down here. What pisses me off most is that another (male) cast member has physical problems quite similar to mine, but nobody asks this sh*t of him! How come his disablities are respected and mine are not? Well, no more. Not even if they fire me. I has spoken.

The second firefighter in the first picture is a ringer for my granddaughter Lan. Those women really stand in my mind as heroines. Not just for the job they did but for the condescention they had to put up with.

At the least, it's time to put your (non-broken) foot down as regards your physical limitations. It sounds like the people in charge just weren't thinking.

I actually hurt so badly I couldn't stand to be touched! More than one person tried to hug me, but every muscle was in spasm and even gentle touches hurt! Not again.
