*sigh* Wiped out at the market...a random piece of pineapple on the floor, so obviously my foot had to find it. I'm OK, but they called a manager over and made a big fuss, which is kind, but makes me even more embarrassed.

Management fuss no doubt over the fear of a lawsuit, so S.O.P. Doesn't make up for the embarrassment, however. They couldn't do things quietly? Silly store management.

Was sick all day yesterday, not feeling so awefully spiffing right now- trying to puke up the soles of your feet has some pain in the aftermath. Julia, it was a disgusting day all around. Oh, poor budgie! and I hope you are feeling better by now, or if not, very soon. Today I did laundry and the grocery shopping, ventured into Home Despot to buy Aged Mum a surprise little electric space heater (it was oddly deserted at 7:55AM), then Husband and I drove down to Costa Mesa. It was an adventure, of the traffic sort - there was a cryptic warning on the lightup Caltrans sign about a closed exit on the 55, then the traffic came to an abrupt stop, so we got off the freeway and went surface streets, which had crazy drivers and construction. The radio traffic news insisted that there was nothing in OC, nothing at all, traffic was flowing freely. Yeah. Right. On the way home on the 57, there was a cryptic message about the right lane being closed at Yorba Linda. It wasn't, it was closed just before Imperial. What the sign didn't mention, and nothing mentioned while there was still time to get off the freeway, was that the Imperial exit was closed. For planned construction, all day, from the look of it. So there we were, at noon, stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic with a bunch of people frantically trying to get off at the next exit, which was backed up all the way to the closed exit, two lanes'-worth of traffic... We went all the way up to Tonner Canyon, got off there and came back via the scenic route. At least we were able to find parking at the pho place, and a table, although they seemed to have drafted the family nitwit to wait tables and our order got a bit messed up. But we had lunch, late, and I found more paperback Kinsey Millhones for Aged Mum at the used bookstore in Orange, and a hardback copy of Deerskin for me and a replacement for our copy of D is for Disappeared Deadbeat, which is nowhere to be found. I got all my outside chores done yesterday- slowly, feebly, while wearing a jumper, because my stomach and back hurt that much- and got the Christmas tree in the house and draped in lights and with a few (OK: the star, three angels) decorations on. And that feels like way too much. Franklin went to bed at 6am, got up at 11am, got a haircut and drove Bailey to Seatac and then went to pick up Sam in Ellensburg (two and a half hours, over a 3500 ft mountain pass). Anna's having her internet installed at this very moment at her new, veryl arge, rather old apartment. She'll be home soon to help with chores and do the Christmas Eve cooking. Julia, rather run down, as by bus

I sure hope so. It would be difficult, what with the character deaths and all, but hey, if we can find out Book's backstory I'd sure love it. I think it would be better to pick up from where the movie ended. Joss killed them off--leave them that way. They can come back in flashbacks, but I'd rather move forward with, maybe new characters being introduced.

I hope it does too. Daughter and all but one grandchild are in Cali. Lan and the tadpole are here, but she hasn't responded to my texts and emails so I don't know what they're doing. I'm Christmasing with Bob's family.

Two years ago I wiped out in Lowe's parking lot and re-broke a bone in my foot that had just barely healed. They sent me a two hundred dollar check for my "inconvenience".

No, apparently they can't. Two years ago I wiped out in Lowe's parking lot and re-broke a bone in my foot that had just barely healed. They sent me a two hundred dollar check for my "inconvenience". Exactly. And, to be fair, they were very nice and thoughtful. I just have a low threshold for embarrassment, and when I fall, I get mad at myself and would prefer to have everyone around me pretend they didn't see it. To be even fairer, the store's response was miles better than the CTA's was in Chicago. I can't remember if I told you guys this story, but way back in February 1997 I slipped on the platform and got my leg caught between the train and the platform. The driver (who was right above me), didn't even notice and started the train. Luckily someone did notice and got him to stop, but once I was safe the train just left.

Timing is everything... Poor Kitty's got the punctual blues, as of last night. I had to do an emergency load of wash this morning, and she's already had to change her sweatpants once today. And tomorrow we'll be up at Aged Mum's all morning and afternoon. Maybe she'll be over the worst by then.
Being female sucks, sometimes.
ETA: This afternoon, K, having watched all the Fringe there is, has, on my recommendation, started Chuck. She likes it so far; there were giggles. When she finishes all the DVDs, she'll have to wait until S5 comes out because we aren't DVRing it this season, but them's the breaks.
I have hopes of talking her into trying Leverage next. Of course there's the Doctor Who Christmas special tomorrow evening, which should keep her happy for a bit.
