Immediately after I sent the last of my relatives off, I hopped on a plane my own self and went to San Francisco for a conference. I just got back last night. It was really great--I've never been to that city before. I went with a few co-workers, so it was nice to have others to do touristy things with after hours. We went to Chinatown one night, and another night took the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf and ate at Buena Vista Cafe, which is known for inventing (or re-inventing?) the Irish Coffee. Of course I had to sample one! We also went to an Irish pub and while I am not a fan of Guiness, I did have some hard cider. Yum! The city is a busy, lively place, and a lot of fun to visit. The conference was very informative, and gave me a lot to think about. I am ready for some down time though! P.S. Sue, I loved your Patti-itis!

AND I winnowed my inbox down to one page (25) -- which I haven't accomplished in months!
The upside of a slightly twisted ankle (although how it got twisted between 11 pm and 3 am when I was in bed alone I haven't figured out.)

Well, I may have jumped the gun on that one. I think she said she might be certified by Monday .... so I'm being slightly psychic.

I have a little secret. You all know about the emotional devastation I've endured following the loss of my husband Ian. It was a secret from nearly everyone else. You've seen how terrified I was to "out" myself and how it's helped me now that I finally did. A couple of weeks ago I met someone. A nice someone. A someone who has endured the same things I have and who understands the occasional meltdown because he has them too. A someone who thinks he's found a miracle in ME. We are so perfectly matched in likes, dislikes, taste, outlook, recreational choices--even Buffy! So much so we're beginning to think our late spouses got together in the afterlife and decided to set us up. We spent nearly the whole weekend together, most of Saturday and all day Sunday. I met his family. He met Beth (the only one there at the time). His family likes me. She liked him. Anticipation, how I've missed you. Ah, so great, Diane. Let yourself enjoy. I applaud you:

We don't like root canals. Erin is glad she doesn't have to have one from her cousin the dentist. Nice horse pic, Sara! Spring's Vince was an amazing and original person. Video of a Polish gymnast. Taxes. Ya DON'T gotta love 'em. But ya DO gotta pay 'em. Anne bought new walking shoes. Funny owl picture. And THEN we come to Monnie's con reports. I think those deserve a response of their own. I am enjoying your tear through the thread! Keep 'em comin'.

Glad you are feeling better. That sounds like windy PLUS. Hope your niece's flight wasn't too turbulent. Thanks for the good wishes. Guess what? I had my last interview for the fostering today! I should be certified by Monday! OMG. Now I've gone and done it. And then the adoption team has to interview me (just once) so I can get certified for that, too, in case I should get to a place where I want to adopt. Yo, boy. Neat!! Let us know how it goes! This is all so....so...HUGE! I know! It is huge. Didn't hear from Children Services today, which I don't know if it means my certification went through as predicted, or there is a delay. I have to email her tomorrow anyhow, so I will double check that I have it. The upstairs is almost completely ready. I even bought some soap and toothpaste and such for the bathroom.

Well, now I have filed all my loose papers too. So, all in all a somewhat freakishly productive day. Don't hate me, they only occur about once every other month. Combination of Jim being gone the better part of 2 weeks; the upswing after treatments, semi-immobility and some chores that hit the tipping point. Hopefully tomorrow I will be mobile enough to do some errands out but if not then I'm going to tackle organizing the medical receipts to date: matching up EOBs with bills; going thru the FSA records and what-not. Accumulating quite a stack as you might imagine. And I guess even I can get over-saturated with old House Hunter reruns. I think I know some of those couples by name.

Anybody here care about the Royal Wedding? Kinda sorta maybe, as in I won't go out of my way to watch, but I won't cross the street to avoid the coverage either. On the other hand, Paul's taking a couple of vacation days so he can stay up and watch it.
