and I want NO dropped plot lines. You don't have the heroine of the show raped and then forget about it. Huh huh. I'd be royally ticked off never to find out who did that. And perhaps that mystery is related to the murder.. Oh, I imagine they WILL reference the rape at some point. I just find it unnecessary. It's not as if plot lines haven't been dropped before on great shows. Of course, this is not just any plot line: it's about the date rape of a teenage girl, and that isn't something a writer should play around with. They've no choice but to do something with it. That said, a plot with sensitive subject matter can still suck.

I smell red herring...and it isn't coming from my fridge. It all fits, of course...Duncan's inexplicable silent treatment (not to mention his need for meds), the continuing relationship between Jake and Veronica's mom that we "saw" in the pilot episode. That's what bothers me. This show has set a pattern of throwing you a bone that turns out to be a mere chew toy, while the steak remains elusive. I'm of the opinion that this episode's clues were deliberately meant to confuse rather than illuminate. The answer is complex, no doubt...but not THIS complex. Plus, none of it sheds any light on Lily's murder, or its motive. I haven't counted the episodes, but we're probably what...on number seven or so? Yet we've heard absolutely nothing about Veronica's rape since the pilot. Even tonight, when the subject was mentioned, her narration made no reference to it. I wonder if they're simply dropping that plot line altogether? If so...I would actually be fine with that. It always felt a bit like overkill anyway; her boyfriend dumps her with no explanation, her best friend is brutally slain, her father is humiliated over it, her mother deserts her (again with no explanation)... Isn't that fodder for more than enough angst and mystery? The rape subplot felt like it was unnecessarily piled on at the time; at this stage it feels even more so. In short, we plainly have plenty of plot on our plate at present. Say that last sentence five times really fast. That's all I've got. Good evening, S'cubies. P.S. You know, now that I think about it, there IS some sort of smell from my fridge. Month-old leftover Egg Foo Yung, perhaps. I'll research further and get back to you. Hey Rob, Actually that was the one thing I was looking for this morning. To see if anyone mentioned her discovery and comments on Sara's (?) rape. I thought that was a huge mention and extremely significant. (Curious to see if Spring mentions it.) Veronica's narration very blandly comments on how Sara had been raped-- and didn't "handle it well", but got no counseling or emotional help, drifted apart from her friends, etc. (should go back and get the exact comments). I thought it was very specific and relevant to Veronica's own situation and was intended as a direct reminder to the viewer that this has not yet been dealt with--either in the show or by Veronica herself and fallout WILL be occuring eventually.. Opps, gotta run. Jim getting ready for a trip and stuff to do to get him out of the house.

I don't think they'll drop the rape plot, either (but I'm with Rob - I don't like it either, and won't really miss it if they do, but I agree it is HUGE). Altho, there was another comment/question that Veronica made that gave me pause to think that they were maybe going to shelve it for a while. It was something like - 'maybe some things are better left uncovered'. I don't agree with that, and I don't think she does either. But it was put out there, so I wondered if they might be going to let that thread lie, for a while, at least. Sorry I dropped off so abruptly last night. Stupid computer! Was fun, tho.

OK! I just sent my review into Vlad. I haven't read a word of your comments yet, and I think I will wait until he posts the review, since my thoughts on many of your thoughts are likely to be in it. Also - not much time right now! I am anxious to read all you've written about this interesting episode! And to see who agrees with my theories and who disagrees, and who has come up with interesting theories that never crossed my mind, etc. I am going to run make a few comments on Vlad's Lost review, then I've got to run again. Not much time for much board stuff today. Later, S'cubie-d'ubies.

That explains a lot. I s'pose it's a really good thing that they were both virgins.
Otherwise, "Ew!"

See, this is the freaky thing that Sue was talking about before! (And that I had been thinking of, too.) 'Course, she also said, what if it got really weird if Lily and Weevil turned out to be half-sibs. And now Weevil is saying the Lily tattoo is 'cuz that's his little sisters name. Which was just a cover-up lie to Logan, right? *cue dramatic music* Or was it? Eeeep! Lola I wish I had a million dollars. You know they're just doing this to make us think that and it's gonna turn out to be something completely different. ;D AAAH!!! One big happy family. Maybe Eli is Jake and someone else's... and Veronica is Jake and Liane's.... Or Eli is Celeste's and someone else's... and my head just 'sploded. I wonder how Logan (who I hate less this week) is related to her.

In the scene before she said that line, when she was talking to her dad, there was a 'freeze frame' moment when I was SURE she had suddenly had the thought that the episode was hinting about - that her father might not really be her father. And when she said that line about leaving things uncovered, I took it to mean that she wasn't sure she wanted to find out the truth about herself. We'll see eventually, I'm sure!

That explains a lot. I s'pose it's a really good thing that they were both virgins. Otherwise, "Ew!" exactly! Makes me think THAT's why they made it so clear Veronica and Duncan had not had sex with each other. or maybe that's what I'm supposed to think they were doing...

So am I. And Eli and Lilly - I think they had a "thing". Then they got married and built a massive pharmaceutical company. Ok, maybe not so funny. Had to give it a shot. ;D
