Yeah. I saw that scene. I wanted to smack the crap out of Dick for being so cruel. Oh, me, too. The first thing I thought from the look on his face when he opened the door is that the last thing he wanted was to be reminded of Beaver's suicide and then he's faced with Mac. That's why he struck out at her. Oh, that's an excellent way of putting it!

I can't believe Keith didn't look and find it!! I would have! I'm so happy to see all my old VM friends on the screen. Maybe Vinnie's tracer pen will save Keith's life. If he is being tracked? Meanwhile....how did they get the car working again? The radiator overheated and they used the rain to refill it? I got a phone call and missed a few things. A tow truck came and helped them. But, Keith was napping in the back seat, so I don't know if the truck just happened by, or if someone else did and called for them, or what.

maybe his vacation made him soft. i thought it was interesting that liam was a big red herring. i wonder if that's indicative of something wider in the show's narrative. did he kill kendall for the money? she doesn't seem like she would have been stupid enough to leave it available to him without her being alive. is she dead? if so, why did he kill her? me, too! i feel like giving the whole show a big welcome home smooch. For the 8 mil in cash she was toting around? (Remember Beaver's realty company made 8 mil but it was all in Kendall's name? Liam wanted more of it than she was offering. Turned out big brother was siding with Liam, not Kendall. Now he has the cash. Weird that he jumped the gun and shot Kendall while Keith was outside. Giving away the game. Why not wait until both were safely cornered. So, is Kendall really dead? Or is this all a big con game?

Ah, such happiness seeing everyone again! Veronica! Snarking with the dadster! Logan! Vinnie!! Wallace!!!! Yay! Heee - loved the "not piss anyone off this year". Yeah, right. Aaaand in 6 minutes flat, she's broken that idea. "Made any friends?" "Lord, no!" ;D ;D WHY did Keith not check his bag for tracking bugs the second Vinnie played with it? He should know better. Even though Vinnie may actually ride to his rescue because of it. As Vinnie should know better than to hide his bugs in pens with his name on it, but hey, he's Vinnie the Ass-Slapping Hall-and-Oates-Singing-Private Eye, so what can ya expect? And I think (though god knows why) that Kendall's not shotted, but next week will show one way or t'other. **snicker** Great nick name for Vinnie. ;D I definitely think there's more to the whole Kendall story that what we know right now.

Heeeee! "Are you ready to rock?" "Not particularly." What's the deal with freshman year of college having to have a Parker who's . . . um, not too bright and kinda sexually . . . not too bright? "Parker's out somewhere with the unwashed." What a total dick Dick is being. Smooshing poor Mac's feelings like that. And he's totally trashed. Now, Veroinica on the other hand. Is looking smoking hot, I must say. Wallace and Piz and the girl watching and the totally lame hacky sacking? Comic gold! Who's conning who between Keith and Liam's brother? Ah! A picture of . . . . ? Yes! The mystery not-fat girl. Awwwwwwwwww. Logan and room key and smoochies. Drunk Dick. Actually kind of funny drunk Dick. "How long have we known each other? Where is this going Didi?" And Logan steps in to make sure Dick doesn't get killed. He knows what it is to be lost and drinking and . . . and he looks after his friends, even when he knows them to be total assholes.... that scene at the end was heartbreaking: I actually felt sympathy for Dick Casablancas. After the "beard" comment that he made to Mac, too, the assjack. I feel dirty unwashed. ;D You should start a band! And, yes. They made me feel sorry for Dick.

Ladies and Gentlemen - presenting Oh please God let us keep the Gilmore Girls ratings Veronica Mars Lite. So it started with the snark and I applaud VM for thinking outside the box to solve the mystery. Yes she was little snarky and snotty about it but then that's Veronica. Classic Veronica! I love me some snark. Signs that things are off between them, but I also wonder if Fotada's idea that sex roles will be a part of the mystery. **nods** But, unless he was heading over to campus from high school last year, we know he can't be. So, yes - red herring. Frankly, I was always suspicious of George Michael the sweet and smart and somewhat geeky guy who was their tour guide leader last season. But if I think he is the guy, then of course that means he's not. And very clever of the writers to have it be a character we (and Veronica and Mac) have not been sympathetic to. Keeps the story fresh and unexpected. I wonder if they use this plot line to explore that attitude. Like have some of the college be unsympathetic to her because of it and let Veronica just rip them all a new one for that kind of thinking.

1. I hate, with the fiery intensity of a thousand suns, what they did to the theme song. 2. I love Piz already. 3. I want to hurt Dick very much for what he said to Mac, a feeling that was only slightly tempered by his appearance at Logan's door later.

