Dunno if anyone has seen this yet but here you go: www.dharmaindustries.com/ ('course I'm just getting an IP denied message right now... but given the other sites out there, I suspect there'll be something there eventually) Also, this site is very good at catching all the references to the numbers in the show: thelostnumbers.blogspot.com/

Have only been able to skim part of the Orientation discussion. It was pointed out that the instructional film referred to Kelvin, but I don't believe anyone mentioned his role, according to the Biographical Names section of my trusty dictionary, as a mathematician and physicist. I didn't have time to sift thru much of the googled results but here's some info with attitude: zapatopi.net/lordkelvin.htmlOf course he fits, it's all in the numbers. By the way, I'll also point out the obvious about the 540 day expected project life: 540 = 108 x 5 We got from the code nos. to the sum, but why 5 times the total? Since the published episode title this week is "Everyone Hates Hugo", we may find out more about his history with the jinxed numbers. Anyone find more info on the DeGroots? One possibility: DeGroot . . . The DeGroot Prize ("Prize" in the following) is awarded to the author or authors of a published book in Statistical Science. The Prize is named for Morris ("Morrie") H DeGroot, and recognises the impact and importance of his work in Statistics and Decision Theory, and his marked influence on the evolution of the discipline over several decades through his personal scholarship, educational and professional leadership. The prize particularly recognises DeGroot's authorship and editorship of major books that had marked impact on the development of Statistics and Decision Theory, and the value he placed on the role of books generally.

Thanks, Lola. Ah, Decision Theory. More and more the experiment with human lab rats.

And why does it make sense to have Sawyer try to escape? Considering he's the one with the pre-existing shoulder wound. I think it's because he needed lifting and wouldn't be able to lift Mike or Jin with a dodgy arm.

Lost 2x03 _________ Oh dear the computer has been shot to pieces His dad is a real bastard. I like the way he explained how he was there. Boat crash, and some guy was already there? hmmm. Why did the guy say 'help me help me' and need Desmond if he could do it on his own. Unless he knew he was going to die and needed someone to coninue pushing the button. Jack and Desmond recognise eachother but can't quite put a finger on it. Oh the girl was helping the so called 'others'. Knew they weren't actually the 'others'. More survivors from the plane is more likely. The big guy who keeps hitting people with clubs used to be in 'Oz' on HBO with the guy who plays Mike. Hope he becomes a regular. So Jack pushed it. Will they all move to the bunker? Can't fit 40 down there comfortably.

LOLA! Nice work!
I didn’t see this ep, so I really appreciate having this to read. Very helpful.
Yes, I do see where you’re going with this, and it’s really great speculation – though I can only say to it: No! Please, no! I can barely keep track of the characters as it is.
Well, now see – that whole U of M thing explains a LOT. When I was at Ohio State, I learned that UM students and grads were not only odiferous, but well . . . I hate to say it . . . not very smart or well-educated. But by golly, I believe we’ve stumbled on the key as to why everything seems so nonsensical!
But seriously, loved and agree with the Skinner and DeGroot speculation.
Yes, I’m confused on this point also. You don’t think UM grads are also writing the show, do you??
I would say: “No way it’s a coincidence!”
Also, I never realized what a tendency toward violence you have. I am making a note to myself not to argue with Karen at next S’cubiefest, if you are around, over which one of us should take which plate off of which tray, etc.

Great review Lola! I really liked the parsing out the orientation tape. Much appreciated and that had to have taken a lot of time. Still confused though. I think I need some time to ruminate... like a couple years.

They did such a nice job with making us think they were giving us informatoin while actually telling us something else.

" This really helps in understanding what the rejoined tape is or isn't. I haven't had much time to rewatch and your efforts really are appreciated to help make sense of this. And leave it to Spring to figure out that it's those rivals up north that are insidiously causing this confusion.

We have a corporate lawyer who has worn her U of M jacket to the office without causing a riot. Around here there are other football rivalries that get even more heated, in particular to the east!

I felt it was important to really dig into what the tape said and didn't say, as well as how the new footage tried to fool us into thinking it was completing our picture. And well, what can one say about Spring, after all? I mean, she is what she is, we've all learned to accept that but we love her anyway. #nanana#
