Visited my mom. Not as bad as I expected. On the other hand, if she doesn't call the credit union and get some money transferred to her bank checking account THIS WEEK, she risks bouncing checks within the next few weeks. Knowing my mom, on Monday afternoon she'll ask me to call the credit union and ask them what she has to ask for, then expect me to call her back and tell her what to do, then keep putting it off... She's already done that. I told her that they probably wouldn't even talk to me, and if she expects me to do things like that I need power of attorney and full control over her finances, because nobody's going to talk to somebody whose name isn't on the account. Today I told her what to say, again, and I wrote it down for her, and I even calculated sort of what I thought the appropriate amount for the next year was, based on her income and expenses over the last nine months, averaged and multiplied by twelve. She's got about another year after that before she runs out of money. Unfortunately, with her massive physical limitations, a nursing home is completely unaffordable, so I don't know what we'll do in two years when she's broke. She can't live with us, there's no room, and I am not moving back up there again, not even for a few days. Ratbag at one point said mom could move in with them, but Useless doesn't seem too thrilled, and I suspect it was just one of those ploys to make Ratbag look good without any effort, anyway. My head hurts, my stomach hurts, and I just don't know what to do. **sends best wishes for a less hurty Anne** As far as nursing facility or care goes, look into the Medicaid eligibility rules for your state.

Thanks, Lola. I'm more hurty and achy, but it's from moving furniture and stuff, and things were accomplished, so that's okay. Yes, Medicaid will be something to look into when she runs out of money. I think she's good for another two years at least by my estimates, but of course I have to worry about the future... Also, she promised to call the CU first thing tomorrow. I guess I'll find out what happened when she calls me tomorrow afternoon for the usual chat (and she says I don't sit around and talk to her enough ). Oh, I just remembered, this is kind of funny - Emma's been trying to track down the phone number of an old buddy of theirs from the antique camera club. I tried the google, but had no luck, so we assumed, sadly, that he was no more, and we gave up. Last week, Frisky knocked down her address book and all the loose bits of paper fell out, and when she picked them up, the guy's name was on a bit on top of the pile. So she tried calling, and he answered. He's advised her to wait until next year to try selling the camera collection, but he knows some guys, and he wants to come over and visit anyway. So that was nice.

Hey, watching Burn Notice on On Demand and caught a promo for Fairly Legal, starring Sarah Shahi, who was one of the best things about Life. Sounds cool, it does.
Julia, I guess those are magical sunglasses, eh?

Julia, I guess those are magical sunglasses, eh? I kept trying to place her. Thanks. And it's also got that BSG guy in it: Michael Trucco. I"m reading "Side Jobs" which is a book of Harry Dresden short stories by Jim Butcher. In one of his earliest written stories he has a villain sneeringly call Harry's (short, blond, female) cop friend "Buffy." And at the end of the story (I already forget the circumstances) she tells him he has "fruit punch mouth." Really, Butcher is a wonderful writer. And the occasional comedic moments are not all that many but done well. Instead of Dresden being done by SciFi it would have been fantastico if Butcher had teamed up with Joss and shopped it to USA network. Harry is the definition of "characters welcome."

We missed DVRing yesterday's episode of "Sherlock." I can't find it being repeated at all -- can any of you?
Only 3 episodes total?

From where I sit in my front room I can see a bit of the kitchen and a bit of the hall. I keep on thinking I see something moving and then not seeing anything when I look. So now I'm trying to decide if there's secretly a big spider or something or if it's just me.

I watched the first ep online; they were offering it on the site. I have missed the other two, so if you do find it - repeated or online- let me know.

My last flat had an invisible mouse. I thought there was a mouse, so I got a mousetrap, and when I finally caught it it was the exact color of the living room carpet. So after that I never knew if there was actual mouse or just carpet out the corner of my eye. I moved.

Today's indication it's Monday: accidentally put my toast down twice, so it's on the very, uh, brunette side.
Julia, much to do, oh dear me, busy day ahead.

Hey ho, all! Very fun weekend, with our first real snow of the season, (not just tiny flakelets and so on), even if the rather largeness of the snow meant I ended up not getting to my concert Saturday night. (The friend I was going with lost her power for most of the day and then, just when it - and therefore her heat - came back, the plows went by and covered up the bottom of her drive, just a half-an-hour before it was time to leave. We took this as a sign that the evening was not to be! ) Since I own no car to dig out and someone else shovels my sidewalk, I was able to just thoroughly enjoy the snow fun! Walks in the snowy fluff! Snow-people all over! Sledding! Woo hoo!! Saturday's snow was sooooooo wet (it hasn't technically been below freezing, just in the low 30's) and came down sooooo thick and fast! Here's a pic of my front yard yesterday (and keep in mind, there was not a hint of snow there the day before - heck, it was in the high 60's just a few days before). <snip> Now, just for fun, some snow-people! Here's a smallish one that my next-door neighbor made . . . <snip> Here's a sweet couple that I passed on my walk 'round the neighborhood today (notice how much has melted since the day before): <snip> And here's an absolutely adorable teeny tiny one that I also passed on my walk today: <snip> Ain't they all just too cute? ;D Aw man, I'm so jealous. I never think as much about it until winter, but seeing pictures like this just reminds me of all the snow that I'm not getting.
