I am Re-Posting this message at the beginning of part 17, so it doesnt get lost as the very last message on Part 16. For those who have to read it twice, my apologies!
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I really really **loved** the story, ending included. what a wild ride!!
I would like to see some sort of epilogue as well, if only for Xander's sake.
I agree that there is a HUGE opportunity for a sequal here, but I see a slightly different direction.
**The moment where Spike realizes he is going to outlive all the Scubies** is so Intriguing!!!
>> [excerpt from TRUTHS] >>>>>> "You can't say we didn't get results. We kicked the everlovin' ass of whatever was put before us, finally driving back Evil itself."
"We know it's not forever, but it will be a long time before forces can be martialed again. Most likely, by that time, everyone in our group will be dead except me."
He paused a moment at that, as if he'd just realized the implications of his statement...and forged on. . . . . . . . . . .
"At some point Buffy and Faith will leave this world, and another Slayer--or Slayers, frankly I'm confused about that point--will be called. "
"When this happens, we will have made certain that this poor girl will be greeted by me, and me only." >>>>>>
I would love to see a sequal well into the future, when Buffy + gang has left their mark and established a new slayer tradition, where Spike is the oldest living "Watcher"; identifying, training, protecting, all the slayers down the line.
It would be interesting to see how 500 more years and much responsibility has changed Spike. Will he be the quintessential "Patriarch", having turned into something resembling Giles of present day, or will he be the Punk-Rock Leader of a hard-core slayer team that kicks evil ass?
Interesting.
Thanks so much Rob, for a Wonderful Story!!!!

OK guys, I have about a minute to type this out. Deposition's on a break right now and it's going...not well. You know that feeling you get when you see something you have worked really really hard on go down the tubes? Well, that's been me since about 11:00 am this morning. Basically, my case is going to hell in a handbasket and taking me along for the ride. Joy of joys! Big Bad Boss is going to be oh-so-thrilled about this.
I cannot WAIT for the new episode tonight - although I won't get to watch it until about 1:00am tonight. My roommate (God love her because sometimes I can't) told me that she noticed I forgot to set my VCR (horrors!) but that she set it for me and even put in the right tape so the episodes are continuous. This is from a girl who absolutely HATES BtVS and makes fun of me relentlessly for watching it. You can imagine her reaction when she found out I was actually writing something about BtVS - yep, laughed for days (actually, she is still laughing).
Damn!! Gotta jet - depo's about to start again (and we still have one more to do today!)
I can't wait to read all the discussions about this episode - granted, probably won't be until Thursday at the earliest and possibly not until the weekend before I can read these. Just promise not to make too much fun of me when I come into the game late and probably reiterate things people have already said, 'kay?

I finally got the tape. I probably won't be copying it until after the new Buffy episode airs, but then I'll copy the tape for Sue and send the original back to Watergal. Many thanks for the loaner.

I think Pacific time is three hours behind me: when it's 9 p there, it will be midnight Eastern Daylight Time. Does that sound right? Corrections appreciated.

You are correct, Nan. Pacific is three hours behind Eastern.
New episode in thirty minutes...I just wanted to take a moment to say thanks to all who had such nice things to say about the story.
I'll answer each person individually when I have time, though it'll probably be in a day or two after we've had time to react to tonight's events.

Hello all!
Last ep, "Lies My Parents Told Me", inspired me to write a full-blown article which I STILL haven't had time to finish or share with anyone - yet. But TONIGHT...!!!!!!
Don't read further if you haven't seen it yet and are unspoiled... - or don't want to read from one with no 'edit' button and too much in a hurry to do much editing, anyway.... . . . . . . . . . . . . NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! POOR XANDER!!!!!
Never have the Xanman been my favorite "Buffy" character - and yes, often because of his feuds with Spike and Angel - but OHMIGOD, I SCREAMED for that poor man!!! The (paraphrased) words of Joss then came to haunt me... "No one's immune...."
Can Willow do some magicks to restore his eye? I hope that hilarious pirate costume from S6 wasn't just a sad, poignant foreshadowing?
Loved his speech to the S-I-T's, of course - maybe Xander has at last not only been redeemed to me but far more than I would've asked for... God somehow speed his recovery somehow - I believe now his soul and spirit are forged even stronger than ever.just a sad, poignant foreshadowing?
Does Anya have any of her demonic powers left? I'm thinking, "could be a good way for Anya to go out with glory (no pun intended)as we know she still LOVES Xander."
This Caleb is ONE MEAN, S.O.B. - lawdy, I think he could almost give ANGELUS a run! But I "like" Angelus - this guy I just HATE with a passion. Joss & Co. may be treading a bit on the sacreligious for my tastes, but there's hopefully enough intelligent "Buffy" viewers who'll know not all who seem to be "Christian" are not just evil fakes. I'm serious - we're still an okay group to "bash" by the P.C. crowd at times.
And folks - I felt SO bad for Xander that by the end of the episode, I almost felt GUILTY for being in near disbelief and open-mouthed breathlessness at the STEAMY SPIKE SCENE in da basement with Faith! Oh, I love series' continuity! But I digress... what a roller coaster ride - maybe ME felt, in their often seemingly ironic ways, that "okay - we'll give the 'Spikeaholics' something they've been craving before we hit them with something so awful for everyone." It's happened to me in real life - hey.
And some of the S-I-T's in-residence finally bit the dust (too bad it wasn't Kennedy; I feel they're saving her for the bitter end, darn it). Was bound to happen, though - thin out the ranks.
Faith hadn't lost a step, has she? But I LIKE this Faith - still a "bad" girl at heart but now with the sense to know that being good doesn't have to mean "boring" - it can be... well - GOOD! Just like our favorite Vamp!
Overall, I thought this was a GREAT ep that had a feel of the "older" seasons to it with so much going on. Nice job they did of trying to give so many characters some screen time. Nice to see some patch-ups; there's enough conflict already admist the white hats. Nice flashback scenes; again, good continuity. And oh, thank you again, Joss, for the exquisite shots of James in the basement, all shirtless... mrrrowwww! Can't wait to see him for real soon!!
Faith hadn't lost a step, has she? But I LIKE this Faith - still a "bad" girl at heart but now with the sense to know that being good doesn't have to mean "boring" - it can be... well - GOOD! Just like our favorite Vamp!
Final thought - and I'll re-think my concern about "sacrilege" as this actually could be quite Biblical in a good way: We have (1) a false-prophet, (2) an 'anti-slayer', and (3) still probably at the bottom of it all Satan in his spirit form - much like in the prophecies of Revelations. I've read THAT Book, and IT has a happy ending; I can only hope and pray so much for our heroes of Sunnydale.
Best wishes all, Miss Pamela Linguistics Chair, VHISN

