From Kita610, one of the perpetrators of "Days of our Unlives", something quite else from that Spangel silliness. Spike/Connor, post NFA, NC17, barely, or hard R: www.livejournal.com/users/kita0610/181484.htmlJulia, needing to go read what came over the transom yesterday and maybe make recs

This may be the most highly qualified recommendation I've made in a long while. There are a whole lot of things wrong with this fic, bad proofreading high on the list. It would benefit from rigorous rewriting, to take care of technical problems and also to make the narrative flow more coherant. And deal with some Rupert/Wesley descriptions that intrude on the sex. And probably to get rid of a ghostly encounter that just feels off to me. And quite possibly to rework the last paragraph so it shows and doesn't tell. On the other hand, the characters are entirely convincing, the circumstances compelling, and the liberties it takes with canon timelines not that big a problem given the emotional conviction of the story. And even though it's nearly novel length, I've read it twice since Saturday morning, so that must mean something. Wolfling and Jameswalkswithwind "Cascade", Giles/Wes, NC-17 although very plotty. gila.fakingsanity.net/whedon/cascade.htmlJulia, get it while you can, I may just delete this rec as I'm not convinced it's deserving, even yet.

This is the due date for the Spike is Sexy Minislashficathon, hosted on Willshenilshe's journal: www.livejournal.com/users/willshenilshe/292342.htmlI've actually got other recs from the fics posted so far, but it takes the inimitable Dovil to get things going, with a Spike/Andrew BtVS s7, PG with a twist: www.livejournal.com/users/dovil/80940.htmlThe other stories I can endorse without qualification are: Twighlightsfic, Spike/Xander, R: www.livejournal.com/users/twilightsfic/10343.htmlTabaqui, Spike/Gunn, PG-13: www.livejournal.com/users/tabaqui/55943.htmlJulia, dinner, then hairwashing, then sleep

Nash Maverick is one of those prolific and popular writers that I can never seem to convince myself to rec, mostly because her fics seem pretty repetitive. She has a newish WIP, cowritten with Cas, which is a good deal more inventive than the general run of her stuff and, in addition, has been updated regularly. "Protective Custody", S/X post NFA with a Shanshued Spike who is NOT happy with the whole human thing. R now, although I imagine it's NC17 before long: www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=nashmaveric&keyword=Protective+Custody&filter=allJulia, there's another S/X, this one human AU, coming up on its fifth chapter which I will probably be recommending Sunday

GAH! Mentioned this in the main thread and forgot to put it here. Definitly one of the stranger side effects of the tsunami, you must admit. Julia, silly, silly and hilarious piece of writing

Jenny of Squashduck has completed Parallels, a new tale in 17 parts. I like her plotty stuff best and to me the slash has become uber predictable, but her work still is literate and well paced. www.squashduck.com/ltd/parallelsfic/index.htmIn this one, David and James, the actors, change places with actual Angel and Spike. Both pairs must figure out how to reverse the switch and return to their own realities. The take on the touchy (minds out of the gutter NOW!) relationship between David and James has surprising charm, and the role that Wesley/Alexis plays in both stories is interesting. Although I'm generally hugely underenthused with human AU tales, this is a wry enough take to have held my interest all the way through.

Anna S "The One in the Cave", a snarky and clever turn on "Xander and Spike are forced to have sex to save themselves from demons" plot, with a lot of funny, a modicum of hot, and a heaping sponful of sweetness. NC17, right on the edge of being PWP, but porn doesn't usually have this many arguments: www.livejournal.com/users/eliade/315603.html?#cutid1Julia, with this last bit of business complete, I bid you bon soir

On a day when I have read much- all the Valentine fics, and a chapter of "No More Snakes and Ladders" which was fiercely wonderful- this is the one thing I want to add to the recs list right now because it is utterly wonderful Anna S- not the "would be great if it were anyone else" level, but the "she keeps surprising me by exceeding her own high standard" shock-of-recognition total greatness: "Emerging", X/S, post NFA, PG, or PG-13 if you are of the opinion that any mention of gay sex is PG-13: www.livejournal.com/users/eliade/316462.html?view=3617070Julia, let us rejoice that such stories can be told

I've mentioned this fic regularly on the main thread, but havenot, until today, been able to get the memory page to load. www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=camisha&keyword=Cowritten+fic:+In+From+the+Cold&filter=allCamisha and Reremouse, "In From the Cold". Heading towards NC17, human AU Spike, William/Xander. So far, bleak and sad and scary, with wonderful characterizations. I'm always a little "meh" about human AU but both of these writers have a good grasp pf character and well above average writing skills. Julia, not the absolute best thing from either author but compelling storytelling in any case.

I just realize that, while I've been reading and enjoying, in a moderate kind of way, this WIP for a couple of months, now, I haven't recommended it yet, and I'm not sure why. It's a very mild sort of pleasure, Giles/Wesley, R at points but mostly PG or very lightly PG-13. Lostgirlslair, "Heat", and it's up to chapter 23: www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=lostgirlslair&keyword=Fic:+Heat+-+Warmth+sequel+-+G/Wes+-+WIP&filter=allJulia, terribly inefficient these days

Those following the story, and especially Becca, will be glad to know the final (though it's followed by a four-chapter epilogue/"encore") section of "Of Old Mystics," an Ethan/Giles magnum opus by Wolfling and Magpie, has at last been posted: Chapters 31 - 38. www.myarseisnotpansy.co.uk/lines/cfall/cfall0.html
