Congratulations Nan, on the overwhelmingly enthusiastic positive feedback you've received thus far for Old Bones, including some from other respected fanfic authors, on the All About Spike website. I've just been over there reading through it and I am very happy for you. It was also gratifying to read how so many others share my disappointment at the absence of attention to Spike and Dawn's relationship on the show this season and their great satisfaction at your handling of it. I intend to read the story again all the way through without the interruption between the chapters which was how I originally experienced it so that I can better appreciate the flow. Again, congratulations. I encourage everyone to go over to All About Spike and check out the praise being heaped upon our Nan by happy, satisfied readers. deborah

I agree that Spike wouldn't want to be human without his strength - or at least, I wouldn't want him human without his strength. I'm hoping for some sort of amalgam of human/vampire - something that lets him be strong and able to kick ass, but also lets him get that shanshu reward, for the fun of his reaction and the fun of Angel's. And the story possibilities.

Rae said:It's not quite as nice as Vlad's scythe or as fancy as Wesle..err Dave's retracting arm stakes/weapons but it works. Though, now that you mention the holy water, I might start wearing overalls so I can carry it some bottles of it around with me. Rae, that is such a fun image you just gave me! I'm going to enoy thinking of you guys moving around in the shadowy tunnels of our bright new posting board, slaying errors and killing demon 'trolls' with your shiny new weapons...

Wow...I think that author should get an honorary 'Soulful Spike Society' membership pin. I'd also love it if we could get permission to have that article on our website, cause, I loved it. I do kinda think Angel is better than she paints him, though, and I wince to think of the increased animosity toward Spike some people will have - those who are already feeling threatened and disgruntled by having the 'Shiny New Blonde Thing' come live in Angel's town. (Think how some of us felt at first just learning that Angel would VISIT Sunnydale...) But as a Spikecentric gal....gotta love it.

Why, thank you, Deborah! The feedback has been an enormous treat for me--almost equal to the satisfaction of getting back into fiction mode after so long. And believe me, that is considerable! In Spike's formulation, writing fiction is what I am *for,* so protracted periods without it are really debilitating, disruptive, and confusing. As soon as I get my last archive thread spooled up, I'll jump right back to the beginning of Enemy of My Enemy, most of which has been not only singing to me but pounding upon me with heavy impatience to get itself written down. And the beauty of Newboard (among many) is that I can post each new section there myself, and anybody who wants to read and comment on it can do so. Onward and upward! Nan

I have it, Patti. I'll code it for HTML and post it later tonight. O Moderators, there's no problem posting stuff like this ourselves/myself if we don't need help in formatting it, is there? Nan

If there's one thing we know about Spike, it's that he's a serious serial monogomist. He ALWAYS has some woman in his life he's trying to come to terms with--typically, a VERY difficult one. So I know there's been speculation on older women, etc., for AtS to balance out all the testosterone.... But if Spike is no longer pining for Buffy (as I think likely), he's all set to be hit between the eyes (or wherever) BLAM by somebody else who will knock him sidewise. Because that's who he is, and that's what he does. His love for Dru was genuine, and eventually over, although he pursued her beyond reason even after she'd repeatedly dumped him and still misses her from time to time, I'm certain. His love for Buffy was likewise complete and sincere, and more complex. And he'll bang against that wall a few more times before he's done with it, I imagine. But Spike is either about what's now or what's next. And WHAT ON EARTH is Joss gonna concoct to be Spike's new ultimate passion, if he's already "been there, done that, got the t-shirt and the tan" with the Slayer? A Vulcan? Miss Electricity? It's gonna have to be somebody AWESOME (or else a mean-nothing throwaway like Harmony) to get Spike's full attention. I'm beginning to look forward to that aspect a bit myself. Anybody else want to join me in a bit of an anticipatory drool over Spike goin' ga ga over a new gal? I bet you one thing: it ain't Fred! Nan

Hmmm. While reading the article, I remembered some of the incongruities of the "who sired who". The article states that Darla sired Angelus, and Angelus sired Dru. Then later, it states that Drusilla is DARLA'S sire. This kind of reminds me of going back in time to become your own grandfather. Rhonda

Vlad, or whoever is knowledgeable about all the characteristics of Newboard, I found that there was a 10,000 character limit on any individual post when I put the Buzz article there. I had to divide it into 6 parts. Is there any way around this, or should we just plan in future to put longer pieces on the website rather than the board? Advise, please, because I was contemplating putting fiction chapters there for comment, and they're BOUND to be a good bit larger than 10,000 characters. Nan

Thanks so much for the kind words. It's actually kind of sad. When Patti mentioned she enjoyed Chapter Eight I had to go back and read it. I couldn't remember what I'd done. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it. Chapters 12 and 13 will be coming soon. I've been devoting the majority of my time to writing rather than posting. I have a few more posts I want to do, so....thanks, as always, for reading. I have some twists coming up. Well...I hope they're twists. What fun is a story without some surprises?
