I thought that was just soooooooooooooooooo cool. Only 99 more posts and I hit 1000, and that was my goal on Friday. Wonder if I can actually hit it . . . I probably can if I keep posting these posts that really don't pertain to anything ;D

I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my discussion of my father's illness in the last few days.
My father died around 4 a.m. today (July 19), 15 minutes after my mother and I left his bedside in the I.C.U. We had been there for several hours, were tired, and thought that death was still hours away. It wouldn't have mattered much to my father whether we were there or not, he was sedated, very relaxed, and I don't think he knew we were there. But I had wanted to be there when the time came for him to go. We spent the night watching the blood pressure drop bit by bit, and death creep up on him. He was on a ventilator. Death was caused by a combination of pneumonia, malnutrition (thanx to his not eating as much as he should have, since he wasn't happy with the food at the rehab facililties where he spent the last five months), bacterial infection in the blood, lung cancer (which had not yet advanced to the point where he had symptoms), dehydration, slight loss of kidney function, and a mild heart attack. It was just too much for a tired 90-year-old to battle.
Today is my parents' 50th wedding anniversary.
This end was not unexpected; hence the lack of sudden grief. We are tired and numb. We knew he didn't have several years left, but hoped and expected to bring him home for at least a few months, so he could be at home and have good food rather than bland institutional food and care by strangers, however well-intentioned...

Gail Gail, condolences on the death of your dad. That you had many years of his company and affection may eventually balance out the manner of his going and the difficulty of seeing it coming, all that time braced against it and helpless to change it. It's terribly hard to lose a parent at any age. I lost my dad when he was relatively young, in his 40's, and have been subtly lopsided ever since. Being steady on your own feet as an adult may help you cope with the loss. At least I can hope that for you. I hope the infusions of frivolity on this board can serve as a break sometimes for you. Come when you can, share what you want. We all wish you most well.

Betsy, I went Googling for Buffy screencaps and didn't find anything better than what you already have. That doesn't mean they aren't there, just that so far I haven't found them. I'll keep my eyes out for you for this. Thanks Nan . . . I appreciate it . . . I like using sequenced caps . . . you can make some neat animations.

Gail Gail, you and your mother and your entire family have my heart-felt sympathy. I know you're tired and stunned right now -- I hope that there's somebody who can look after you while you look after your family in the next few days.
I think it may have been better that you left your father while he was still alive -- I think, in some respects, that will keep him "alive" in your mind, as well as your heart. And I don't think it was a coincidence that he passed on his wedding anniversary -- I think he was probably struggling to make it to that date for himself and your mother, and that having done it, he decided it was time to rest.
Please consider this my virtual shiva visit -- you'll be in my prayers this week-end.

This following up the discussion I was having on the last part.
Rae said it was responsible for Angel to destroy the gem because of the problems it would cause. Before I saw the episode and just read about him destroying it I just assumed this was the reason he did it. When I did see it and heard the reason he gave I thought "Huh? How lame". I guess I just needed to hear him say that it was also because of the problems it would cause with other demons and vampires.
I promise I won't say any more about this. I'm just trying to like his character and I am having a hard time doing it. I hope I didn't make anyone mad with anything I said.

The moving avatars are cool. BUT, do they cause a scrolling problem for anyone else?
Anytime I try to scroll down a page with a lot of posts using moving avatars my page moves very slowly, and jerkily.
It wasn't really noticeable on bed crawl Spike or Miss Kitty. But the new ones seem to be a little different, since the whole picture is replaced by a new picture. Or maybe it was just the last few pages of part 21 were chock full of such posts.
I have to say, Betsy's posts are noticeably the worst. My scroll slows down to a crawl, possibly because hers involves several page changes?
I notice the same thing happens on pages on "Avatar Alley".
I'd never want to limit anyone's creative expression, but I'm curious to know if this is happening to anyone else, and, I have to admit, I'm concerned that if everyone goes to moving avatars it's really going to slow things down.

Sue Sue, I haven't noticed a problem downloading the board because of the animated avatars. I use a basic dial-up connection (MSN) with a 56K modem; my operating system is XP Professional (I don't know if that has anything to do with it), and my browser is IE.
And thanks for the congrats!
