well, someone threatened veronica's mom. i wouldn't be surprised, personally, if threats were also involved with abel. i don't recall the show ever explicitly stating whether he had any loved ones; does anyone else? I'd sort of forgotten about the threats. Koontz could have done that. I wonder if he was a hired bully boy of the Kane security chief who was handy to use as the "murderer" when they needed a fall guy?

yeah, I had no doubt about his guilt either. But the little twist at the end with it being a whole different girl - that was nice! The chemistry between Veronica and her dad is SO good. Casting for this show is outstanding, as is the dialogue. "I'd want you on my side." "I'd be there." aww... LOVED the exploding ink when Veronica opened the safe! And they kept me going through the whole episode, changing my mind about whether Logan's mom is dead or alive. Really good episode this week. And next week....ALYSON!! yea! I liked how they put a twist on a story that would be old hat either way it turned out - if he'd done it or not done it. Veronica and her dad are some of my favorite bits. The "on my side" lines. When she kind of jabbed him with didn't it seem familiar when no one believed you. Just even simple little moments when he is cooking or something are so nice. And I like how they have their differences, they fight and don't always agree, but you can see that they always still love each other. And they usually find a way back to an understanding at the end. They're not perfect, which is . . . well, a good thing. Lola

All I know is we're supposed to wonder if Duncan killed his sister in an epileptic rage which he can not now remember. And I was very glad to see the deputy again, and to have Veronica apologize. Also, liked her apology and the subsequent exchange of looks between her and the formerly hated not-victim. Yep. It's moments like that one that make me not as worried Veronica will wall herself away from people because of bitterness or fear of being hurt. She learns and grows. Lola

"Type 4 (generalized spikes and waves) occurred more often both in probands with epilepsy and their siblings than the respective controls. Thus, the coincidence of photosensitivity will appear as higher if only a PPR [photoparoxysmal response] with generalized spikes and waves is considered to be indicative of photosensitivity." Indeed it does exist...seems to be genetic and is the type of epilepsy that is sensitive to light, ie, if the person with epilepsy is exposed to flashing lights, etc, that can trigger a seizure. This is very interesting. So, Duncan might have seen something and something about it could have triggered an event. Hmmmmm. I wonder if those kind of lost memories can be retrieved? Lola

I don't think there is any such thing as an epileptic rage...in the middle of a seizure, it is really difficult to do anything beyond having the seizure, much less kill your sister. ETA: There are a lot of reasons that Duncan would have hid that fact...for a long time (and still to some people today), epilepsy is something to be ashamed of...I can imagine that in the Kane family, they would have told Duncan to keep that to himself. It could also be the reason for the breakup; all his mom would have to do is say to Duncan, "Do you want her (and everybody) to find out about your illness?" I hadn't thought of it being a factor in the "are they semi-siblings or not" debate. Both because it could provide another reason for the break up, and because of the genetic thing. Hmmmmm. Lola

Lola This is not my pickup, I read it somewhere else - but I thought it was terrific. Character names: Bishop, knight and Rooks. Hee, hee.

I suppose I can buy that the credit cards had not gotten cancelled yet. I would think that task would fall to Aaron (or at least, it would fall to Aaron to tell their accountant to do it) and he may not have done it yet. If he truly believes his wife is dead, he's going to be pretty discombobulated for a while. My best guess - and totally wild guess - is that the cards will turn out to be stolen, and a dead end. I was thinking that the cards could simply have not been gotten to yet - what with the trauma of the event adn all. Although, I would tend to think that folks like the Echolls would have a business manager or lawyer or something that would do all that. Hmmmm. Now I'm back to fanwanking. The idea of them being a dead end is a very good possibility. Lola

Alright I know I'm talking to myself but - didn't you just love the doctor's office joke? Terrific as we have all sat there in that paper gown waiting for the doctor forever. I also like the way they allow Veronica to be imperfect. This time Daddy was right, she was wrong. It is so terrific to have the lead not be right in the end. It just makes her character so much more compelling. The downside - one of the few things she looks forward to at school is taken away from her. The doctors office stuff was priceless! Especially returning to that idea in the last shot as her excuse for still being there! The poor abandoned patient still waiting for the doctor. **giggles** Definite downside to the teacher's guilt. Not only as one more thing to make her more cynical about people and trusting or liking them, but also, as you said, one less good thing about a school that has precious few good things. Lola

I wonder if he was a hired bully boy of the Kane security chief who was handy to use as the "murderer" when they needed a fall guy? i actually meant the opposite of the way people have interpreted my comment. instead of him doing the threats, i meant as someone later mentioned - that possibly someone had threatened his family (if he has one) like they threatened veronica's mom. i do agree with later comments, though, that perhaps it was financial incentive instead. or, it could have been a mix of both .

<snip> Definite downside to the teacher's guilt. Not only as one more thing to make her more cynical about people and trusting or liking them, but also, as you said, one less good thing about a school that has precious few good things. i felt a lot of empathy towards veronica by the end of this episode. nearly every time she tries to trust and/or look up to someone, they turn out to not be worth it. it makes the scenes with her dad all the more poignant to me -- he's the one person in her life she's been able to consistently count on.

<snip> So...they're moving toward hooking up Veronica and the deputy? Perhaps he should brush up on his age-of-consent law first (though I've no clue what it really is in California. Still feels vaguely ooky). i agree - i find it vaguely disturbing. perhaps the pairing of this storyline with the teacher storyline was intentional, though, as in: 'how are they similar? how are they dissimilar?'

well, rage was just a quick word choice.I was typing 'fit' and that sounded very un-pc, so I changed it to rage since violence was mentioned in the info Veronica read on tghe chart. I do know something about epilepsy as a member of my family has it unfortunately. Yeah, I didn't mean to sound snarky...I had epilepsy as a child and my sister used to accuse me (later) of all sorts of things I never did while having a seizure.

one note about epilepsy - in most (if not all) states, one's license is (understandably) supposed to be suspended if one has had an epileptic seizure within X amount of time. it's certainly possible that the kanes lied or bribed their way out of this requirement, but i thought i would mention it anyway.

I agree that having Duncan as the killer during a seizure really doesn't fit in with everything else that has happened. Unless Daddy is really twisted. Also joining in the Jason/Logan praise. What an absolutely fantastic job he and the writers have done to take a character I ignored and disliked when the show premiered to creating a character I can't wait to see. Even Duncan is finally getting more interesting to me. And I agree with you and Logan that his mother's method of suicide would be sleeping pills. So if Mommy didn't jump - what was falling off the bridge? Hmmm, and I was more worried about who could have pushed Mommy more than whether it was her jumping or not. I don't know Mama Logan well enough to know if she would jump or not but I think Logan probably did know her well enough and she certainly didn't seem suicidal when she left the school. However, I don't think it's possible to rule out foul play along with speculating whether she faked it all.
