Great quote from Roger Ebert: I believe that if, at the end of it all, according to our abilities, we have done something to make others a little happier, and something to make ourselves a little happier, that is about the best we can do. To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try. I didn't always know this, and am happy I lived long enough to find it out.
From this excellent Esquire piece on Ebert. He's pretty damn great. Here is his response to the article: blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2010/02/roger_eberts_last_words_cont.html

From the comments: "This sounds great, worried about the "supergeeks" though. Wish one of the 3 was a normal fan." Define "normal;" define "normal fan;" define "normal fan who attends ComicCon." Besides, I don't think the point of the doc is to follow "normal" fans -- it's about the supergeeks." Exactly. Though I can see why fans would be a bit skittish about being portrayed as wild-eyed crazies. I'm hoping Joss will make sure that it shows a good balance.

Hey, those of you who watched Olympic Opening Ceremonies, how was it? Is it worth trying to track down and watch a recording of it. I've got it recorded on my dvr but have yet to watch it.

From this excellent Esquire piece on Ebert. YES, THIS. This is what I've slowly been realizing ever since my dad took a turn for the worst last year. One good thing that came out of all of that was it really got me to thinking about how I'm living and what's the point of everything. And this is what I've come up with. Thanks for posting this, Sara.

I discovered that the shoes were available through REI, even though they weren't through the website or the store in Knoxville (go figure). But the important thing is that they're on their way. Yay!

So, he has clothes on because it was a surprise!shower. And if there is a god then no, he has no pants on.

MATTHEW!
Thank you for putting me onto strap wrenches - I bought a couple at Sears today, and managed to open a jar of beets without, for the first time ever, spattering myself.

You are probably going to get a lot of attention when wearing them. They are so different. I hear that they are also super comfortable. My middle child would love them - he lives in flipflops, which are no good for your feet (the flimsy ones, anyway). Are they something that alot of your co-med students are wearing? We had a young guy wear them to the office. Not exactly corporate attire, even though we are pretty casual in this office. Jeans are the norm. I know of at least 2-3 of my classmates who wear them. Obviously I can't wear them when the dress is business professional, like today, but regular days should be OK. Not sure if they would be acceptable on rotations, but if not then, I'll just wear them whenever I can. The first thing that happens when I get home at night is that the shoes come OFF. If there's a shoe that simulates being barefeeted, I wants 'em.