Bringing over what I posted to Spoiled Souls last week: Lucky, Gia’s stalker from last season is the TA in Veronica’s Criminology course!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHH!!! Creep city. OK, well technically, it’s not Lucky, but the same actor, now sporting a goatee and long hair that looks suspiciously like a wig. Oh, I caught that, too! Good make-up job, tho. I don't mind the visual so much as I do how they butchered the song. Yes, the second time I watched the ep, the visuals grew on me. Also, someone on LJ posted screen caps of the credits, and looking at them frame by frame actually helped me appreciate them more. I didn't notice it until I saw the caps, but Logan and Dick are standing in front of a nudie bar (you can see a sign that says, "Girls! Girls! Girls!) and both are handing out what looks like a business card to someone. Implying they're going to be working a case together at some point, perhaps? That would be pretty cool! I don't get this reference. Splainy? That's the shirt Duncan wore at a party last year--remember when Lamb came in and arrested Logan? And then later, when Logan's house burnt down and he stayed with Duncan, Duncan gave him that shirt to wear. There was that great scene where Logan was laying on the couch with a magazine over his face and Veronica layed on top of him, thinking it was Duncan -- because of the shirt.

Okay, I know that Gia's stalker was the t.a. and all that. But was it me or did the criminology professor look a lot like Dick and Cassidy's father? I need to go check on this as well... ETA: Nope, not him. Still cute, though.

For the 8 mil in cash she was toting around? well, what i was trying to say was that it seems like a long-time scam artist like kendall wouldn't have been stupid enough to have all the money just sitting there. is kendall really dead? if it was her he killed. someone else suggested maybe he had killed liam, or someone else - someone that made it essential for him to act immediately.

That was fun, but I don't know if it'll do the trick of bringing in GG viewers.
Shades of Buffy, the amount of back-story makes Veronica Mars a hard sell to the casual viewer. If I had never seen an episode and came in for the first time last night, I'm not sure I could have followed it at all. Especially Keith's sub-plot.
Still, I may be selling the audience short. A new VM viewer would be no more lost than I am after 2 weeks of Heroes.
As for the credits, I'll have to wait and see. My knee-jerk reaction is "Bleeeaggh" because of the draggy theme. It sounds like someone left a Dandy Warhols vinyl album in the rear deck of their car on a sunny day, then tried to play it. (Does anyone remember warped LP's?) I'm willing to give it time, but it didn't work for me last night.

A few more comments re the noir and the rape. In the noir verse, the femme fatales are all sexy, promiscuous and ultimately get their comeuppance. Now VM is taking the male role - she's the tough, hard-boiled detective, with glimmers of softness underneath. And Logan is in the femme fatale role - a role he filled last season by being promiscuous (when they had broken up), sexy, and he got dumped and hurt.
But what is Rob saying about Rape? Veronica has been raped. And it can be argued - Mac has been emotionally raped. So what kind of message is being ultimately sent. All the pretty girls get raped? Their heads are shaved to make them less pretty? To make them not a girl? Hair so clearly defines a woman's prettiness and femininity.
Rape is ultimately about power, not sex though. So I think the key to understanding and solving the mystery is who is seeking power over women? Who is reducing women to the level of men - no sexuality, no femininity?
Not sure where I'm going here. I like Fotada's idea that sex role reversals might play into this. I should probably rewatch last seasons Rapes of Graff as I imagine there are alot of clues in there.

Parker: I really liked her. She reminded me of Audrey from Dawson's Creek with her exuberant personality. I hope the message wasn't given that Parker was sort of slutty and thus this equals more likely to be raped. I hope that's not the message. Because I really like her and all her lines. Okay, I'm going to be really un-PC here and you guys are welcome to totally disagree and indeed jump all over me, but: Being.....slutty?, loose?, promiscuous? (is there a non-perjorative word for bed-hopping?) does not make a girl more deserving (heaven forbid, nothing makes some "deserving") of rape. But more likely?....... possibly. If you are not engaging in sex at all you can certainly still be raped. And certainly you could be drugged and raped. I knew that even without season one of VM. Still with the but....if you are randomly going off to bed with guys you literally JUST met and knownothing whatsoever about are you not opening the door of opportunity for something unpleasant to be more likely to happen than someone who is more discreet with her favors (i.e. actually gets to know the guy, observes how he interacts with others, treats you as a human, etc.) Sure, that's no guarantee. And no I don't think Parker was "asking for it." But I'm still saying that such behavior yes does, in fact, potentially increase the possibility of a bad outcome. (Altho not necessarily rape.) The guy who is doing these rapes.............why should he work harder to go after some girl who won't give him the time of day if some other girl is going to make it easy on him? Did I make my thought clear? Notice I had to edit this to say "NOT engaging in sex at all" in case you read it before my edit.

Some activities carry more risk of bad things happening than others.

The guy who is doing these rapes.............why should he work harder to go after some girl who won't give him the time of day if some other girl is going to make it easy on him?. and given that the other victim we saw pre-being-raped was very drunk the night she was raped, it seems like the campus rapist is specifically picking people that he sees as "easy targets".
