I've seen this before in London cons, David. In (for instance) LA, you have LA and environs; in London, you have the entire fandom in the country. It was the same in B&B fandom, too. Oh, and they pay well, which helps account for the large star guest list. [/color]

Several of the stars at the one in Nashville said they'd done several European conventions, but only a couple of them in the states.

The mistake was worth it just to see the way you rescued it in the epilogue!

Several of the stars at the one in Nashville said they'd done several European conventions, but only a couple of them in the states. James and Tony did several conventions together back in the day. They were like Andy Hallett and James Leary before James got so popular he couldn't mingle with the crowd freely.

James and Tony did several conventions together back in the day. They were like Andy Hallett and James Leary before James got so popular he couldn't mingle with the crowd freely. I can see that. I'll bet James and Tony were quite the pair. As much as Giles and Spike don't like each other, I always got the impression that James and Tony were pretty tight -- I'll even bet that Tony doubles as a dialect coach for James. Plus they've both got the musical sideline.

Plus they've both got the musical sideline. There's a video at SPIKEONANGEL.COM that has JM talking about various stuff, i.e. kissing SMG/Buffy, some Buffy computer game, etc. I couldn't hear Spike at all in his voice; I didn't even recognize his voice. AH has done a great job as dialect coach, and JM has done a great job portraying a Brit...

Well, I have no idea what the rest of you will think--I guess maybe opinions will vary widely, but I loved this episode--start to finish, every line.
Good luck on finding the subtext Nan, I think there was enough text for three episodes. No metaphors or subtlety here--laid out flat about hope/heroes/heart/ connectedness/disconnectedness and I'm thinking the number 5 was no coincidence.
I gotta run. Child and husband just getting home after LONG day.
But, this may be my favorite ep of the year so far and it wasn't even Spike-centric. I LOVED the choreography in the wrestling ring (and I hate wrestling). I cheered out loud and other parts made me tear up.
Maybe I'm just in a strange mood--but I loved it!

Okay -- this episode I think is deceptive, in the sense that it "just" seems to be about another "monster of the week." It is much more than that, but I think it's going to take several viewings to mine it thoroughly.
For now, a couple of thoughts:
[/i] doesn't know what Angel is talking about? Or that he doesn't know that the prophecy was altered? • Angel's lost hope -- any number of reasons for that! • Spike can tell that the demon has to be slain through the heart because of "the poetry."[/ul] That's all for tonight for me -- I've got an early morning meeting, and I still have to watch Jack McCoy! Terrific episode! The choreography in the ring; the "new" Team Angel - Spike, Wes, Gunn, and Angel; "Just how DID you get the front seat, Spike?"; no heart in Angel for the demon to take; #5 never parting from his mask; all the conversation about connectedness; remembering the prophecy; Angel's slip of the tongue to Wes; Spike's snarkiness about not being corporeal, and his frustration at not being able to go fists and fangs; Lorne and Fred talking about her woman state; Angel being well-matched with an old, smaller, wrestler; discussion between Gunn and Wes about American culture and racism; the shock on Angel's face in the cemetery......
just so much! This episode really delivered a good punch.
Bonus! Gil (hubby) watched the entire episode while he did his daily stretching exercises. He stopped them to watch Angel. Yay! One more episode and he'll be a convert, too!
and, yes, definitely, I am so liking Angel.....yes, I am converted. As much as Buffy? still waiting for the "burst", which I suspect will occur during sweeps week.

Wow! What a neat episode. Wasn't sure how I was going to like it. The WB promos are so misleading.
Lots of great stuff. Lorne looking better in that cool white suit.
But - Wesley - Spike - Angel - Shanshu. Oh boy, Oh boy, Oh boy! I just don't have the words. Can't wait for the reviews and everyone's thoughts, which I'm sure will be more thoughtful than my 'oh boys'.
The power of 5!

Can't stay up tonight, but here's my thoughts on this episode. First thought, night watchman, always expendable. Angel's feeling disconnected. Angel has lost hope, "There's no shining reward at the end of the day." The "number brothers" gained strength by staying connected. Angel needs to reconnect with his "brothers" and find his hope. We see Angel reading the Shanshu prophecy, so we know he wants to believe it again. Wesley doesn't remember the whole Father & Son Prophecy, or at least he pretended not to remember. I thought the look on his face might indicate that he Did remember, but didn't want to admit it. Interesting that Cinco's apartment was Number 8--symbol of infinity. The neverending struggle of good and evil? Lots of references to fighting as dancing in this ep. "Let's dance, milkmaid." "Wanna waltz?" Loved Angel's, "Really hate this place." Everyone seems to hate their job!! Funny Quotes-- Gunn: In house attacks down 30% this week. Spike: Isn't he like 100 years old? Spike: You should know that, being departed and all.

Finally! Some meaty character stuff again!
And did anyone notice that the W&H card being handed over to Numero Cinco had the name "Holland Manners" on it?

Oh, and for the record, I think that Angel's slip of the tongue about "the father will kill the son" is going to be Wesley's cue to do the research that uncovers the truth of the mindwipe and becomes the good excuse for AD's wedding absence.
