Teaser Well, that fight was over quickly... kind of them to use a net to do their hauling. What is this, a parental issues support group? #rofl1# I was wondering if maybe it was an anger management thing, except that no one else seemed that angry . . . Woah. I didn't even catch that. Maybe he asked the phone sex woman to pretend to be this woman? Well, if he's been on his own for long enough and has been waking up that often to push the stupid button, I'd say that's a big factor.

My mom is very oddly obsessed with how Shakira is able to get her boobs to rotate in the same direction in that Verizon commercial. I must say, I find it interesting, too, but not to the point of calling people back in from another room... #rofl1# again. ;D Yeah, if I didn't hate Locke's dad before, I sure do now. Just so completely a horrible horrible person. Which, when I think about it, is a very odd choice for title. I'm gonna really have to think more about this . . .

Act V Desmond go bump. "In about fifteen minutes, you are going to be very right or very wrong, brother" "I know you" He remembers Jack... "It doesn't matter" Why does he say "I married her" like it's "I killed her"? That is an excellent question, my friend. Very nice try. See, now this is what I'm sayin'! This alone is making me sooooooo want to see the next ep right now!

Just got a chance to watch last night's episode Dude! Didn't see that coming at all. With all the serious of the show, I laughed out loud for about 5 minutes when they pulled out the "Orientation" tape. Dude! I soooo flashed on the hysterical W&H company film that I was laughing all during the viewing of the tape. ;D Huh - I didn't notice that. I'm gonna have to watch it again. It would be a very interesting example of the interconnectedness, wouldn't it? Yes! I want the Jin story now, dammit! ;D

I think Locke speaks for all of us when he says "we're gonna need to watch that again". 'Cuz, whoa! Guess we were whining too much about not getting enough info. We got tons of info now, but what the hell does it all mean? Dharma project? Unique electromagnetic fluctuations and then "and incident"? The DeGroots?! And the film doesn't say "the world will end" it says the future of the project is in your hands. Were we right or were we right! It's an experiment! They mentioned Skinner and had polar bears! Too. Much. Data! Eeeeeep! On the up side, we got a great Hurley moment. "Returning to normalness" Kate runs out of the jungle. "Oh crap." And why does it make sense to have Sawyer try to escape? Considering he's the one with the pre-existing shoulder wound. My vote for dorkiest line of the ep? "It's a girl." ;D Hurley's "oh, crap" moment was hilarious!! Also, later when he told Locke to 'go for it' when he punched in the wrong numbers. Loved his face in that scene! Yeah - "it's a girl" struck me as weird, too. What you would say after a baby is born. Huh. Regarding the button. I was wonder which would really be more of a leap of faith - to follow directions, put in the numbers and push the button, or to let the time run out and not? Most excellent question, Karen!! 'Cuz I see the button pushing thing as less faith, more just being a sheep.

Act III Why isn't he wanting to watch it again? Huh. Michelle Rodriguez.. I wonder how many other survivors there are... "THEY" "We're about to be the best thing that ever happened to you" He's been hiding underground with a less than two-hour window between code-pressings.. of course he doesn't get out much. Thing is, it could be automated.. Yep, fits in with the "Skinner" thingie from the movie. The bunker is a big skinner box.... Whatinhell is an "electromagnetic station"? "Makes his (nonferrous) fillings hurt?" Huh.. every 108 minutes... interesting. I wonder if a different sequence of numbers would produce a different result?
So there IS another entrance.... Why an airlock? Changing the numbers would require a leap of faith. The wheel and inner hatch reminded me of the inside of a ship. I had the same "ship" feeling. And we've had lots of instances of shipwrecks as well.

Too many questions, not enough answers. We did learn, however, that: Desmond has been down the hatch for three years. Desmond wasn't waiting for Jack, or Hurley, or even Kate. Desmond was waiting for his replacement. Desmond is bug-shagging crazy, and not terribly bright, since he bought the "end of the world" scenario from Calvin immediately. ;D Bug-shagging crazy indeed! #rofl1# Ooooh, clever you, with remembering the link to Walt. Not to mention Claire's little Turniphead. I love it!! I can so see this happening! Maybe the back of plane people had a Crazy Non-French Guy to give them intell. ;D Exactly! Because the people-rat experimenters didn't want it to, of course. Nope. We still don't know.

Almost too much information to process. My mind is on overflow. Yup. *nods a lot* The most annoying thing evah! I hope we see more of Desmond. I really think he could bring some interesting elements. #rofl1# ;D

So I think The Others are the survivors of the Black Mountain. But that the "Tail Survivors" and "Our Survivors" each know about The Others, and would assume they each were it. This is actually quite logical and funny as hell. Ooooh, that's right! So the Dharma Project people were perhaps builing on work that had already been going on earlier? Or were intersted in things that had perhaps been discovered back then? ;D #rofl1# I love your medicated brain!

