Lovely little PG-13 (for very small amounts of boy kissage) Xander/eventually Spike, a meditation of loss and change and renewal staring the eyepatch. Kimberly_A, of "It's Just a Jump to the Left" and Late Night Double Feature" has a lovely grasp of Xander's mental processes, and a deep respect for his character, and this is no exception: www.livejournal.com/community/kimberly_fan/28954.html?view=391450Julia, a nice way to end the day

The Sunnydale Herald seems to be back from the shock of the New Year, finally, and brought this bit of Xander/Oz, post "Lover's Walk", from Tesla321 and Dessert First, a bit NC-17 at the very end, mostly just melancholy sweetness: www.livejournal.com/users/tesla321/108335.htmlJulia, hoping the ice jam has broken and people are writing again

Recommended by Dovil, so you know it's gonna be good. Lynne - aka GermainePet - has turned out a lovely little faux Shakespearean piece set in the time of Charles II. Dovil spoke very true when she said that the author: "dangles the promise of bad!fic in front of me and then yanks it away as she delivers instead a brilliant story". www.livejournal.com/users/germaine_pet/8204.html#cutid1On the other hand, if you want a very different Dovil rec, not so much good as so bad it is truly good. For a funny bit of intentional bad fic, try The Sound of Sucking, by stoney. www.livejournal.com/users/stoney321/52464.html#cutid1Lola

More from the Sunnydale Herald, this one Entrenous, Spike/Xander post Chosen, responsible homeowners except what do you get when you cross a bored unemployed vampire, HGTV, and some money to spend? www.livejournal.com/users/entrenous88/179447.html?view=2416375Julia, more than mildly amusing to anyone who's ever gotten bit by the home improvement bug

Lindsey/Lee, AtS s2 coherant with canon, Lindsey POV unbelieveably nightmarish and creepy look into working for W&H, R for misery (Witt44 says "PG13 for Kissing and cussing" but I think MPA would say R for violence and adult ethical issues): www.livejournal.com/community/btvs_slash/111792.html#cutid1Julia, glad I read this in the morning, as it would be a classic empathy nightmare producer otherwise

This is from Beetle; I read a lot of her stuff, but it rarely rises to the level of recommendation. I hadn't seen this before, and it's a great take on the "Spike watching over Xander after Dirty Girls" jumping off place. R, maybe, for all talk and no action. stepaway.com/archive/viewstory.php?sid=781Julia, new stuff is thin on the ground right now

Glossing is probably one of the most literary fic writers going, and I always read her work, but she sometimes plays with concepts and behaviors which aren't my thing, so I haven't recommended anything of hers for a bit- which is a warning, in a way: if you like her writing, you may well want to check back at her live journal every once in a while, because I have a lot of issues which other's don't share, and you might be missing something you'll like, that I don't. In any case, that disclaimer aside, this morning brings a moment of sheer wonder, Devon, Oz, and Lorne, (and Devon's cat) taking off from LA during NFA. Hard R for mention of sexual acts, and for an off hand dismissal of homicide. www.livejournal.com/users/glossing/146973.html?#cutid1Julia, please do check out the last monthor so at her LJ, www.livejournal.com/users/glossing/ for fics which may fit your taste better than mine

I'm feeling unamusable right now, and am not even trying, bad me. Her stuff is very good, as a rule, I'm just being a grump. Julia, hate winter

Julia, hate winter I have not been, at least not yet. But then, I haven't made my weekly (or so) swing through the R-Z section of LJ yet, so I imagine I will run across it soon. There are a couple of LJ folks who I can count on to amuse me when I visit their site. Stoney, Dovil, etc. Even when they're not doing fic, just reading their daily posting is almost always a treat. (Just thinking about Dovil's wacky badfic Spangel Mpreg from a month or so ago gives me a chuckle. ;D ) Lola

Witling, nee Wiseacres, has three chapters of an untitled S/X hurt-comfort in place on her LJ (not yet in her memories). This link is to chapter three, which contains links to chapters 1 and 2, which you'll want to read first. In the days of Glory, Xander disappears and then shows up, mute, at least ten years older and plainly having been tortured severely...and terrified of Spike. The why of it not yet revealed. Features definitely Old School pre-soul Spike who's quite amusing. The link for chapter 3: www.livejournal.com/users/witling/110741.html#cutid1

It is very well written, as one expects from that author, but also, predictably with her, pretty bleak. Julia, glad you're braver than I am

There was a Slash Wedding Ficathon which I ceased to follow after the first couple of days left me with fics that were saccharin and, well, to be blunt, dumb. This is a back-up fic from Glossing which is neither, "Ending in Amazement", Gunn/Wes during NFA, PG-13. www.livejournal.com/users/glossing/147900.html?#cutid1Julia, really quite lovely

Secondverse used to be Yindagger, who wrote very NC-17 but still poetic Spander. Now she still writes some of the best S/X going, but the heat is turned down to a low, slow, sweet and subtle simmer. Seven Languages, R, perhaps, for those who insist all slash must be at least R, otherwise barely PG-13. www.livejournal.com/users/secondverse/166950.html?view=2209062Julia, still feeling grumpy but not in any fic-deprived way

Kallysten, whose writing I generally find a bit bland and saccharine (though thoroughly literate) has a fic with an edge going: Blurred Bloodlines. It's (eventually supposed to be) Spangel. Angel senses that someone of his bloodline is in desperate trouble, even over the distance between. When he investigates, he's astonished to discover it's Spike, whom he believed to have been killed in NFA. I won't reveal developments except to say that Spike is in *very* bad shape, and Angel is ambivalent about whether/how to help him. Six chapters have been posted this point... and Kallysten *always* finishes what she starts, so I have no hesitation in recc'ing it as WIP. www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=kallysten&keyword=Blurred+Bloodlines&filter=all
