From the main thread: WARNING!It is remotely possible that you will find details in the article to be (very) mildly spoilerish. Don't think it's anything that would spoil your enjoyment, just a few minor details about the episode in which she appears (just one so far).

I'm so far behind that I won't say much, but I feel sorry for Logan, he's a very lonely young man. His mother's disapperance and possible suicide could send him over the edge. I really liked how you pointed out in your review that he blames everyone for Lily's death, Sue.
I liked the "All the President's Men" movie poster in the classrooom. Corruption and masking ones' true identity at the highest government levels, ie. President Nixon wanted to appear to be a "good guy," not "a crook." The identity of "Deep Throat" still has not been revealed, although the reporters say they will tell after his death.

oh heck yeah! I mentioned last week that my high school was apparently second rate cause we didn't have any secret hooded societies other than Rainbow Girls. Great Triton, bring your horn from below - my my....what was it Veronica said when she took the picture? I DID figure out the locker trick the moment she said 'top locker'. My high school too, and I figured out the locker trick too.

I felt that way, too. And jumping off a bridge - just doesn't seem her style. Pills, yes. Messing up the hair - no. ITA, maybe pills and then the jump.

You think so? Maybe your son, but there's a long history of secret societies - Masons, Elks, all the fraternities and sororities - they may not have robes, but they have secrets and mottos and ....um...societies.... shutting up now.. You could tell us, but then you'd have kill us, right? ;D

I think it had to be them. I thought I saw robes. And I was not really happy with Veronica bugging the office. I mean, she (and we) got some information that may prove very important and it did lead her right to the Titons, but still. It made me feel ooky on her behalf. Listening in on private counseling sessions is very different than planting a camera to watch a money drop spot.Lola ITA. How would Veronica feel if someone bugged her pouring out her heart?

I know. ;D But I can't decide if she just took off and is hiding, or if it'll turn out daddy Echolls was gaslighting her. Or something completely other than that. I could see her all messed up on pills and having an accident, but jumping? Just seems . . . off, somehow. But, the car door was open and the car didn't look damaged.

I just got word, actually. Lynn is just fine; turns out her lips can be used as flotation devices.

True... I didn't get so much of the "ook" factor, I guess, because I sympathize with her "just wanna know" thing. But it also figures into what kind of person Keith raised her to be... No one has a right to any secrets from her: perhaps because she does not respect the concept of the secret when it doesn't apply to her. But more likely as a defensive concept. I'm willing to bet that her disregarding the concept of personal privacy is related to the hell her life became in the wake of her friend's murder. You see the discomfort in her eyes at the.... "sleaziness" of her father's profession, when Rick is bellyaching about how Keith busted his father, even though the guy deserved to be caught. I mean, c'mon, "no bonus" gives someone a moral right to embezzle? Jayzus. And speaking of sleaze: I just want to bitch about our litigious society for just a moment. Why on Earth would ANY judge with any judgement whatsoever even hear cases like that? When it's a case of "Well, he was stupid, he's paying for it" even if he were not the generator of the fake ID in the first place. I mean, that part of the ep had complete credibility because of the frivolous lawsuits running out the yin-yang. A woman burning herself on hot coffee, suing and winning because the coffee was hot? (to cite the most prevalent example of lititgous asshattery) *Forcibly removes self from soapbox before foam starts appearing in mouth* Thousands of people had been burned by coffee from that same restaurant chain. The jury decided that McD's was negligent by not lowering the temperature of the coffee before someone was badly hurt. The women who was awarded the large amount had third degree burns and had to have skin grafts. I wouldn't call that asshattery.

I got the impression the gibberish speak was just so that he wouldn't have to answer Veronica's questions about the Tritons. That's what I thought too.

So - Logan and Lilly had broken up, and she started dating Weevil. But then she went back to Logan. But then they broke up again because Logan kissed another girl. And maybe Lilly was heading back to Weevil . . . maybe that was her "big secret" she was going to tell Veronica before her death. BUT - Lilly and Weevil kept their dalliance a complete secret, obviously. Why? Because of "class" reasons, I guess? Not wanting their parents to object and interfere?I'd say they were more concerned about what their friends would say, especially Lily. She seems like the kind of girl who would dally with Weevil and break his heart.

You really put your finger on an important aspect of it - lonliness. Yes, he's friends with Duncan and his "gang" of buddies at school. But how many of them are really close? Does anyone know about his dad and how he abuses him? Is he sharing what he's feeling about his mom with anyone? Does he have someone to talk to about his feelings about Lily (other than the occasional counseling session as we see here)? I get the feeling that, unfortunately, the answer to most of these is no. Sue, I just read your revew and I gotta say I think it's your best yet! I especially enjoyed your outlining each episode and how it related to identity. Also, I never thought about how pills are such an important part of the show before. I'll be watching for this not so minor detail from now on. The first half of the season has set the story up very nicely. I can't wait to see where they go with it. Thanks for a great review. ETA: One thing you mentioned, I had thought about the other day - how are the Tritons able to hold their secret society doings in the school without getting caught? I think that the elder Tritons (parents of current Tritons) and some of the Neptune High School faculty are intertwined in some way. In one of the previous episode, I got the distinct feeling that the teachers needed to conform to a certain code of conduct that benefitted the richer and more influential kids and their parents. I wonder if that will figure into the mystery at all. Yup, the one teacher being told "you're new" over and over, implying that she wasn't doing things the way they're supposed to be done at Neptune High, ie. favoring the rich brats.

ITA, maybe pills and then the jump. If she really is dead (which I sadly think is likely) pills and then jumping (or pills and being pushed).
