I follow four shows: BTVS, ATS, 24, and The Shield. That's pretty much it for series TV.
I also watch most sports, especially my beloved Minnesota Vikings. I spend a ton of time watching the History Channel and PBS when they show historical documentaries.

A very nice article on James Marsters appearing at a "Friends of Science Fiction" convention actually named the "2001 FSF James Marsters 'Spike' Convention" in Lidcombe (near Sydney) Australia. Some new info that I hadn't read before. It is 2001 but still interesting, being more JM oriented than Spike oriented. www.cityofangel.com/behindTheScenes/bts/spikeconvention.html Alexandra K.

Torah, you asked, "Which article was that in, I would love to read it? Those comments made me cringe. I can't believe she would actually say that to someone. "
I'm still looking through my bookmarks to see if I have that interview marked. I may have found it and bookmarked it on my work computer so finding it again may not be soon (I'm on vacation for April).
If I come across it, I'll post the URL here.

You are funny.
Generation gap: My kids love Adult Swim. Josh, I think you were the only poster to mention the Cartoon Network. Cartoons have come a long way from my youth.
Recurring TV viewing theme: Many of us have cut back on other shows (plus, reading, social interactions and life in general) to focus on Buffy, Buffy and more Buffy. (Are we sure Joss is not Jasmine? I think I may be under mind control.)
I also think we cut back because after Buffy our expectations are so high that other shows just can't live up.

Diane:
I was thinking tonight while I was driving to my parents' house (Mom's birthday/Easter celebration) about possible topics for debate and I thought of one: Buffy/Angel v. Buffy/Spike. Since you want to be devil's advocate this time, I thought you could take the B/A relationship and discuss why it's better than B/S - and I'll do the reverse.
I thought this would be interesting because I have to admit....god, can't believe I'm about to admit this....I'm a B/A 'shipper. PLEASE don't shoot me or kick me off the board - I adore Spike (he's my absolute favorite character) but the diehard romantic in me is a B/A 'shipper. I'm not opposed to B/S, not at all, but I would prefer B/A. I think it's because I've watched Buffy from the beginning - I was 19,20 when it started and I could identify with that whole "first love", "true love" idea. I saw Buffy and Angel from the beginning and could relate to their relationship - well, the guy I was dating wasn't a vampire but we had our ups and downs. We had that passionate, young love that I recognize now wasn't love. We had the love (or infatuation) that burns and burns until there is nothing left, until you realize that maybe this isn't love or at least, the type of love that you dream about as a little girl. The love that lasts a lifetime, the kind of love I want. To me, B/A represent that idealized version of love - the love that you think will last forever and ever, the love that makes you wear blinders. But the idealized love often can't last - oftentimes, it breaks down when tested.
However (and here I go, talking in circles), I do think that B/S is probably a better relationship than B/A. Theirs is the real love, the joy and sorrow, the messiness that comes with love. Buffy and Spike know that this love is not "ideal" - ideal in the sense that is perfect. Theirs is not a perfect love but love never is. There is always struggles in love and I think the true love recognizes this and is able to work throught it together. B/A is a very idealized love and the romantic in me still wants to believe in that "one true love" (and I do) but the cynic in me (yep, had my heart broken and I'm still recovering) knows that a lot of times, that may or may not happen. I think if I had started watching Buffy in season 5 or 6 I would be a die-hard Spuffy fan - hell, I wouldn't mind it now, it's just not something I that desperately want.
OK, now that I made my confession (y'all still love me, right? Are you going to make me turn in my S'cubie card?), I propose that you take the side of "B/A all the way!" and I take the side of "B/S is the best!". This just a suggestion and if you don't want to do it, that's perfectly fine with me. I just thought it might be an interesting challenge for you. Let me know what you think - or if anyone else wants to debate with me, that's cool.
Have I just totally embarrassed myself with my confession? Let's see...I'm thinking, yeah.

Ellie, my dislike of Kennedy is based on very different reasons. I kind of think of the Scoobies as a very special club or family, of which I am a member, because I've paid my dues of watching, loving, fretting, discussing, etc. Kennedy came through the door into the Summers home, looked around, looked at Buffy and said 'Huh.' Then she proceeded to come on to Willow almost immediately, and then she criticized Buffy (who is her HOST) and Spike (who is SPIKE!). I don't think Kennedy could do anything to make me like her at this point. At to that the fact that I dislike the entire SIT plot.

Hey uh- Lee-
Diane is in her room- working on her essay on Spike (refer to #420). I have been sending her metaphorical chocolates and champagne to assist.
I cannot think of a single reason buffy would choose Angel over Spike except to break the S'cubies hearts.
(Oh yeah and the pesky fact that she is his one true love for whom he suffered torture and turned his whole life inside out to recover his ability to champion the innocent.)
"Well- so did Spike" whispers the other team.
The problem is that Spike and Angel have literally eternity- Buffy only gets the one shot. damn.

