that wavey dude is happier than I am. my new computer arrived but it is Windows 7; now I can't get it to DO things. and I can't make it have my emails in it. And that's about all I've tried to make it do yet. I emailed the dude that sold it to me. I can install Thunderbird and Firefox, I just can't find it all on my old hard drive or figure out how to make the new computer copy those bits and use them. I thought I'd asked him to make sure that bit worked. I'm sure it's a very shiny computer once I've figured it out, I'll just be a while figuring it out. Why can't things keep on working exactly the same? It's not like I've been asking it to do more or new or extra things since I got my first computer. Read my emails, write my essays. Ah the joys and pleasures of new technology. New computers are a bitca to adjust to. Hell, I can't even get my IPod to connect to Safari. Diane *techno-grump*

Had a normal doc appointment yesterday but my temp was 99F which since basal is about 96.5 was sort of an explaination for how crummy I was feeling, so I'm taking the day easy.
Julia, although I need to undress the Christmas tree and get it out of the house, et'c.

I never watched it either, but I love that he can poke fun at himself! CO is good! One thing I notice is that people from this area are really proud of where they live. And I see lots of signs everywhere touting Colorado, or the city, or the local sports team. I don't know if I remember seeing that much...boasting...for want of a better word...when I lived in Michigan. But maybe I just didn't notice it, because it was part of the scenery. Michigan has it's "Pure Michigan" campaign, with commercials narrated by Tim Allen, but that's about it. But in the Boulder & Denver area, print and radio ads often bring up how healthy people are here, how pretty the area is, etc. It's nice, but it also seems a little over the top at times. Has anyone else ever noticed this in either their home town or in some other area they visited? Heh. That was going on when I lived there as a kid. Maybe we all get high from the lack of oxygen at a mile above sea level, and fall hopelessly in love with Colorado... The more cynical side says: "Yeah, but Rocky Flat Nuclear Power Plant, Lockheed-Martin...but wait, look over there! Pretty mountain!" (That's what happens when I spend hours reading about branding and watching promos and reading about business practices.) So it's not just me that noticed that then. Coolio. I love your insights, Erin.

The de-decorating continues. Only the tree left, really --- and all of Jim's bulb trees which take up more space than anything. Hundreds of bulbs all told I believe. We need to start giving them away. Although, I confess to adding to the insanity by buying him more "toppers" this year. Paperwork today and out tomorrow: errands, hair, returns. So the tree waits until the weekend.

I am glad I have one very small tree and only used about a third of the ornaments; that's still more than my energy levels are really up to.
Julia, and yet I feel infinitely mlre rested than at any time that Franklin was in the first month of his surgery.

Although the room in the picture is now Jim's "study" with the loveseat and 2 endtables from the ex-living room, a desk from Tom's room, a leather chair, painted a very pale green, no chair rails, no window treatments yet, totally different light fixture and art, no china closet. Not the same room at all. Rug is now in guest room.
The table full of ornament trees (sometimes referred to as "Jim's balls") is now in what used to be the living room. We are as yet undecided about whether the room switch will continue after the holidays are packed away. It worked well for eating with large groups but I didn't like having the tree in the dining room. Might have to find a new location next year (after 22 years in the same corner).

And one more from the RSG:
Your mother was a towel and your father smelled of metal detectors.

We must film a new S'cubie produced, written and directed dramedy for cable TV: "My Mother the Towel" -- each week the towel guest stars on different naked body.....and slips lower and lower until the season ender/cliffhanger. It will air on Wednesday, of course. Suggest weekly guest actors and actresses. [Bribes accepted to appoint you casting couch coach.] Supporting cast includes hand-towels, wash-cloths, soap-suds, water, etc.

So is anybody excited about this new show on TNT, Falling Skies headed by by Spielberg starring Noah Wylie? (link goes to promo video, although my 58 year old eyes and brain aren't MTV trained so the scenes that are dark and last a fraction of a second tell me nothing) Seems like it all depends on whether the writers have a fresh approach and are talented at dialogue; and the character development. [Yeah, I don't ask much.] And please, develop the plots and characters over time. Don't through mega-mythology at us in the first 3 episodes.
