Having port installed tomorrow. But am on 3rd week of dry cough. Must be allergies? But it's annoying and I need to not have an infection. Vibes please? Also: I adopt Diane's manifesto: I am 60, 200 pounds* and spend more on healthcare than the average person. But I am a contributing member of society who works at improving lives around me and certainly not making the world a worse place: I rock! [And I try hard not to "judge lest I be judged" -- and the hardest people not to judge are the judgers -- if you know what I mean. There is a lot of irony in the moderate Islamic community saying "don't blame us all for the actions of a few crazies" when, of course, that is exactly what the crazies did in targeting anyone other than the person who actually made the movie that offended them (not that he would deserve death either). But, of course, even if it is ironic it is still true. Of course, if this was targeted payback that is almost easier to understand. Still horrific of course. So very very glad Allison is back from the middle east. EDIT: that is 60 YEARS and 200 POUNDS. NOT: 60,200 pounds. Hugs, vibes and best wishes, headed your way.

*sigh*
Was supposed to have Help today, but the help is unwell, so I'm stuck doing all the things I normally do while neglecting the things that normally get neglected.
It gets old.
Julia, pretty much ready to go dig a hole and pull it in after me.

Well, if retiring didn't render me officially old, today certainly capped it.
I filed for Social Security.
Now go figure. I married Blaine in 1968. We divorced in 1991 after 23 really turbulent years. However, the nice lady at the field office tells me I qualify to file on his record. That will mean an additional $300 a month. It will also mean my benefits will be taxable. It will also nearly double my present income.
And best of all, when I turn 70 I can file for full benefits on my own record which is likely to boost it even more.
Feeling pretty good here.

What is the challenge? Oooooh, the print one!!! Create a fabric and design using your cultural heritage. That's actually a rather exciting idea!
Hmmmm. So, my cultural heritage is Norwegian and Scottish. Sweaters! A sporty-hiking vibe! Alpine colors and plaids! Maybe the print is a plaid, but when you look closer, the lines are actually Lemmings! Or maybe a print that is like a waterfall ... or the colors/patterns from mountains or glens .... nature of course .... Hmmmm. Will keep pondering.
And our cultural heritage is Joss and the Buffyverse. So, a pattern from Buffy or Angel or Firefly? Which do we prefer? OH!!! Or maybe a stylized, image of Joss' face!! Altered, so you can't really see it is a face, but then suddenly you can!

Our print could be abstract stakes (Buffy) and city skyline w/moon (Angel) and spaceship swooshing over horses (Firefly)!! And we'll make the print into a full, flowy, gorgeous big couture-y looking skirt, paired with a sharp, tailored, elegant bodice!!

Happy Belated with much love Birthday, Lola sweetheart. Ta, ever so. And you're a golfing goddess, that's what's up with that! ;D I don't know! I got the prize for the longest drive (women's) and our team came in first. Ha! Probably because half the field quit when it started raining after about 12 holes. Blech What can I say?!! Soon I will be too old for such nonsense! I have my first date A-Nick this Saturday, too. Gave my email address to a guy at a craft beer bar we were at waiting to see Lindsey Buckingham. Met him about 5 min before we were heading out next door to the concert at an old restored theater. We had such a fun time chatting for 5 min that I just had to take a chance. Again - too old to let chances slip away. Figured I'd never see him again. So, he emailed me and said if I was ever up his way again to let him know, and then a week later said he had business down my way and could we meet for a drink. Seriously, tho. Seems weird 'dating' at nearly 60. How was your b-day?

It was very lovely - met friends for rooftop dining and drinks.

Runway! Sonjia - I really like her pants and top. I'm afraid that the pattern of her print is ... not the best, though. Not horrible, but not the best. They tip the pants over a bit too much into 70's vibe. Elena - This turned out better than it was looking before. I like the pattern she made, but I'm not totally digging the shoulder silhouette on this. It's her trademark boxy and yet it's like she should have made it either more boxy or not at all. This feels sort of ... halfhearted. Christopher - Yeah, I'm not fond of this. The shape is bulky and not good. The pattern is covered up and muted to the point of dullness. Just not a fan of this dress. The fit is, well, horrible. That zipper! Oy! Ven - It's a perfectly serviceable dress. Pretty. Elegant. Skewing a bit old. Big old rose fold pattern in the skirt and the print. In other words, it's like every other outfit he's ever made. Fabio - I am disappointed in Fabio. I really really liked his fabric, and he's minimized it so much in the design! And now the whole thing is so dark we can't see what are likely interesting details. It's got a very easy, comfy vibe, which is very Fabio. But this could have been an exciting outfit if he'd just been bolder! Melissa - I like this print and the dress is very pretty. Very different from her usual thing. But I'm afraid the judges will think it is too ... ordinary? Pedestrian? But I really like it. Gunnar - I think I like this. I mean, it's not made perfectly, I can see some flaws in the design of the jacket, things that could have been done to make it sharper, cleaner, lighter, better suited to the print. And the skirt should perhaps have been more fitted? On the other hand, no, I think the skirt is right to be more flirty/sporty. Dmitry - The jacket is almost there! I too like the geometric shapes (I agree that it looks like it's a cut-thru to the blouse underneath - cool idea!). But the rest of the cut of the jacket and skirt are too .... straightforward. They needed more drama, more energy. Pause and post! How will the judges disagree from me, I wonder?

I didn't even catch his name until he emailed me. Done with my bath and now that I'm warmed up I am going to catch the rest of the Bears/Packers and watch my DVR of PR tomorrow after the movie with my young guy workmates. LOL. Bunch of nerdy, like my sons, far from home kids. We're going to go see Resident Evil.
