New at allaboutspike is this tale of Dana returning, still crazy, in hopes of gaining Spike's forgiveness and of being reconciled to her Calling as a Slayer. Characterization is excellent and the angst thick enough to cut with a plastic spoon. It's complete, and quite substantial in content as well as in length. Gwyneth Rhys, "Mercy Street" www.allaboutspike.comLovely piece of writing, indeed, wonderful Spike and great Dana. Julia, unlike my next post

What happened to the posting glamours? I need the skull and crossbones.
For the sake of your sanity, avoid spikealicsious's "One Normal Life, Two Extraordinary Lives" just posted on the Buffy-Spike Diary archive. Unless your life is seriously short of bad grammar and ennui, that is.
Really. 145 chapter WIP, and most of it the kind of stuff that in real life we read fanfic to avoid thinking about. I got caught up skimming the thing for eventful passages, of which there are maybe six, and otherwise, it's shopping and trips to the DMV and please for the sake of good fanfic writers everywhere, make her STOP!
I'm sorry if anyone else has somehow managed to enjoy this fic and is offended by my posting, but BLEAURGH.
Julia, also needing the vomiting icon

The two Indri pieces are up at allaboutspike, also; I have yet to read Descent but Shagging Harmony Kendall is a hoot, and also, on the whole, rather touching. Julia, who hasn't been reading newspapers much lately, just so you know

Well, I've just combed through all the recommendations from this thread looking for the poor dear babyfic which has been eluding me for two weeks now; I've followed a ton of leads that have gotten me nowhere (except accidentally dropped into the worst of fanfic tedia, and launched to some of its sharper summits). I have googled until I can't google no more, and this is a cry for help from the few people who cruise this part of the site and not the main board:
I am looking for a babyfic set in AtS S5, when Buffy is prevented from flying to see Spike as soon as Andrew comes back with Dana because she is in the last weeks of pregnancy, and shows up at W&H with Dawn and a baby named Willa.
It's gotten to be one of those damned data cravings which, when I was young, sent me skittering through the encyclopedia from dusk until dawn.
HELP
Julia, this is getting to be the fic equivalent of my favorite agate, which I know is in the house somewhere

I've been reading through the substantial work of a writer named Holly at allaboutspike, and she's a good solid tale spinner. She also has one of the worst senses of the language I've ever seen and she thinks Spike's accent is Cockney and punctuates it that way (with the missing 'h's, don't'cha know).
I'd give you some examples of her horrendous word choice but I didn't collect them. But despite these, she's worth reading for the sake of the stories she tells. She just needs a heavy-duty editor to clean up her mss. for her, since she's obviously completely incapable of doing it herself.
So strongly qualified praise here. Only for the strong of word-usage stomach, I'm afraid.

I enjoyed it, but was trying to figure out how to rec it without giving too much away given that I'm not sure everyone will like the plot twists. But I'll just say--I'm with Nan. It's very very long (and I think there are several sequels). It held my interest. It's Spuffy, but also angsty. (Tons of post soul figuring out who "William" is and major guilt over the AR.) Full cast, but mainly Buffy and Spike. Altho Spike and Giles form a truly wonderful friendship in the first several (10-12?) chapters. It's maybe not in my top 10, but easily better than most of what is out there.

Only sometimes? I must be slipping! I guess I didn't explain that--it's just that so often when you rec something it's the same stuff I'm reading. Of course, since there are limited options.... And--I am also of course following the two (!) Eurydice fics--one of the few authors I will read WIP.

And--I am also of course following the two (!) Eurydice fics--one of the few authors I will read WIP. Well, there's WIP and WIP- for instance Lazuli's "Repossession" (link on the first page of Slash Follies), which is up to 107 chapters now, and is well written and involving and eventful and the cliffhangers come in places where they make sense. It's got a lot of similarity in gross outline to the fic I warned against above, except the writer is more up to the task of spinning a long tale. Julia, shuddering at a Major General on television using "rebutal" as a verb and deciding to take a miss on the fic Nan mentioned

NWHepcat's original character piece reflecting a Slayer in waiting living in Papua New Guinea. Written for the Time Zones challenge, other stories from which I've never read.. It's This little light archived at "Bugger this". Fits into her "postcards from the road" series, but not so tightly that you have to know ANYTHING of what's going on to read and enjoy it. Doe snot follow along the lines I suggested, just is an excellent view of an original character in the buffyverse. Except for her way out of reality view of the Hash House Harriers (which she admits to). Bugger This: www.echonyc.com/~stax/Buffy/..

Sue asked that wisteria's latest short Spuffification of AtS s5 be linked here, so www.livejournal.com/users/wisteria_/356371.html#cutid1Also underway at that LJ is the close-to-canon "Correspondance" AtS s5, which started with Fred and Buffy writing and last week had a masterful fanwank of TGIQ for Spuffies, and an X/S/B follow-up to her "Heroes" (which is archives at AAS) called "Mescla" (which I also recommended in the Slash thread). Julia, avoiding bed so I can be awake and only 51 just a hair longer

