Car is at mechanic. Brakes need $246-worth of work. I suspect that the driving with the parking brake on accelerated the wear, but they would've needed new pads etc shortly anyway.
Elder Daughter and I walked to the shopping center for necessary groceries. I'll get to TJs tomorrow sometime, maybe after I take Younger Daughter book-shopping.
The more I think about it, the more I think I'd be better off staying home by myself on Wednesday while the rest of the family goes to the aquarium. It's a long drive, so I'd have at least four hours to myself, and I need some quiet me-time, even if all I do is listen to NPR and read mysteries or sort stuff in my little room.

Did I say Merry Christmas? Probably not; I'm having the sick-Christmas do-what-I-can-and-what-I-must and socializing is getting pushed down the list.
Now I must go buy chicken feed.
Julia, also pellet bedding and a lick-tank for the bull

My sister is in Altadena, and so far, behaving herself pretty well.
The car is back from the mechanic, Husband drove to Home Despot and he says the brakes are all perfect again. He did ask about driving with the parking brake on, and yes, his doing that did crack the brake shoes, but the brakes were close to needing new pads anyway, so it wasn't as bad as it could've been. The estimate was a bit high; it only (only!) cost $237. I *heart* my mechanic.
Husband is making soup with the bone from the holiday lunch ham.
Yesterday I ordered two short-sleeved nighties from Lands' End because Husband couldn't find anything of the sort to give me. He bought me two size-large men's t-shirts, which would make lovely nighties if they were four inches longer. But they aren't, so I'll use them as shirts.
*exercising cautious optimism*

The opening shot in what I trust will be a fusillade of medium white eggs. I suspect this is as a result of the presence of L. Frank Baum On the Hamburgs... in the house. They deserve proper respect, my small ladies.

Going to try getting my nails done again. Failure today is not an option. Back to work tomorrow . I would take the full two weeks off, but Bob and I want to attend Clockwork Con in Austin in January. I'll need those two vacation days for that, so sacrifices must be made. Costumes are well underway. Bob's needed lessons how to get me into it. Pictures may follow.

Hey ho, all! Hope you all had a lovely holiday time. I am much much muchly squeeful because of the present I got from my sister. She had wanted to get me something "fandom-ish", and was just generally looking around when she found her way (via the California Browncoats and CastleCon 2011) to what she ended up getting - a gorgeous large framed photo! For those of you that watch Castle, you may have noticed a very lovely bit of art behind his desk as he's writing - it's a look downward through a spiral staircase in some lovely old building in Paris, all gorgeous browns and sepia tones. Pretty!! I intend to hang it above my desk (how apropos!). I mean, it's a copy of that one - not the one from the show of course. No, the Browncoats and gang found that lots of fans were commenting on that prop and so they hunted down the artist and talked to him about if he'd like to offer prints of the photo and have part of the sale go to charity. So my pressie was fandom and Nathan and doing good, all together! And talk about sweet coincidental timing - the Castle ep from last night? Was a repeat that opened with a scene between Nathan and his mom on the show and what was hanging behind him? My photo!! **is all warm and tingly** Oh, and did you guys notice that Mark (of Mark Watches and Mark Reads) is now watching Buffy? Fun to read his reactions and those of people commenting! How exciting, Spring, to be so close to retirement! I wish that were me tooooooo! ;D

Better Half! How in the world are you? Okedoke, Better Half! How about you? I'm ready for the holiday season to be over. It's all I can do to just maintain my weight, let alone lose it. *sigh* I have no self control.

It's all I can do to just maintain my weight, let alone lose it. *sigh* I have no self control. No self-control, too much food, too much stress, I hear ya. Younger Daughter decided she didn't want to go to the aquarium this time either, so we're both having a pajama day. Although I may get dressed and go for a walk later; I haven't decided yet and it's still cold out there.
