Yes, today is the day. *hugs and good vibes to Shan* Anne - have you heard anything yet from your doctor? Sorry if you posted and I missed it. Good morning, S'cubies! 'Sprung from Spike's pants'......a very nice memory! Although I wasn't involved in the actual kefuffle at the time it happened, I happened to be reading some of the posts made on the Scoop Me Board, and posted a few posts at that time and was invited to the S3 by Spring. Thank, babe. I am forever in your debt. Nothing from the doctor, but she said it'd be at least a week before the biopsy results come back. My neck is less sore, but still bruised. Mostly I'm trying not to think about it. You know, if I was going to get my neck mangled, it's too bad it couldn't be a cute British vampire instead. Hee! But you do have a ready-made Halloween costume. *sends good vibes and thoughts to you*

That's a whole lot of construction, there, not to mention the braiding... Julia, sufficient to give me the willies, that. From scratch, or "just" alterations. [Sewing is a dying art, truly. My mother made a ton of our dresses (Easter, prom, bridesmaid, etc), suits, all of our curtains, dozens and dozens (3 sets) of doll clothes for Shirley Temple dolls and later even some Barbie clothes for my youngest sister, lined coats. I, of course, took sewing in high school Home Ec and made a number of "granny" dresses in the 70's. Nearly all of the curtains in 3 different houses. We purchases a sewing machine as one of those "essential" appliances like a refrigerator or oven (ahead of a TV or microwave, when they were invented). Being bright kids I guess all 3 of them could figure out how to sew on a button, but not much beyond that. Fortunately, the need to hem everything to within 1/2" of whatever current fashion/fad dictates is the "right" hem length as gone the way of girdles and beehives. Not just for dresses and skirts but even pants -- they can be worn any length from below the knee to 3 inches too long and either rolled up or dragging. And when it's absolutely necessary I know Carolyn just takes things to an alter-er (tailor?) Neither of them will ever own a sewing machine and the P(H)FDIL (Potential (Hopefully) Future DIL) is even more career oriented, less 50's housewifely. So, yay for grandmothers who can still sew! My experience with sewing is much the same as yours. I miss creating the Halloween costumes. I have misplaced my portable machine - I think I loaned it to my niece, but she says she gave it back. I don't think I would remember how to load a bobbin anyway.

True it is a dying art, but there is hope! There has actually been a resurgence in the last several years in interest in the fiber arts. Whether we're talking about sewing, spinning, weaving knitting or crochet. I think it has a bit to do with the ecoomy being on the downslope. Teens (and parents) are starting to reuse and/or repurpose clothing and fabric. I know of several schools that run after school or voluntary sewing clubs that will do alterations for free for students. Project Runway has also helped spark and revitalize interest in homemade or home sewn gowns and clothing. It seems now a days there is not quite the same degree of shame in admitting that you (or your mom, dad, grandma, or insert important person here) made your halloween costume or prom dress that was there when I was in school. I was the subject of a lot of teasing and ridicule when I mentioned my Prom dresses were made by my mom, but I honestly think they were the best looking dresses there. You can't beat a dress or outfit that is properly fitted! Now a days the "Home arts" or fiber arts are becoming more in demand. I know I get a lot of people asking me to make and or market my hobbies. I've made several wedding outfits for friends and of course my own. I think people are moving towards wanting something that is well made that might cost a bit more than something that is cheap in every sense of the word. Which all means that we may see our children and grandchildren rediscovering these lost arts!

Start planning your story immediately, in case you do have to walk around for awhile with a bandage on your neck. I mean, think of the fun of telling a story of sexy vampire encounters instead of the usual "medical procedure" story. I like it.

Apropos of nothing (except maybe Spike's pants)... I am loving my new Levis which fit without showing muffin top and are just the right tightness ... and the best part? I got them for $7.99 - 5% at the Goodwill. Score! Win!
