Thanks for the notation on this, Nicki. Here's the quote from the UPN Buffy website, Episode Smashed: "Down in Spike's crypt, the bleached bloodsucker prepares to stick it to the Slayer by pulling out several goodies, including a stun gun, a rope, chains, padlocks and handcuffs. Then, he puts on a Roxy Music record, lights some candles, sets up flowers and then puts rose petals on the bed. When he is content with his preparation, he bolts from the crypt in search of Buffy. " And, son of a gun, how THAT scene changes everything: First he'll love her, then he'll kill her? or, first he'll kill her, then he'll love her? or, just a little B&D ? hoo-hah. How the story changes.... and, damn FX! just, damn them! I think it shows how conflicted Spike's feelings really were. He wants to be sweet, but he wants her so bad he's willing to do anything. Plus, we know Dru liked torture, so Spike probably figured he'd try a little bit of everything.

Remember how much I said my job blows? Well, it still does but on a more positive note: guess who got into a yelling match with her dumbass co-worker? That's right, ME!! HA HA HA!! It felt great too. I had gone into his office to ask him a question about an expert report and he bit my head off! He started saying all this crap about me bothering him and he was too busy right now, blah blah blah. Asshole was playing solitaire on his computer. Busy my ass. Anyway, that was it for me - I blew up! I let him have it - I'm so tired of his bullshit. He screws up and I have to clean it up. I'm so freakin' tired of it. Punk is lucky I didn't have something heavier than the expert's report in my hand because believe you me, it would have been thrown at him. Doesn't say too much about me I know. I told him I was tired of him screwing up and not doing anything about it, never stepping up and helping to fix a mess HE got us into, always taking credit when he didn't do the work, playing solitaire on his computer while I'm busy fixing his fuck-up. It quickly escalated into a shouting match which the whole office heard. I've put up with his crap for too long and today was the straw that broke the camel's back. It seems every time I come here I'm bitching about my job. I know it drives everyone crazy so I'll try really, really hard to stop. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. That's okay, Lee.

Wow! What a difference in perception, here. Maybe Spike likes the pre-show just a little? (ducks rotten tomatoes) Just speaking for myself, I've always like the pre-show. Don't want to see the show without it!

Just received the following PM from Kerrie, regarding Smashed, and as it was seen in Australia:
Yep that's what I saw.
However, I did not notice that he also had a stun gun according to the scripts so the seduction may have been vampire-syle. . .
However, sad to say, the Australian version was NOT on the DVD.
Cheers.
Kerrie.
PS I have missed you all too.
So, the UPN site cites correctly, and we all have NOT seen the real dope!
More importantly, will we ever? Can't wait, now, to receive those pre-ordered Season 6's next year!! Wonder if those scenes will be eliminated from OUR DVD's, too?
Off to watch Angel and eat some good Italian din-din.

Thanks for the tip. I hope you're mom's better soon. My mom has poor balance and has fallen a couple of times recently--she'll be 72 in March--but just bruises, so far. Thanks, Nicki. My mom just turned 72. She had a stroke about 6 years and doesn't move around enough nd the pain medicine for her back doesn't help her balance, either. We're hoping the therapy will get her back home before Christmas. Guess we're the moms now.

Since, contrary to my initial impression, that scene did actually exist at one time, I wonder if it might be available through buffy.nu? I'll try to find a way to ask them.

My mom had surgery on a heel spur about a year ago and the doctor was amazed at how healthy she is. My mom has no major health problems and takes no prescription medications.

Stun gun, rope, chains, padlock and hand-cuffs? Had he learned nothing from "Crush"? No, just like the rest of the gang, he had to learn those lessons over & over & over. I think ME meant to show how conflicted Spike's feelings were. He wants to be romantic and woo Buffy, but he wants her badly enough to do just about anything to get her.

Yeah, but the consequences of his Buffy-bondage strategy in "Crush" were so severe, resulting in his dis-invite from her house - I just think it's totally out of character for him to have intended to try the same thing again.

You sound like Faith. Awesome. on the novel front: i remembered later that one of the characters has the same name as this woman who found it (the character isn't the nicest person, either), so I'm doubly glad she didn't read it!

Oh my. Yesterday I found out that something I'd accidently printed (my novel) to this work printer that i'd thought never printed it was in the possession of one of the department heads and she was upset at someone wasting paper and kept bringing it up in staff meetings to smoke out the culprit. Not only had I used work resources for a personal item, but the novel contains some rather twisted events and not entirely normal sex scenes that I would prefer not having my co-workers read. so i confessed and apologized and found out that this woman hadn't read it at all, which was the biggest relief of all; although I had to promise her a signed copy if I ever get it published. must be that catholic guilt thing again. Yowza! You've gotta be careful, kiddo. I don't DARE do any personal surfing or anything online because our company DEFINITELY tracks our internet usage. I have, on occasion, gone in early and made a copy of one of my books, but only in a rare pinch, and I usually about get an ulcer while doing it. I can't afford to lose my job. I wouldn't even risk the copying, except that it's such a hassle to get to the copy center on short notice. Doing anything like that is risking dire consequences. Rhonda

Even IV valium & demerol didn't help the back spasms. Apparently I have a very high tolerance to pain & painkillers. My doctor was amazed at how much anathesia it took to put me under. I have that problem with dental work. I can't take the epinephrine that normally goes into local anesthesia, and I metabolize the stuff so quickly they ususally have to stop in the middle of the procedure and shoot me up again. What can I say? Are S'cubies tougher than the average?

Yeah, but the consequences of his Buffy-bondage strategy in "Crush" were so severe, resulting in his dis-invite from her house - I just think it's totally out of character for him to have intended to try the same thing again. But he & Buffy had been kissing at the end of Tabula Rasa--way different situation than Crush. I think he would have used the stun gun just to get her there and then been all romantic. Maybe someone at ME thought the same thing you did and that's why they never showed that scene, if they shot it.