Hi all! There were some whoa! moments in this week's ep. Although it seems like most of those were in the preview for next week. Neat-o discussions so far. I am enjoying the discussions a bit more than the ep, although that might be because everything fictional seems a bit pale in comparison to Serenity at the moment. Yes, that is a hard act to be compared to. Yes! It was like . . . contagious hysteria or something. Or maybe the first signs of that psycho sickness. ;D **nods nods nods** Hurley is us - the ordinary folks. I am getting the vibe that all Jack and Locke interactions are basically about Jack and Locke personal issues. But they keep forcing their issues on everyone else! Well, not schooled in this at all and it's been a long time since I read it, but I can't help but think of the whole "is this really happening or is she crazy" concept being possibly relevant here. My contagious hysteria thing is starting to sound pretty plausible. Yes, I was wondering about that one too. Turn folks into Reavers, perhaps? #rofl1# My eyes! My eyes!! I'd much rather have Jawyer. Or Sawyid. ;D Hmmmmmmm. Is this gonna turn out to be a Kate!tinyplane thing or a Charlie!VirginMarySmack thing? I always love reading your posts, Linda! Hawaii very very pretty.

Why an airlock? Quarantine!!!! Magnetic fields sometimes generate a vibration that will affect fillings in the teeth. When Jack saw Desmond he said "You"! DragonI am really wondering about the whole quarantine thing. I didn't know that about magnetic fields . . . well, it would make sense with the compass problems and some of the other stuff we've seen . . . Hmmmmm.

The hatch is part of a giant behavioral laboratory. I think I heard the word "Initiative" during the annoyingly choppy and worn-out brainwashing training film. Also, polar bears and psychics! Desmond is a lab rat. Skinner box, anyone? Good rats push the button type in a series of numbers adding up to 108 every 108 minutes, and are rewarded with the Technicolor Food of Crazyness. The numbers are bad. Locke had a girlfriend, once. Locke's obsessive tendencies go way back. Now some theorizing: Walt appears to possess psychic powers. Therefore, Walt would be of great interest to the people running the experiment, hence the kidnapping. Claire's baby is either a red herring, or he's much too little to have manifested his powers, therefore he is of no interest to the people running things, at least not yet. The Others are survivors from the back of the plane. They didn't have as much plane debris to play with, so they're in worse shape than our group. Someone has warned The Others about a sinister group of weirdos called "The Others", so they assumed that Sawyer, Michael and Jin are "The Others". So, each group thinks that the other is "The Others". Get it? Good. Now explain it all to me. I found interesting the way that the personalities of Locke, Jack, and Sayid were expressed in how they reacted to the "end of the world" scenario. John "I want to believe" Locke fell for it with no questions. Jack behaved like a scientist, and a cynic, and demanded proof. Sayid behaved like a soldier; he fixed the computer and worried about "why" after the job was done. Now, will someone please explain to me how, if the power was out and the bunker was running on emergency power, and the computer was as dead as a Norwegian Blue, the flipping timer connected to the computer kept right on counting down? Then when the computer was repaired, it was business as usual, with no need to reconnect the timer to the computer. I think it's another rat intelligence test. Anne, more than a little fed up ETA: Did I miss it, or do we still not know how Locke wound up in the wheelchair? Actually, the clock could be a wind-up and resets by rewinding everytime the computer tells it to. If they hadn't found the lights and fixed the computer, the countdown would have ended. Strange, isn't it, that there is someone in the group that can do just about everything needed by the "Group". Oh my, that is a very clever and good and intriguing thought. Oh! Maybe he and his buddy that died in Australia may have been a "bunker team" that left and never told anyone the real truth! And so the numbers aren't cursed, rather, the Dharma Initiative folks hunted them down and messed up their lives! #rofl1# #rofl1# #rofl1# #rofl1# ;D So, you're saying she's gonna be the next one to show up on the island?

Maybe she is the island. Locke saw the face of the island and said it was beautiful, not that I'd trust any facet of his judgement. I'm with you, Shakira gives me the wiggins.

Because of being at my sister's and having to watch VM for the review, I didn't see, or tape, this episode of Lost. I did hear a really cute, 1 minute summary, to the tune of the Gilligan's Island theme, from a Columbus radio station on Thurs morning. I couldn't make heads or tails of what really happened though, except that Michael, Jin & Sawyer were taken captive.
Just trying to read through this thread tired me out! More new characters and mysteries? I may try to find a show summary on one of the Lost sites to get caught up for next week.

Have only been able to skim part of the Orientation discussion. It was pointed out that the instructional film referred to Kelvin, but I don't believe anyone mentioned his role, according to the Biographical Names section of my trusty dictionary, as a mathematician and physicist. I didn't have time to sift thru much of the googled results but here's some info with attitude: zapatopi.net/lordkelvin.htmlOf course he fits, it's all in the numbers. By the way, I'll also point out the obvious about the 540 day expected project life: 540 = 108 x 5 We got from the code nos. to the sum, but why 5 times the total? Since the published episode title this week is "Everyone Hates Hugo", we may find out more about his history with the jinxed numbers. Anyone find more info on the DeGroots?
