We will be driving to Aged Mum's around 10AM and hope to start cooking immediately so we can serve a late lunch - ham, rolls, a couple of interesting side dishes from TJs, and probably Paul's lemon sauce and baked apples, if he gets to cooking tonight. Also cookies. As usual, we're providing all the food, and paying for it, but if we don't do it, there won't be a family meal, so *shrugs*. My sister and BiL are having their usual "problems"; this time it's a cat that has to be fed every four hours, so only one of them can leave the house at a time. Anyway, according to BiL, my sister is supposed to show up at Aged Mum's sometime tomorrow. I emailed him back with the schedule; if she shows up by 1PM, she gets to eat lunch with us. If she's late, we'll make sure to leave some leftovers there for her. I will probably hide some for Aged Mum, as my sister will eat everything in sight, especially if someone else is paying. While I hope for Aged Mum's sake that my sister does make it up there, I'd really rather not deal with her if I can avoid her, as she has no sense of others' personal space, affects a voice and wiggle that I think she must think is sexy, but which reminds me of Betty Boop (and I'm being kind), and is far too fond of telling other people what they're doing wrong and how she knows better. I may have to go for a walk, or several walks, to keep from doing something that might distress my mother. Wish me luck, it's going to be a long, long day, especially as Aged Mum already has a list of chores for me that will take longer than we'll be there, even if I don't stop to eat. ETA: I'm going to tell Aged Mum to pick one thing, ONE THING, off her list of chores, and I'll try to get that done. After that, I'm going up to the attic to pick myself a gift from the boxes of junk, as she said I should. I already know this won't be fun and I can't please anybody no matter how hard I try, so I might as well make things as easy for myself as I can.

Merry Christmas, everybody!
I've been spending the weekend sleeping and doing nothing else useful, which is just what I needed. My parents were going to come up and see me, but then they decided to come up next weekend instead. The education coordinator here has invited those of us who are around to Christmas dinner with her family, so that should be fun.

Christmas got uncancelled. We all had food and the tree was sparkly. Win Merry Christmas, happy holidays, or have a nice day, as applicable.

Christmas got uncancelled. We all had food and the tree was sparkly. Win Merry Christmas, happy holidays, or have a nice day, as applicable. The same to you, my dear! I had almost no sleep last night, woke with digestive issues, and Patches presented me with not one, but two lovely barfs to clean up first thing in the morning, so the day was not off to an auspicious start. However, there were many nice presents given and received, including but not confined to the Lego starter set I'd mentioned to the Husband, and a lovely soft plushy 60x80 throw with a big tiger face on it from the Elder Daughter that went right on our bed, and a cranberry blown glass teapot ornament from the Younger Daughter that went right on the tree. Both daughters wore their new t-shirts today. Then we loaded up the car and drove to Aged Mum's. I was unable to accomplish the minor task, as it turned out she'd given me totally inaccurate information about the replacement buttons she needed (seriously, she'd said ¼ ball when it needed ½" flat). I took one of the remaining buttons and stuck it in a baggie with a note as to how many were needed. I got Elder Daughter to help with the major task, boxing up books. Then I went up to the attic and looked at things, and found a pretty cigar box (full of bits and pieces of tortoise and turtle shells) and a vintage film canister (full of 60s and 70s vintage campaign badges) and an interesting little box made of some kind of curly wood, which were my gifts from my mom. ETA: I've decided that the little box should live with the strange flat round box apparently made from the same curly maple (?) which my mom gave to the Husband. The round box came down from my dad's family; I'm guessing the little box was from the same source. Caregiver Bene's husband arrived with gifts for Aged Mum, so we urged him to stay for lunch, and just as I was helping Bene clean up, BiL called to let us know that Ratbag was just leaving and should be there in three hours or so. Oh, isn't that sad, we couldn't wait for her to show up . Ratbag may be staying with Aged Mum for a few days; I hope so, it'd be good for both of them. The drive home was... interesting. There was heavy traffic, and then the brakes started not working very well, Husband discovered he'd left the parking brake on , but the brakes continued not to work well, there were clumps of heavy traffic, and all in all it was a rather tense trip back. The brakes were starting to work better by the time we hit Brea, but the car is going to our mechanic tomorrow if he's open, or Tuesday at the latest. Which rather messes with my schedule for the week, but I am not driving with wonky brakes either. Happy Holidays, S'cubies

Still on outs with The Son, so when the older Grandspawn said they were going to his house on Xmas, I said nothing other than wishing them a great day.
The Daughter and the younger Grandspawn are in Cali, but everyone (except The Son) called.
The day at the Out-laws was pleasant enough. The only problem is the hyper Bob Grandspawnette, Katheryn, age 7. She suffers from Hyper Maddi-ism a hopefully rare condition of motormouthism that requires the patient to rattle on endlessly about nothing at all peppered with endless repetitions of the phrase "Guess what?" usually uttered in an eardrum shattering shriek.
Thankfully her parents and grandfather have as little patience for it as I have and she is routinely encouraged to give it a rest.
Gifts were exchanged, wassails were wasseled, jokes were told, roast beasts were consumed. I think a good time was had by all--even the Grandspawnette who made out like a bandit.

I've been up since 5:20. I have to do laundry today, and I was hoping to get enough done to start the dryer before the Husband wants his bath. I just discovered that I forgot to close the lid of the washer after I started the first load. The washer doesn't spin when the lid is up (which is a good thing), it just cycles water in and out. So that load isn't really clean, and I had to start all over again. Forty minutes, shot to heck. I Я Dum.

I called our mechanic, and he is open today. Now if I can just get the Husband out of bed before noon, so he can drive my car over there early enough to get it fixed (he'd rather I didn't, with the brakes being unreliable), I might be able to carry on with my original schedule for the week.
If not, well, I wasn't sure I wanted to go on the family trip on Wednesday anyway.
*exercising cautious optimism*