Miss P-
You may not get a lot of response to your post until a little later. There's a bit of an unspoken agreement to hold off on the new ep postings at least until after the west coast has had a chance to view (that would be 9 pm PDT, or 12 AM EST). Altho, the way you set your post up it was easily avoidable, thank you. ( I just didn't want you to think that you were just being ignored.)

Miss P, it's great to have you here again. I'm afraid I have nothing else that I can bring myself to write at the moment. Maybe tomorrow.

Yes to all you said - except no, I wasn't really expecting too many responses yet. I just wanted to get my bit off my chest while it was still fresh and before I got bogged down with 'real work' again. I did, however, make a strong conscious effort to kill two birds with an appropriate subject line, as in "Here's my thoughts on ep #18!" AND "So that means don't read it if you don't wanna know"!

Anyone else think that if Caleb had had the time he would have made Xander into a Bringer? He was really smooth with that eye-gouging movement, like he'd done it a million times before.
I'm a little bit surprised that I wasn't more like, "oooooh, Faith's back!" but I guess I experienced that already after seeing her on AtS.
Faith and Spike in the basement. Definitely hot. I always knew those two would have great chemistry. "You know all the cool vampires..." And we got to see James with his shirt off! Thank you, ME.
I still think something's up with Giles. He's too wishy washy.
I missed Anya. Hello? Where was Anya?
Things are looking bleak and next week is another freakin' repeat. But all in all, another stellar outing by Drew Goddard.

I wonder where Anya was? I don't recall even seeing her in the crowd.
I see this as a "set-up" ep. It was nice, of course to see Spike looking so great in that bed scene. I liked that Buffy was jealous and didn't really try to hide it.
And the two Xander scenes were powerful - Buffy hearing him say that stuff about her, then of course, losing his eye (!!!)and being rescued by Spike and carried out so tenderly by both Buffy & Spike(I think Caleb was planning to go for both of Xander's eyes, from what he said).
The rest was . . . well, it was set-up and exposition, and I'm sure it was needed, but I get so fidgity these days, when screen time is taken up by a new guy like Caleb, "fake Buffy" (I hate fake Buffy), SITs, Robin W, and Andrew.
Caleb was very nasty and powerful, but definitely did not seem invincible.
Miss P - so glad you are back!! I do believe that pirate scene was foreshadowing. We learned when Buffy's mom was sick that witchcraft isn't really useful in healing serious real world illness. Willow did "lift the bullet" out of Buffy, but that sounds different than re-creating an eye, and she was "evil-Willow" when she did it. She's not going back there. My guess is that Xander's eye is gone for good. But that brings up all kinds of questions about Xander's future.
There's been some other stuff this season - that "Belox's eye", and the Ubervamp losing his eye to Buffy . . . this Season has been big on the eye and "seeing" imagery. Everyone last Season blinded themselves; this Season, they have to stop that stuff to beat The First. Xander has lost his eye, but I'm betting that this sacrifice will ultimately result in "less blindness" all around.
Lots of strange words and imagery - all that wine being spilled . . . I just finished watching it because it is delayed here, so haven't had much time to contemplate.
Caleb has something that belongs to Buffy? Could it be that demonic power she turned down? I dunno.

I stayed up to discuss this wowser of an episode and now I'm too tired and zonked out to have anything to say. Serves me right.
Incidentally, I have a fiction recommend, found on the allaboutspike site: "Exquisite Corpse," by one Dirge. It's a WIP, but what's there already is substantial...and really good and really hysterically funny. It's nasty little type, hard to read, but I "selected all" and copied both parts and pasted them into Word for better visibility. At one point we have Xander in a grass skirt (you had to be there) and Spike, all bunged up, with a huge honkin' machete, taking on a malificent and all but unkillable red furry vampire slaughtering hugely scary demon about 18 feet tall. Oh, and Xander is armed with a shotgun and Spike has grenades. And they STILL almost don't make it. This isn't fluffy funny--it's sit down on the floor before you fall off your chair and embarrass yourself and need fresh underwear funny.
Xander is prominent in the tale. Might cheer even Rob, at this point.
I can talk about that, evidently. But the blatant mysogany of Caleb--the whole theme of "dirty girls"--is so repugnant, and Spike is so shiny and beautiful that I can't yet think of much of anything to say.
More later. Or earlier (tomorrow morning) as the case may be.
