For me, an inadmissable question to ask an author. But she DOES like beginnings and middles more than endings, obviously. She's taken flak on not proceeding with As the Romans Do, replied furiously, and no more has been done on it to date. I don't know if she'll finish her WIPs--she's able; I just don't know if she's willing. Only time will tell on this one, I think. And yes, she's posting new fic and other things on her LJ. Here's the URL of her Memories section, where new fic and WIPs are archived: www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=theoharaNan, she's on dialup and doing home care for a dying grandparent, so it's not just that she's not good at finishing WIPs- that's part of it, no doubt (which puts her in a pile with about 80% of the people I'm reading at the moment) but I think it's safe to cut her some slack right now. Julia, given that way more people are not finishing stuff because of angst...

Not great, but given the dirth of fic this week, it's a lot better than nothing. Visciouswishes, Buffy/Gunn post-NFA, R? barely, schmoop and mention of broody vampires: www.livejournal.com/users/viciouswishes/360564.htmlJulia, desperate times demand desperate remedies

Julia, given that way more people are not finishing stuff because of angst... I had read a bit about her "Evil Grandma" but didn't read the circumstances. Thanks for clarifying her situation for me. I allot her all the slack she could possibly want. She's not getting paid for this--it's entirely voluntary. She is obligated to no one to write at all, much less write systematically. The fact remains that she starts 2-3 new fics (and sometimes finishes one) rather than develop or complete the fics she burst upon the scene with. So that tendency seems evident to me.

I'm really glad, at this point, that she's writing one-shots; being stuck at a difficult point in a long story myself I suspect learning to finish things is good practice. Julia, much more tolerant of unfinished WIPs now that I've got a scene I can't get out of.

It's been a slow and low quality few days, but Liz Marcs has ended the week on an up note with one of the scariest Buffyverse fics I've ever read: a long visit through the mind of Tony Harris. Starts preseries, goes well post Chosen, and answers some questions left open after Hells Bells: www.livejournal.com/users/liz_marcs/65209.htmlPG-13 for human stupidity. Julia, really, it'll make you glad you've never had to meet him in person

www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=st_salieri&keyword=Fic:+The+Use+of+Memory&filter=allThe above link will take you to the completed fic called "The Use of Memory", by st_salieri. I just found it today when I saw a rec for it in Fer123's LJ, and I've been rivited to it since I started reading. So far I'm only through Chapter 4, but it's enough to know I've hit on a good thing that should be passed on to my fellow aficionados. It begins at the end of TGIQ, but Buffy discovers Spike and Angel are in Rome before they leave the city. After reading Spike and Buffy's emotionally charged, first exchange, which airs many but not all of their issues, resolves none, and doesn't end in Spuffy schmoop, I had to stop and rec it here. Good voices and dialog, and the author has a respectable command of the complexities of their relationship and their natures. I'm looking forward to reading more. deborah

I also found this fic through fer1213's LJ. I've read up to Chapter 5 so far. Excellent.

Strangely enough, I was sure I had recommended this fic back before Christmas, and now cannot find that post. I wonder if it was the strange blank post I deleted when cleaning up my fic recs when I should have been writing?
In any case, it's very good, although no more satisfying then AtS at the end, as the end is identical with canon.
Julia, also not writing now, hmmmm

I reccommended the first story in this series, "Tumbleweeds", when it was a birthday fic for Lori; the secod two are out of order in Memories but we can all count to two, no? Giles, Anya, a Post-Chosen flight from the past, by Kimmerwoman. PG-1. "Viticulture" www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=kimmerwoman&filter=ownJulia, nice fluffy start to the day, only one life-or-death encounter

Bouncing around from old recs to comments threads to ljs I don't usually read, this morning, looped me back to redbrickrose, who wrote a post NFA sort of S/A fic mentioned in the Slash recs thread. This is Gen cost of AtS, PG-13, written as a commentary on "Reprise" but extending to NFA: www.livejournal.com/community/ats_endofdays/17499.htmlJulia, complex, compelling, but not comforting

Annaross has begun a new post-Chosen fic--only one substantial chapter posted at this point, but VERY readable and intriguing. It's called "Vampire Walk." It goes AU after Chosen and is set about 3 years later. Buffy has chosen Angel, who shows up stalking Spike in London (Spike does walking tours for tourists and has ties to the new Council) belligerantly demanding where Buffy is.... www.livejournal.com/users/anaross/17745.html?view=231249#t231249
