Ellie -
Give Vlad your address at scubiefan@yahoo.com. I'll make a copy of the JM episode on Andromeda and, when Vlad sends me your address, I'll send it to you.

Andrew is brilliant but doesn't have a whole lot of common sense. Xander may not be the brightest light bulb on the tree, but he has common sense. The writers could build on that combination of qualities. The funnel cake line could just have easily been addressed to Xander, with a snappy comeback. Buffy and the principal could have kept their respective parts.
You're right about Xander's lack of recognition. That doesn't mean he's not useful as a character, it just means the writers missed good opportunities. As much as I enjoyed the last episode, there seemed to be a lot of missed opportunities for character building.

Giles, most definitely Giles. Okay, yes, I know he is old enough to be my father, but I have loved that guy since his Taster's Choice commercial days. And this is a fantasy right? Who says I have to be practical. He speaks beautiful french and can sing. Enough said.
As to that Andromeda tape, I sense we are going to have to form a post-ing circle. As the Fraggles so rightly put it in song: unh unh pass it on!

Faith, Willow, Andrew, Kennedy.
Those four seem to be the most likely candidates, I would agree. Sarah is in final negotiations to do some terrible movie that will start shooting when the new Buffyverse show would start shooting, if there is going to be one (might I just say that I vote for the new show being called something besides Faith, or Faith the Vampire Slayer). I don't neccesarily agree with your ideas about Willow and Xander being joined at the hip. This does not mean, however, that any new show might not benefit from his prescence.
I wonder how big of a cast they are willing to start out with on a new show. In all likelyhood, Buffy, Dawn, and Spike will be limited to guest spots on the new show and/or Angel. That means at least two of my favorite characters won't be on it, and maybe not Xander either. Seeing as how that is the case, I would prefer that there be some new characters to add a different flavor.

Spike is one of the show's most popular characters. JM has said he would be interested in returning. Plus...if SMG is to come back to guest spot, wouldn't she want to see her sister?
I'm not real keen on a Faith tVS either. Although you need a slayer, I would like to see that role played down to a more cooperative part. If Willow ever gets hold of her powers, she is as formidable as the slayer. More characters to offset each other like the Xander/Andrew thing or Xander/Spike. As female centered as this show has been, I would like to have more males involved. We have a history with Xander and Spike. Andrew we're getting to like. Giles is out, forget that.
Star Trek, the Next Generation was years after the original. Long enough so viewers didn't have an invested part with the cast. For tVS to continue in some manner, the viewers need to have characters we're invested in or we're going to keep comparing them to the way it used to be and become discontented.
OK, Joshua and Robert whaddya say?

I don't know how funnel cake is prepared elsewhere in the country, but in the South, it's deep fried.

I would hope that any guest spots by SMG would also bring Michelle, of course I would also hope that the new series would just have Dawn in it. The thing is that it would be hard to explain why a minor would be hanging out with Faith, Willow, and whoever else. The only out I see is if Buffy and Spike have to go somewhere together, and leave Dawn behind. Maybe Buffy and Spike, or hell why not just Buffy, will have to take a dive into the Hellmouth to save the world. Spike takes care of little bit, and they are both on the new series.
I am sure the ME writers are capable of writing a number of believable scenarios. The real question is what characters do they want to work with, and what sort of story arcs and concepts do they want to do. This gets into what Robert was saying about Xander. One could say that Andrew has taken his place. I choose to believe that ME simply thinks Andrew and Kennedy need to get established, so that everyone won't freak out if they are in the opening credits come next fall. Maybe Xander is going to have a big part in the new series and they don't feel bad keeping him in the background this season. Who knows? My ideal new series would have:
Spike, Willow, Dawn, Xander, Andrew
Faith and someone new would also be good, but I am much more interested in seeing what happens to the above people than Faith. If I had to have an SIT in the new series I would much rather have Amanda or Molly or Chao Ann or Nameless Blonde SIT on the Left than Kennedy.

I agree. I also agree that Andrew doesn't necessarily replace Xander. As for Spike, even if he does take the grand leap into the Hellmouth doesn't mean he won't be back. Angel came back, Buffy came back...twice.
I was thinking, the speech Willow gave about energy, could that be foreshadowing something about Dawn?
I would like to see Xander buff up a little bit though. If Principal Wood can fight vamps, the Xandman could do a lot better.

If Spike continues with the series and it lasts more years, JM's character is not supposed to age, but JM will. It might be a factor in deciding who goes and who stays. The same problem applies to Angel and David Boreanaz also. Perhaps the foreshadowing of humanity as a reward for a vampire will be introduced in BtVS later, if it looks like JM/Spike is desirable as a character for the spinoff.
Of course, The Master was an ancient vampire and he didn't look like any spring chicken. So maybe the aging problem could be solved by more creative writing by the show's creator explaining why Spike is getting a little older looking. Angel is definitely getting older looking and I don't know how (or if) anyone is explaining that (I don't watch that show much).

I just have this feeling (OK, I'm willing to do Voodoo to make this happen) that Kennedy is bad. My fantasy is that when it all comes out Willow clocks her. Just one good evil Willow punch is all I ask. Altho baseball bats at the Expresso Pump are also good.
I also have never really liked Faith. It was a good story line and Eliza gave great performance, but she grates on me. I'm not sure I will be able to forbear if it's "Faith the VS". And I don't want her to become a love interest for Spike. Euuw.
I'd like to see:

Alexandra-
Hey again- Ok I e mailed you and Scubiefan- I cannot believe how excited I am about the prospect of seeing JM in Andromeda.
If it is ok with you I will be happy to forward the tape to the next S'cubie that requests it. I am sure there are a wealth of vampire books and tapes tht we could share among us.
I have been thinking about the aging Spike thing as well and I like your idea that they should just incorporate it as a feature of his specific experience.
I would hate to see him edged out of the show b/c of the natural effects of aging. I mean from what I can tell a large numer of his fans seems to be middle aged mommas with attitude so we can definitely relate...
AND Now for something completely unrelated
I do not know what is going on with Xander (and I was frankly a little put off) but upon thinking it over I am gald the actor is not so hungup that he feels the need to go "anorexic" to fulfil the audience's fantasies.
I remember reading that JM said he kept himself deliberately slim b/c only thin vampoires ahd captured the American public's imagination. Also he brought up the fact that he was supposed to represent hunger at its most elemental. (gotta love an analytical pretty boy)
Anyway- none of that is operative with Xander and he is still really cute. Let him be a little chubby I say and don't make me be mean. (and no I do not have weight issues -yet- but I feel bad for the actor who probably does ( I mean this is America) have some weight issues...now.
