Oops. Checked Part 27 again. Diane's post to me concerned my post about the salon.com article, all on Part 27. It was #400-something, in the 470's maybe. But I remember putting paragraph breaks in that post before posting it, too... I could have sworn that I also wrote a long post about my impressions of the episode, but I can't find it anywhere, not even on the Episodes board...Must be mind-control by the First...Nasty Firsts. We hates them, we hates them forever!

Spring, this was a really beautiful post. I may have said previously on this board that I find the crypt door scene from Dead Things to be one of the most powerful in the history of television, and one that sums up the B/S relationship so well. "- and the barriers are all self made..." (Yeah, I like big statements! :-) ) And, you know, I never really noticed Buffy's gloves before. It's little things like that that make me love going to boards and reading notes from others - the things they catch and note that I missed or didn't look at in the same way.
I've only read a few of your ep analyses so far - now I want to run over and read the rest, too.
Thanks again.
Mary

Unless you enter the code for a paragraph break (and I can't remember for the life of me what it is), ScoopMe ignores a single hard-return and will turn your entire post into one long paragraph. It really bites when posting song lyrics and you can't remember that stupid code.
That's why we generally type two hard-returns, like I just did, to seperate paragraphs. ScoopMe recognizes that.

Where does Riley fit in? Such a good question.
You know - I see him as a transition guy, and as Buffy's last try at being a "normal girl." In Season 4, she seems to be trying to hang on to childhood and to the idea that somehow, someway, she can be a normal girl.
But life is pushing her toward growing up, and toward realizing that she is not, and can never be, a "normal" girl with a normal life.
Once I get through analyzing the eps with Riley in them, I may come up with a better answer. I confess the Riley relationship didn't grab me in any way, so I didn't pay as much attention or notice as much about it, as I did with Angel or Spike.

Nan, it was a great post, and I almost moved it myself, but fortunately realized that's not my place. Anyway, as usual, you said really smart things really well. Many silent cheers went up from my mind.
To read makes my speaking English good...

I've seen quite a few posts on whether or not folks overreacted about Ellie's post or Ellie overreacted about the response she got.
This is one discussion I think I'll just stay out of. I'll be over here, playing with my dog. He says hi, by the way.
Good doggie. Nice doggie. You little Sh**head, you...
I meant the dog. Honest. The dog. I meant HIM. Really. Dog.

Spring said: 'Lee - top ten Buffy moments and NOT A ONE OF THEM involves Spike? And what . . . 4 of them involve Angel?'
Yeah, it was written by a B/A person obviously. :-) No, I agreed with several of them, but it was almost like the person had stopped really watching after the first 3 seasons - but had heard of 'Hush' and 'OMWF'.

Paragraph break code is "<," then "BR", then ">."
If I substitute "[" for "<," it will look like this " ".

Sue, I posted in response to Hunter's review as well, and responded to your post also. I recommend everyone who needs a good cry (like we haven't had plenty already) should go read his review and take kleenex with them.

Mary, on the gloved hand, I couldn't help but notice, on an FX rerun, how Buffy makes a point of removing her glove to stroke Angel's vamp face (when they are on the ice, and he has cut his brow).
So, that's nother example of directly opposing images for Angel & Spike. By the time Buffy gets to her relationship with Spike, she is no longer the open, trusting child she was with Angel. Life and its traumas have changed her and made her much, much, more cautious. She is all closed off.
At it's core, this change in Buffy is not about Spike or her feelings for Spike, but about her experiences and the fears they have instilled in her.

Spike AND Angel lips...not a bad thought. Ok, yes, a BAD thought, but not a crummy one.
crummy...can I have a cookie, Lee?

It's funny, I think that we (Buffy fans in general) had all seen Riley as so boring, it was hard to analyze his relationship with Buffy (although there was a great opinion on him on slayage.com a few months ago). But in relation to what you wrote me, maybe he's the balance between Angel and Spike, but Buffy can't have balance (wow, that was so not intelligent, but hey, I'm exhausted).

Anne said: 'after last week's comfy chair'
That was a Monty Python reference? our living room had a comfy chair years before Monty Python was around...(stop counting, people!) So...Spike was actually referring to me.