Sue suggested that I post some Live Journal (LJ) URLs for those who like to read their fanfic hot off the disk, as it were. Here listed (and above) are the 14 LJ's I visit about 3-4 times a week, and some of them? every day - to get my fanficfix fresh, hot, and steaming. 1. Wisteria/Alanna's has already been posted by Julia, just above this posting. (Thanks, J) Her WIPs include: Correspondence, Antiquities, Mezcla. Antiquities is Spike/Dawn; Correspondence is S/B; Mezcla is S/B/X. 2. Automated Alice's Rancho Relaxo www.tar-xvf.net/shannon/this site directly links to her LJ. She hasn't officially finished the haunting and beautiful Half-Gifts, though her postings are sporadic. Her new fic, Boy, aka Gay Bar, is AU S/X, very very AU, but, gotta admit, it's beautifully written and the sex promises to be hot. I say this, 'cause so far? no sex, and it's hotter than W&H's holding dimension. 3. The Brat Queen www.livejournal.com/users/thebratqueen/She writes exclusively A/Wes and sometimes A/W/S. She has three WIPS: Epiphany, which will never be finished, I think, and is not one of my favorites, only because I am not a W/A shipper. Still, it has plot, characterization, and great dialogue. Pet is one of my favorites solely because of the banter. Her dialogue is to truly admit addiction. The last of her WIPs is Protocol, and I'm not into this one AT ALL. However, I check her LJ daily for possible new chapters of Pet, which I love, love, love. 4. Caro's Place www.livejournal.com/users/spikewriter/Her current WIPS are all favorites of mine, and all are B/S. 7 Years in the Desert (I really love this story.); Something New (this is a really nice tale.), and Life in Sunnydale (not interested in this one at all. doesn't mean it's not good; just means that, time-wise, I probably won't get into it. I'm more into now/future fic than what used to be fic. If it's newly written, I mean.) 5. Doyle's place www.livejournal.com/community/ats_endofdays/I'm not a fan of Doyle's writing. But the site? it's important. More important for what's gonna be there than what is there now. Doyle has organized a massive ficathon, with almost 100 writers. Each writer will write a fic that explores an unanswered question from each episode. There are 113 episodes of Angel, and Doyle expects to receive 113 fanfics. This is the one we've been waiting for, and the archive that comes from it should be wonderous. 6. Estepheia www.livejournal.com/users/estepheia/Here it is! For those of us whose OTP is Spander, and for those of us (hello?) who love to read good slash, Estepheia's LJ is a daily stop. No current WIP, IIRC. For those who've forgotten? She wrote the hilarious and hot Cues and Balls. 7. Fay's journal www.livejournal.com/users/pandarus/no current WIP. Her work is archived at fanfiction.net and her own archive, shared with her pals, is Bugger This. You might know her for her jaw-dropping Tooth and Claw, for her Spike/Dru Prague Series, for her Darla Series (Burning). Right now, today, she's got a whiz of a story about Faith and Willow and Kennedy. Stop there tonight, ok? 8. Herself www.livejournal.com/~herself_nyc/Ah. the Master. She who wrote What She Deserves, Disenchanted, Leather, LovingKindness, and the Bittersweet series. The Bittersweet series is not one of my favorites, although I love WSD, Leather, and LK. The current WIP, Where They Have To TAke You In, features B/S, S/A, and Buffy and Spike's kids, Jemima and Johnny. It's not as farout as it sounds. Like AnnieS, once Herself starts to spin a tale, no matter how outlandish it sounds? she makes it work. Herself just plain rocks. I have 6 more LJ's to recommend, and will do that shortly.

Part 2 of makd's LJ safari: 9. jwaneeta (Cynthia Martin) www.livejournal.com/users/jwaneeta/current WIP: Ronin. A post-apocalyptic tale including Spike, Andrew, Dana. Slow to write, but it's choice. You might have read her story, Yank Thanksgiving, shortly after Destiny aired. 10. Kita's journal www.livejournal.com/~kita0610/She who co-wrote Days of Our Unlives. She who archives Slashing the Angel, Almighty Gah, ficbitch. No current WIP, but always interesting to read what she's got to say. She's currently organizing a RPS ficathon. That's so no my thing, as, to me, it's well-written libel. So, I won't be reading those, but I will be stopping by to see if there's any OTHER new fic, and what Kita thinks about the world in general. 11. Nan Dibble www.livejournal.com/users/nandibble/And, if you don't know who Nan Dibble is, then really, where HAVE you been for the last..bunch of times? Current WIP is Blood Rites. Bloody good, is what I say. 12. Tania www.livejournal.com/users/itsabigrock/Ah, well: Tania. Co-writer, with Josey, of the Coming to Conclusions series. No current WIP, but she does post short stories to her LJ. There's one posted there, today. Also - archives Capt. Peroxide and Deadboy, Fang Four, etc. Her latest project? a Puppet!Angel ficathon. The links for these are posted at her LJ. She's got so many Puppet!Angel that it's a new category at Peroxide and Deadboy (and at Fists and Fangs) (Folks just love those muppets.) 13. Josey www.livejournal.com/users/sangpassionne/Josey's site is La Passion du Sanguinaire. You may have read one of her excellent historical novels, like Queen's Gambit or Demon's Aria. Or maybe you've read her trilogy: Highlander Factor, Beyond the Pleasure Principle, Sins of the Father, or her long story, Tracks in Time. Her current WIP doesn't appeal to me; it's an AU novel, historical, sort of a Tom Brown's Schooldays, with lots of randy goings on at a boy's school in England - in the past. The characters are the males of the buffyverse and the angelverse. Try it; just 'cause it's not my cup of Constant Comment, doesn't mean it won't appeal to you. She's a fine writer and worth a try. 14. Wiseacress www.livejournal.com/users/wiseacress/Ah, yes...She of the Modus Vivendi, and its sequel (whose title escapes me. I think it's Ars Vivendi), and the amazing Bus Stop Boxer. Current WIP? Debasement. By the way, if you haven't read any of her work, do this. now. She's another really fine writer. Her images are breathtaking, and her Spike and her Xander are just amazing. okay! that's a wrap. enjoy, and please let me know if you like these spots...and don't forget to add the LJ stops you make regularly, too!

makd--
Thanks so much! How/where do you find the time?
Made my banquet reservation. The lady on the phone thought she was being funny and at first told me: "Oh, no, it's all sold out." Not so funny to me.
