Diane, I'd be happy to send a tape. I'm so paranoid about goofing on the VCR I almost always set two. Sue

Alexandra, as you may or may not have noticed, last time the board got moved, the link in the first post was to Vlad's e-mail, not to the S'cubie website. Before writing a new first post, you might want to double check that the link you embed includes http://
That will be the website. The e-mail link begins scubiefan@
Anything withan @ in it is gonna be an e-mail address.
Forgive me if you already know this perfectly well. Perhaps a reminder before is better than an OH NO! afterward.

If Nan's review is the highpoint of this new pilot, WB's in trouble. I hope ED has better writers than this or her new series is already down the drain. We may see her back on some kind of show with Joss yet.

Nan, I mean this as a compliment to you, not as anything negative. Sometimes getting meanings across on a board can be so difficult.

If Spike or any part of Spike is visible in the shot, even if he's only in the background, my eyes will be trained upon him. I want to watch him watching and reacting to the main action. I'm sure that's not what the other actors would like to hear and it's not to say that I never watch them when Spike is on screen. After all, I tape the show so at somepoin during repeated viewings I checkout what they're doing. But for Spike, multiple replays afford the opportunity to strutinize every expression and movement to my hearts content. It goes without saying that this is even more true for every scene where Spike is the main action. This means getting through a single episode may take an excessive period of time. But if I'm watching a tape of a show I've already seen in full a few times, one that only features minimal Spike exposure; e.g., Showtime, I confess to fast forwarding and only watching his few scenes.
What ever happens in the future I just hope that Joss/ME make it worth JM's while to be available for a future spin-off. If that means putting him on retainer at a star level salary Joss damn well better do it.

What interview? Did you alert the board to a JM interview and I missed it? Because I know if you'd seen a recent JM interview you would have told your fellow S'cubies about it....

Ellie very kindly let me borrow her tape. Here are some of my impressions which I copy from an Email I just sent her:
I thought it was a nice little movie though not one to which I can readily relate. There were some arresting JM moments which I define as ones where I rewound to watch more than once. The scene where he comes back drunk to the apartment to find his former fiancé (who btw we never saw return his ring) packing her things. For the most part though if this movie had been my only exposure to him I would probably not have looked twice. It really is all about Spike. And he looked so little! Do you know that it was only fairly recently that I realized or maybe admitted to myself that he is not tall. Talk about the power of Denial, for the longest time I thought it strange that all the other male actors were such giants. Such is the power and the presence of Spike.
Also noted was that here yet again is JM playing the perfect boyfriend and getting dumped by the object of his love and desire (shaking her head in disbelief).

My vote is to move after we hit 500 posts (unless we're in the middle of a scintillating debate and moving which just decimate the discussion).
Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to part 15 we go. Da-dum, da-dum, da-dum, hi-ho, hi-ho, hi-ho... (imagine me singing extremely off-key)

There's a new fic up at allaboutspike: www.allaboutspike.com/fic.html?id=423 by Gwenyth Rhys. It's presented in the form of an essay. If you like it I suggest we make "Lydia Sothesby" an honorary Scubie. (And maybe so inform Ms. Rhys.)

Have we ever actually heard the Powers That Be mentioned on Buffy? I have been thinking about the FE's speech to Willow at the end of CWDP and something has been bothering me.
Fact is, the whole "good and evil, balancing the scales" thing? I'm over it. I'm done with the mortal coil. But, believe me, I'm going for a big finish.
Even after looking at the script, I'm not sure whether the FE meant that he/she/it was the one balancing the scales or not. If so, then why role do the PTB play? If not, then why the FE even mention it and how could he/she/it suddenly have the power to mess with that balance?
The more I thought about it, the more confused I got. Then, I realized I may adding in logic that doesn't apply to the Buffyverse. So, I've tried to find a mention about the PTB in Buffy episodes but have yet to find one. Before dismissing them in my thought process, I thought I'd ask if any of you remember them being mentioned.
Thanks!

Sorry, the indented quote ("Fact is...") should have quotation marks around it.

But I don't WANNA move...all my friends live here!
*L* We've all had this discussion before.
The correct anwer is: 400-500 posts or when we slide down the board more than 6-7 spots.
I am pretty sure this is what we agreed to way back in part 8 or 9 or something. Or maybe it was just what I suggested and since it made so much sense, I jsut assumed it is what we agreed on it. Hmmm. I find myself doing that every so often. I put it down to hanging around with a bunch of women all the time *G*
*raises shields and turtles his neck at the almost guarranteed onslaught of outraged "Double Exers"
You know how come we say the male has a "Y" chromosome? 'Cause, in regards to women, we are always just kinda left in that perpetual state of wondering "But...but...but...WHY?"
Vlad, who wants on his tombstone, "But, all things considered, he tried."

Rae, I'm sure someone else is going to know if they are actually mention BY NAME, but their existence is at least implied on at least two occassions. First, when Whistler comes to Angel, in "Becoming, Part I" and takes him to see Buffy to inspire him to aid Buffy. Famous quote:
Whistler: "Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come, you can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are."
Then in "Becoming, Part 2" Buffy meets Whistler prior to staking Angel and they say:
Buffy: You don't have anything useful to tell me, do you? What are you, just some immortal demon sent down to even the score between good and evil? Whistler: Wow. Good guess. Buffy: Well, why don't you try getting off your immortal ass and fighting evil once in a while? 'Cause I'm sick and tired of doing it myself. Whistler: In the end, you're always by yourself. You're all you've got. That's the point.
I didn't go to a script site, just used quotes from Buffyguide.com, so I don't know if the PTB are actually mentioned. I don't think they are in the exchange with Buffy.
These quotes of course are going to apply to almost anything, but apply well to the current situation.

Vlad, Vlad, Vlad...how you amuse me so! What on earth would we ever done without your wit (and techopagan skills)? I got a great big guffaw (that's right, it was a guffaw!) out of your post! So now that my co-workers know I'm not really working on that damn discovery, I'm just waiting on the boss (or the Big Bad as I like to call him) to find out. Oh well. Just wanted to tell you your post made by day, Vlad. -L Edited By Lee Hollins at 4/1/2003 1:16:00 PM.

I was just wondering if I did break the board or scared anyone away since it's been like 3 1/2 hours since anyone's posted over here? Did we move and I just missed it? Did I make everyone run away and hide? Just kidding.
Hellooooo...is there anyone out there? Hey, reminds me of a song in my CD player - "Harder to Breathe" by Maroon 5. Anyone heard of them? Good CD, highly recommend it.
Must get back to work- damnit! Sometimes I hate my job. OK, not really - I absolutely love my job, it's just frustrating when my work gets in the way of this board. And I'm being totally serious. I hate when there is a new episode and I can't post because of some stupid work assignment.
Well, I think that's enough random thoughts for one post, don't you think? I mean, if you want more, I got 'em - random thoughts that make absolutely no sense, random thoughts that kind of make sense, and so on. Ohmigod, I can't even end this post without going off on a tangent. HELP ME!!!