I don't think Buffy will pick Angel - in fact, I don't think she will pick anyone. Ideally, yes, I would love to see B/A reunited so the young girl in me can "ooh" and "aah". The grown woman in me recognizes that Buffy and Spike are the better match - B/A are too idealized. Now, I can argue for B/A until I'm blue in the face (not going to but I could) but I can also recognize that theirs might not be the best love.
Could I be more contradictory?

Sue said-
"(Are we sure Joss is not Jasmine? I think I may be under mind control.)
I also think we cut back because after Buffy our expectations are so high that other shows just can't live up."
So that is why have been at this computer all afternoon (except for lunch and biking). I have read 2 stories, watched The Real Blonde and checked the board. Hail Jasmine- now I need a 12 step program-
Seriously- I think you are right about Buffy upping the ante for what I expect from tv- it just will not be the same.

Cool-
i have been accustoming myself to the idea that the ending will not be good -couplewise- since that seems to be the pattern in Jossverse-
Unfortunately- I still want Sam and Diane and Maddy and Dave to be together- I too am a hopeless romantic-
I could almost accept Buffy choosing neither Spike or Angel and the two of them bonding over that...

(This is an historic post.)
Talking about what I don't like about Kennedy in the last post reminded me of something I've been feeling lately that I don't think I've expressed. Does anyone else agree that this season has disappointed them? Granted, there have been excellent episodes and wonderful acting, and Spike has had an important part of the story arc and continues to, but still...it just doesn't seem like Buffy the Vampire Slayer anymore. Almost none of the things I loved about the series are present anymore. Perhaps it is the possible tension on the set, but the characters are all so distant from each other. I don't 'see the love' anymore. Yes, Xander talks a good line about Buffy, and Willow holds his hand in the hospital and Buffy has gotten blurry eyed with Spike once or twice, but OTHER than James Marsters, have any of the actors seemed to connect with each other? For more than a moment? There's been NO funny conversations between Willow and Xander, all kinds of mixed signals between everyone, multitudes of unanswered questions, darn few hugs and even fewer kisses, plenty of shirtless Spike but no loving and the show has FOUR episodes left, and ANGEL is coming back. I just know he's going to screw things up for Spike. Giles and Buffy are still sniping at each other and Giles is still hating Spike and Wood is still alive and now we have to deal with Caleb taking screen time. I would just like Buffy to call Riley, order some napalm or something, a few of those pinpoint missles left over from Iraq and drop them on the hellmouth. THEN they could spend the last 3 episodes resolving all the issues still hanging out there like:
1. Was that Joyce who said Buffy wouldn't choose Dawn, and if so, what the heck did that mean? 2. When is 'she' going to tell Spike whatever? DO IT ALREADY! 3. Buffy, let's get with the Spike shagging ok? You have precious little time left you idiot! 4. Giles, what really happened to you when the Bringer tried to kill you, cause you have been WEIRD ever since. Make nice with your 'daughter' before its too late. 5. Willow, fix Xander's eye. Caleb isn't human so that wasn't a natural injury and you can FIX it! So get with the mojo for your best friend in the world. 6. Kennedy, you and the other girls can go home now, the hellmouth is closed. 7. Dawn, date someone. 8. Clem, come by the house and explain what happened to Spike's crypt, ok? We got hot wings for ya! 9. Andrew, turn yourself in. You're funny but you killed JONATHON! 10. Spike, see #3. 11. Faith, Angel needs a ride back to LA...you two look good together. Try not to make him too happy. Maybe that whip thing... 12. Angel, before you go, sit down with everyone else in the living room and everybody catch everyone else up on the past 2 seasons, and explain Jasmine and Caleb and the reign of fire and all of that. Don't forget Darla, Connor, Cordelia, Wesley, Spike/Buffy and the building falling down, Africa and the soul, and that fun time when everyone burst out singing. You can sing Mandy for everybody if you want. 13. While all this is going on, I want Buffy to reach out, give Spike her hand and a big smile, and then I want a marching band with 76 bloody trombones to pass by the window. 14. Then Joss can step in and explain the cheese man.
Anyone have any other issues to add?
Patti T.

Patti-
I agree Kennedy is a misfire- a mistake- I just wanted to be argued into being more tolerant. Raise me to my better self b/c lord help me I was disappointed that she was not offed by Caleb. How twisted is that?
I kind of like the SITs but I wonder if they are being set up as a kind of superhero club that makes all of them less special and yet more exalted than ordinary girls-
I kind of wish ALL girls were knighted by the glowy goodness of Slayeriety- but then that might make them Jasmine.

"Buffy, let's get with the Spike shagging ok? You have precious little time left you idiot!"
You know what this means - Patti made me laugh, Patti made me laugh, la la la....Patti made me laugh!
Oh, sidenote: can I tell you how much it warms my S'cubie heart to see "Lee's Laugh Song" catching on? I've tried using it on the Angel episode board but I think they think it's just weird. I haven't tried the Buffy episode board (I don't think). Hmmm....maybe I should try it over there. Soon, this song will be EVERYWHERE!!! MWHAHAHA...(looks around, grinning evilly, rubbing hands together)....MWHAHAHA!!!
Seriously, if this gets annoying, let me know.
