Veronica was both Betty AND Veronica in the episode. Good girl next door and bad rich girl. OR does the title refer to the moms in the episode - Celeste and Veronica's mom? I used to have comics from the 50's.... I like the parallel with Celeste and V's mom. Nice ideas, Karen!

Huh. I should've guessed the Polly snatcher was - since Wallace was so willing to give up his spot for the bird to the one guy who was behind it all. Wallace - "sweetness and purity of spirit." I really like that. Well, we got a lot of answers tonight, and a few more questions. I missed who the rubber tree was delivered to. I hope Veronica's gets her money's worth by paying for her mom's rehabilitation. (hit me - I'm a cynic) Veronica just can't help thinking the worst of Weevil, and although he's no angel, he's also not evil. I was glad to see Veronica's friend (name?) try to reconnect with Veronica. "Maybe we can have our own circle without them." I hope they do. V needs an estrogen friend to talk to. The rubber tree was delivered to the office of the guy who took the surveillance pictures of Veronica and sent them to scare off her mom.

Ya see, that's my biggest problem: If I like a show, I am almost NEVER dissapointed by individual episodes of it: my categories normally run "Liked it a lot!" and "My GOD that was incredibly well-written!" And this one was in the "liked it a lot!" category. So, not dissapointed. But not an episode that would make me want to write my congressman. Oh I agree - and I would defend this episode to someone outside the board to the utmost because always so many, many goodies thrown in any VM episode. But pretty much my reaction also. I think series coming back from a long hiatus - esp. one ending with a strong episode with a cliffhanger have unrealistically high expectations anyway. I know I did.

Huh... Mom WASN'T boffing Jake... Huh, so they have a Mos Eisley spaceport... (Rest stop 15) "Pan Pride" so that's why it's a goat.. Uh oh.. they butched the goat!!!!! Hee!!!! AWESOME!!! WOW she's laying it on thick..... Hee!!! "You wish" Huh, so everyone but Veronica knows about it... Hee!! Knew it would be Eli... Veronica always calls Eli when she needs a bit of muscle. His tattoos were prominently on display, too. But he's not just muscle - as he pointed out to Veronica - and she seems to keep forgetting that. It was good to see Weevil again. Weevil and Wallace - Veronica's right and left hand men.

Okay - interesting episode. It didn't grab me like Russkie Business but still always lots of goodness. Suffering a serious lack of Logan but I remember reading from Rob Thomas' interview that the actors are only contracted for a certain number of episodes so I can understand why he wasn't on. But it was nice to see Wallace and Weevil. Things I liked: Lots of good throw away lines - I liked the Carrie comment esp. I liked the way Veronica was there for Wallace, supporting him. I liked Meg. She knows this whole thing with Duncan is hard for Veronica and yet she is still trying to be a friend. I still don't like Duncan. It was great to see Weevil wasn't it? I knew that wasn't butchered goat - such a classic fake out. Was it just me? I didn't like the way they flashbacked to Veronica's Mom telling the story. I guess I wanted this episode to take up right where Russkie Business left off and go from there. Hmm - need to let it perculate more. Oh, I really liked the flashbacks. It put me into Veronica's head. She just can't help reliving that day with her mom - it keeps grabbing at her. The emotions from Veronica felt quite real to me - her reactions each time she was "thinking" about a different part of the memory and the things that would set off another memory.

Karen, I'm a cynic too. Her mother didn't seem too full of backbone and determination. And I didn't like Veronica accusing Weevil. She should have known he wouldn't do that.

Well, the end of the promo showed XXX looking directly at the camera. XXX was furious; XXX twisted around and picked something up (looked like a thick book but maybe was a metal box), spun and swung full force at the camera. Meaning at the person for who the camera was POV.
Maybe XXX struck someone else or maybe this was a dream or fantasy sequence but on the face of it, it sure looked like Lilly's murder. UPN wouldn't spoil the climax of the whole season by revealing the murderer, would they?
I decided not to name XXX just in case UPN promo-makers are a bunch of lame-brained asshats. Watch it yourself if you dare. That scene is in the last few seconds of the promo.

Huh, so he's NOT the bookie in question.. but I'll bet he knows who is. Oh, Wallace, play the game. "It ain't worth Polly's life" Okay.... She's the "Betty" to Veronica's Veronica... with Duncan as the Archie. And Logan as the Reggie. Wallace is the Jughead. Numbered sneakers? Huh. So he's the bookie.... Good thing he's not a starter, ain't it? Did she just slap Wallace's ass? Who's the "Betty" to Veronica's Veronica? Meg?

I think it was just that. An easy reference, with no hidden message. I was a little disappointed in this episode. The big reveal of her mother wasn't satisfying - her mother is not a sympathetic character to me so far. So if Jake is not Veronica's dad, and her mom isn't sure who IS.... just...ugh. The stuff with Wallace was neat though. I missed Logan. And am I THE most naive person in the world? That little 'marketplace' they had going with all the contraband being sold out of trunks in broad daylight just seemed ...tell me it was over the top, please! I was thinking . . . um, how long has this been happening at the same spot and they haven't been busted yet? Even if they are outside both city's cop jurisdiction, you think the state or highway cops would, um, have a problem with it.

And this one was in the "liked it a lot!" category. So, not dissapointed. But not an episode that would make me want to write my congressman. Yep. I find myself doing the "Buffy thing" of too high expectations all the time. Expecting every episode to live up to the best--or be even better. Not fair. Patti---Allie says Rest Stop 15 was a wee bit over the top -- but her main objection was the timing. NOT at 4 PM she says--kids are at practices and jobs. More like 9 PM---in the dark is even better. [Of course, just about that time she stuck her face just a little too close to Rascal's (the dog) once too often for a 12 year old cranky dog and she (the dog) growled and lunged and nicked Allie's nose and scared her to death. So we missed a few seconds!] Got to watch the end of the Rutgers/UT game. And I may need to rewatch. Very strange juxtaposition of the fairly outlandish Parrot/betting story line with the extreme emotion of the flashbacks to V's mom. Hard to keep adjusting gears. Hi to sunworshipper and artemis and all you regulars.

I dunno: I don't think it's quite the same for me... I mean, it's gotta have some REALLY egregious stuff in it for me to be even semi-dissapointed: but perhaps what I feel of as "I liked it a lot!!" is what you feel as a "semi-dissapointer" in that it didn't knock the socks off your feet and make you wanna slap people at random for no reason.. that it was just "good solid program" rather than "Emmy Cantidate" THIS would be why I never participate in the "rate the episode" polls Sue does: I'd give everything an eight or higher. ;D

Heh.. Wallace as Right-hand because of being dexterous... Eli is Left-hand because he's just a touch sinister..
