Dave-- I am 5 by 5. As hard as I've tried a few things have slipped through and that info was part of it. But the quote was not. Still no big deal. I was just concerned that others might be upset. Sue

Sue P: "Becky,You are correct. James is very welcome here. I hope (I thought) he knows that. Now that we all know one another better it is easier to be sure that we focus on the topic under disagreement and not personal preferences. We are also more able to call one another if we feel the bounds of cordiality have been overstepped. And, in extreme cases, just agree to disagree." "Spike-thrall is not required. Just an appreciation of his character. I mean, why would you WANT to post here if you were like the guy who wrote the review that said the character of Spike ruined the show?" And let us also not forget WHY these threads were started in the first place: because some of US now-S'Cubies didn't feel welcome on the ep board making Spike-centric comments under almost any circumstances, regardless of how related we felt our comments were to the ep or not. So for us to not make someone else welcome for basically the same reason WE felt unwelcome at the ep board would be rather hypocritical on our part. So, dear James (of the same namesake as my favorite actor) - care to face me in the ring on Wood vs. Spike, 2 out of 3 falls? p.s. Regarding your thoughts on the "Nerd Alert" tributes... I can sorta identify - that's why I said what *I* did about the value of great entertainment and entertainers. The purpose isn't to necessarily solve our problems and pain of life, but perhaps at least help us to cope in different ways. Glad you're still with us. Miss Pamela

James, my experience with this board (barring a tiny misunderstanding about a man and his dog) has been a positive one, and I am most definitely not Spuffy. Those on this board are quite open to opposing viewpoints, moreso than perhaps you'll find on many of the other boards, although be prepared to face a barrage of those willing to take up the debate should you say anything inflamatory about a certian peroxide vampire with a soul. But understand -- wanting to debate you is much, much different than wanting to have you excommunicated from the board. For the most part, it's a board the boils down to mutual respect -- everyone here has our obsessions, and as long as you respect our obsessions, we'll respect yours. No one expects you to agree with their Spike-centric outlook on life, but just don't attack anyone for their Spike obsession as being stupid, etc. My obsession happens to be with a certain computer nerd turned uber-witch, by the way -- I still want my very own Alyson. But I digress. Mainly, you are welcome to challenge Spike's behavior at any point, as well as the behavior of any other character -- including Willow, though I haven't a clue why you would -- and as long as you respect the fact others might (and probably do) have a differing opinion from yours, everything is cool. But again, be prepared to have any anti-Spike arguments challenged, as well as anti-any other beloved character. Also in the mutual respect department, we have some extremely staunch anti-spoilists, which I'm finding can be the most difficult group to keep from offending. Myself and a few others have at times posted things we didn't consider to be spoilers, only to be chastized. Bottom line on that one, no spoilers, hints of spoilers, anything that can be construed as a spoiler, etc. I'm still learning that one myself. Please hang around, though. We guys are woefully outnumbered here. Although on some occassions, that's not exactly a bad thing.....

Lee - from your plans, it sounds like that cream cheese is going to come in handy.

//I know he thinks he understands slayers because his mother was one, but I don't think he could deal, at all, with coming second to the mission.// It's not uncommon for guys to want to grow up and marry their mothers, or rather, the person they meet that's as close to their mother as possible. Mom was the primary role model for us males as to what a "proper" woman should be -- the quotes are on purpose, because not every mother fulfills that role properly, but bad or good she still fills the bill in the eyes of her little boy. Hence the reason a lot of males relationships with women are screwed up -- mom messed up in her example of what a good woman is. Anyhow, Wood's mom was a slayer, and that's more than just a job. Look at how much that Buffy, Kendra and Faith have in common, deep down, much of which is born from their selection as the slayer. Number one is their sense that nothing is as important as the mission -- not their friends, not their families, not thier loves, not even themselves. That's probably not a great person to end up in a relationships with, especially if you've got mom issues. But Wood's mom was a slayer, so if he's got mom issues -- and he does -- the slayer is going to attract him in a heartbeat.

The concert--the one I had to attend with hubby! It was outside and they movied it inside and so now he doesn't want to go since we can't have a picnic and that means I can watch Buffy in real time and not on tape. (I'm going to go get a pre-toast.) Thank you PTB. I really was trying to be a good wife, and I have been rewarded. I'm going to watch FX to try to make the time pass more quickly.

I knew my feelings about this board weren't misplaced so James, please join. Reading other people's perspectives helps me better define my own whether that means to agree or disagree. Whatever relationship Buffy has had, you all have given me more food for thought. So, I admit I like Spuffy but I like Bangel, too. I'll even admit to thinking Parker was pretty cute (as an actor only - if you saw "Taken" you know what I mean). Riley showed he was at least made of corrugated cardboard instead of just that flimsy two-ply stuff. And I recognized DB Woodside from "Once and Again" and wanted to congratulate "Buffy"s casting director on yet another great find. As you can see, I'm all over the place. But if we all agreed, all the time, we'd be living in Jasmine-land. And how ultimately boring that would be.

//I believe that Joyce was an un-called Potential. // I think you may be right. Look at all that Joyce went through, with her divorce and re-establishing herself in Sunnydale, always somehow finding the money to rebuild the house after demons destroyed it, raising Buffy on her own with all the troubles Buffy put her through, and all that she went through at the end with her illness. Look how she stepped up and formed MOO -- there's a reason Hans & Greta went to her. Joyce put the mission first, ahead of herself, always. Joyce was a slayer, only without the powers, and for a long time, without the knowledge of vampires and demons in the world. There was early discussion that perhaps Dawn might be the next slayer, since she was made from Buffy (hence Buffy's ability to close the portal in her place). I don't know if slayer-ism is specifically hereditary, but I'm sure there are certain traits in a young woman that the slayer-entity seeks out, and those traits probably are hereditary. Hence Joyce and Dawn could also have been part of the slayer line, albeit never called.
