So, Hanso may have either faked the plane crash with no survivors, or just faked up the report of finding the plane. Interesting... ETA: Thank you for posting the link, O PanUniversal Voice of Reason. There actually seems to be a fiendish plan here. I feel slightly more optimistic knowing that. Very very interesting! Also "disappearances of several Pacific Ocean flights" stood out to me as well. I thought that bit of info was very intriguing.

Teaser
What was Locke burning?
8 days ago. So it's been eight days since this encounter.
So Locke's dad is actually Hannibal Lecter.
Don't you know John? Don't you know where we are?
We're going to a new/old place. That's vague.
Again, I really think the Losties should go a little farther from their camp before going to the bathroom. Sheesh.
And Locke's back.

Part I
It's a set up. If ben's really tied up in the jungle, then it's because he wanted to be.
Locke wants to recruit a murderer.
3 days ago. That's a big jump.
So the Others are just camping out on some other part of the island. OK then.
The Others are excited that Locke's here? They've been waiting for him? Are they going to worship him?
Juliet's transmission to Ben. So there's a couple days gap between these episodes.
Former camp.
I don't think that no one getting hurt is the issue here.
Ben's healing fast because of Locke's presence?
Locke's not ready. Are they going to brainwash him?
A gesture of free will and commitment. I don't think it counts as free will if you do something under duress.
Just kill him Locke, and get it over with.
Can Jack still be trusted? Good question.
Two weeks since Jack Kate and Sawyer were captured by The Others.
Tramping around the jungle barefoot is a *really* bad idea.
Whoa intensity between Locke and Sawyer.

Part II Sayid they can trust. *Nods* What is Sayid doing? Naomi Dorrit. 80 nautical miles west of the island there's a ship, and that's where the helicopter took off from. that actually makes sense. Found the entire wreckage off the coast of Bali in an ocean trench. That sounds like it was planted. So is that where this island is located? Near Bali? I'm not even sure exactly where Bali is. The bodies were all found in the plane. If it's planted, how did they manage that? Well, obviously we're not dead. Or are we? ?? Naomi works for a company of some sort. Hired by Penelope. Yep. The clouds cleared and she saw the island and her helicopter crashed. 3 days ago. Something Locke or The Others did to make the island visible? Mikail took the satellite phone to prevent Naomi from contacting the freighter, I'll bet. What is that? A black box? Remind me not to rescue you, Sayid. Okay then. 3 days ago. Ancient ruins. Like the foot statue? Very Apocalypse Now. And Locke can't kill his dad. I'll be here the rest of the week, if you change your mind. What does that mean? All the Others are watching. He's not who we thought he was. Oh, right, that's Cindy. And the children. The Black Rock? Neither of these guys have seen it before, have they? The Brig. Episode title! Yep, The Black Rock. Mining the island. For what? And whose (what countries) slave ship was it? Yep, it's Locke's dad. Sawyer doesn't recognize him.

Part III
Oh, it's the satellite phone. I guess they got it back from Mikail.
One thing at a time.
There's some kind of interference preventing any transmissions.
Nosy Kate shows up. Hee.
Rousseau! She wants dynamite. For?
Richard.
Ben wanted to embarrass Locke. Is that true?
Locke's miraculous healing could only happen to some one who was very special. And that undermines Ben's authority.
Ben's been wasting time with things like fertility problems. What is their big purpose, then.
Ah, Richard gave Locke Ben's case file.
Locke's your son, but you didn't raise him.
So the Others abducted Locke's dad. Wasn't magic. Provided he's telling the truth, which I think he is.
Sawyer didn't know that Locke was
You sure it's an island? Frankly, I'm not so sure of anything anymore.
If this isn't hell, friend, then where are we?
He threw Locke out the window because he was becoming a nuisance.
Conned. Locke's dad says the magic word.
Tom Sawyer. Boo-Ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Locke's dad is the original Sawyer.

Part IV
Now where are the Others going.
Locke's fear of abandonment.
Don't tell me what I can't do. That line again.
But I thought I was special. We'll everyone makes mistakes. Ouch!
Jasper, AL
The Note.
This is such an awesome scene. And we've been waiting for it for such a long time!
Sawyer's mom's name was Mary.
Locke's dad is correct in that he's not responsible for Sawyer's dad's murder-suicide.
And Locke's dad is dead. Or is he? Okay. I guess he's really dead.
Thank you.

Coda Anything you want to say to me, you can say in front of her. Is he serious? What the hell is wrong with Jack? Juliet's not so surprised about Naomi crashing onto the island. Why didn't anybody tell me this? HONESTLY JACK, KATE JUST TOLD YOU!! WEREN'T YOU LISTENING?!?! We should tell her. Tell her what? TELL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He ruined my life, and he ruined mine, and he had it coming. True from a certain perspective, but did he really deserve to die? Also, Sawyer and Locke did make their own bad decisions on their own. Blaming him allows them to not take responsibility for their own actions. Locke tips Sawyer off about Juliet being a mole, and Ben's plans. There's going to be raid on the Losties camp in three days. Just in time for the finale! Locke's not going back. He was never undercover. He's on his own journey now. Is it true? Not anymore. Love this music.

