Welcome to the Soulful Spike Society Part 77, the home of those who love everyone and everything that Joss Whedon created, but especially Spike! Got chat? Bring it on!
If you are new here there are 3 Don'ts to remember... 1. Don't flame. Be kind. Be respectful. You can disagree, just don't diss.
2. Don't spoil. If you like to talk about what is coming next for Angel and the Gang, that's fine - we have a place for people like you - it's called Spoiled Souls and it's on the front page. Go chat about upcomings to your heart's content, then come here and chat about what's been screened.
3. Don't stop with the posting board. Also go to our website at www.soulfulspike.com and read some great fanfiction, clever poetry, interesting articles and essays, and convention reports. You will also be able to learn about our members there - click on member profiles for the dirt.
Now, enter and enjoy!

Testing, one, two, three. . . . Yup, looks okay, Patti! Good Night! Later: And now that we know the board is working, and it's just that folks are sleepy, I'm gonna sign off, too. See y'all tomorrow. Sigh. Back to work.

I just wrote four pages and discarded all of it. Meditations, no action. It can be for my information, working out for myself what the people are thinking. An exercise filed as a "scrap." Not truly discarded, just filed to the side.
When I get too tired, I tend to write exercises, not stories. Time to shut it all down now, recharge batteries or whatever it is one does when one sleeps....
Good night, S'cubies.

"Hey, all you feminist-types out there: have you read Woman: An Intimate Geography by Natalie Angiers? Angiers is a science writer for the New York Times, and the book is basically female biology written for the literate non-scientist. I thought it was excellent"
Rachael posted this on the previous page and I just wanted to chime in with my helping of "excellent." Did anyone else picture RuPaul in the discussion of "Barbie Doll Syndrome?" Another personal favorite of mine, in this same area, is The Body Project, by Joan Jacobs Brumberg. She traces the twisted history of female self-image, specifically that of adolescent girls, from the 1830s to the present day. It's fascinating, if occasionally disheartening stuff, especially if you're the mother of a girl.

Someone requested my input to this discussion from Part 76, so here it is -- Please, if somebody remembers better than I, correct me...but I recall Buffy staking Ford at the end, when he rises. She and Giles are by his grave. It's the end of Lie to Me--right? After: I'll go check a transcript and get back to everybody on this. This may have been answered already -- going through some of what I missed while enjoying my Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Billy Fordham was indeed the kid with the cancer, who was supposedly an old friend of Buffy's from Hemerey High (although I don't recall a Billy or a Ford in the movie, but that's neither here nor there). Billy wanted eternal life rather than death by cancer, so he struck up the deal with Spike that if he could deliver the slayer, Spike would sire him. Billy did indeed deliver Buffy to Spike, and although Spike was rather incensed because Buffy is a tough quarry, Ford reminded Spike of their deal and that he had held up his end of the bargain. This is the last scene of the episode -- In the graveyard Buffy and Giles stand by a fresh grave. "I don't know what I'm supposed to say," Buffy looks at the grave. "You needn't say anything," Giles tells her kindly. "It'd be simpler if I could just hate him. I think he wanted me to. It made it easier for him to be the villain of the piece. Really, he was just scared." "Yes, I suppose he was," Giles replies. "Nothing's ever simple anymore," Buffy complains wistfully, "I'm constantly trying to work it out. Who to love, or hate.who to trust. It's just, like the more I know, the more confused I get." Giles smiles briefly, "I believe that's called growing up." "I'd like to stop then, okay?" "I know the feeling." "Well, does it ever get easy?" Buffy asks, as Ford bursts from his grave. Buffy half heartedly drives a stake into his chest. "You mean life?" Giles asks. "Yeah," Buffy says, "Does it get easy?" Giles looks puzzled. "What do you want me to say?" "Lie to me." "Yes. It's terribly simple." Giles says. "The good guys are stalwart and true. The bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats and we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after." "Liar." Buffy says as they walk away.

[glow=green,2,300]Happy December 1st Everyone!![/glow] Well I've been gone so I didn't get to wish everyone a safe and happy thanksgiving. I hope we all enjoyed it So... did I miss anything good? *grins* Ok, just kidding. I was actually lurking when I could and I know that I missed some great stuff. I missed all my fellow S'cubies and I'm glad to be back! Of course, that could have something to do with being stuck in a house with 4 kids for the past 2 weeks. (See my new avatar for examples of how they kept busy with me... my toenails were pretty that day too.) *winks* I'm off to try and catch up on what I missed.

I wonder if vampires celebrate the Winter Solstice? Longest night of the year, after all. Love the hair, very festive, very this month! You must be their favorite auntie. It reminds me of what Emily and Kitty used to do to Paul - I'd go off yardsale-ing of a Saturday, he'd fall asleep on the couch while they were playing, so they'd get all their barettes...

Well, okay, I will have to actually do work today since, as it is, I'm going to be in the office until all hours of the night for the next few days (Vicky is not pleased), but I have been so negligent in my S'Cubbie duties, so I'll be in and out. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and good week-end. Next week is Buffy Season 5! Oh so damn excited (my favorite season).

I honestly don't know how I'm going to catch up with all the discussions, but I finally watched "Destiny" last night, so at least I can read them without spoiling myself. Can I also just say, oh my god, to the last 5 seconds? I think I need to change my avatar.