I wonder if the Others will believe Locke actually did it. I mean, if he couldn't stab his father do they really think he'd be able to strangle him—a much more personal way to kill someone? I was wondering that too. Somehow, they're going to be able to tell that Locke didn't actually do it.

Can Sayid fix the techno gadget phone? Yes! Can Sayid fix the magic Island interferance? I'm thinking, no. Hee! What about us being dead? One thing at a time. ;D That's my Sayid. You want Kate to not spill the beans to her woobie Jack? Um . . . Hee! Locke and Rousseau. Comedy gold. First, he's actually whittling. Then: "Rousseau." "Locke." "What brings you to the Black Rock?" "Dynamite. You?" Cue screaming from the kidnappees. Rousseau is . . . not interested. ;D Lab hiring guy. Ah, named Richard. Oh, yeah. You're trapped on a scary, magical Island filled with killer smoke monsters and insane Others, but hey - look at that view! Hmmmm. Telling him that Benry just wanted to embarrass and discredit you. That the group thinks Locke is "special" (like that isn't going to feed into Locke's issues, big time) and Benry doesn't like that. That the group is her for "more important" things, not just fertility experiments and playing dress up. Oh, Richard thinks daddy has to die too, he just wants to provide you with a murderer so you don't have to do it yourself. He's a giver. Aaaaand kidnapped daddy spills all the beans. Because, yes, he thinks they're all dead and in hell, so why not, eh? Tom Sawyer, yep. "How about that. Sawyer's my name too." And now we see which way he'll jump. Yeah, that was great, wasn't it?

Oh, yeah. I like that idea. Cuse and Lindeloff wrote this episode, and you can really tell it. Can't wait to see how it all fits together. But - what the heck is Danielle up to with the dynamite? You don't suppose she is working with Jack and Juliette on some scheme? Or, as Sara mentioned to me, maybe she's on a mission of her own - to rescue her daughter. ETA: I see you guys discussed this above. I shouldn't start at the end of the thread and read backwards. So, the helicopter that Naomi got dropped had taken off of a ship. That explains how it was able to reach the island. Locke's dad thought he was in hell. Well, he is now for sure. I am so pissed at Locke for setting Sawyer up like that. I didn't like watching Sawyer kill Locke's dad. It was very .... dark and raw. It really was dark and raw. A very disturbing scene. Poor Sawyer. And dude! I didn't know Sawyer was from Jasper, Alabama. I've been to Jasper (not that I remember anything about it ). It's only like an hour and a half away from here. And this coincidence can only mean one thing--Josh Holloway and I belong together. Not forever, necessarily; I think one weekend would do the trick. ;D Ahem. Not that I would ever mock yours and Josh's love or anything.

Just a side thought, but I really can't wait to see what CFL is going to do with the dynamite. I see a big mother/daughter reunion coming soon. Yup. Karen wondered if she might not also be working with Karl on pulling off some thrilling heroics, which would be doubly fun. Oh, Karl. I had forgotten about him. He very well could be working with Rousseau, couldn't he?

Oh, what an excellent thought! That would be sooooo wicked cool! ;D See, as much as I really want to see a mother/daughter reunion, I kind of like imagining Rousseau just using it for random, meaningless chores. Coming by to pick it up, sort of like she's marking it off her shopping list . . . "Gather wood: Check. Set trap for supper: Check. Pick up another box of dynamite: Check. Make bed: Check. Use dynamite to blast through wall of cave to make bedroom seem more open and airy: Check . . . ." And did that scene between her and Locke remind anyone of the Buffy and Amy scene... "Hi Amy, how've you been?" "Rat. You?" "Dead." ;D Hee! Actually, that exchange reminded me of Buffy and the blood bank nurse in Anne. "What are you doing?" "Breaking in and going through your personal files." It also reminds me of something else, but I can't remember what exactly.

Kristin (from eonline) really liked this ep. I liked her comment here: Nerd Alert! A Star Wars fan friend emailed me to dish that when Princess Leia was being kept as a slave girl, she used her chains to strangle her captor, Jabba the Hut, just like Sawyer used chains to strangle Cooper to death.
I'm guessing the parallel is plenty intentional (given the multiple and massive Star Wars posters I've seen in Damon Lindelof's office), and I love the irony of slaves strangling their masters with the chains that once bound them.Interesting!

I liked how we had a bunch of different subgroups in this episode. Locke and Sawyer. Jack and Juliet. Hurley, Jin, Charlie, Desmond, and Sayid.
Also, I wonder if Richard gave Locke Sawyer's case file of his own accord, or if he was instructed to do so by Ben.
